you don’t have to different people inside of you

the way you act and the imaginary “who you are” are not battling inside you

your actions reflect who you are.

and if your mental illness affects the way you act then you need to take that into account when you think about who you are as a person. if your mental illness “makes you do things” then that’s who you are. like if you have anxiety about hanging out with people and so you cancel a lot; you are flakey. you’re not a non flakey person who has anxiety that makes them seem flakey.

and everyone has different standards on what makes someone a bad person so remember that when people are giving you shit for being shitty. but also remember that when people are giving you shit for being shitty, maybe you are being shitty and it’s affecting people around you negatively.

lastly everyone has a reason why they do the shitty things they do and just because you don’t understand their reasons doesn’t mean that they’re reasons aren’t understandable (you don’t know everything). so love people while you have them in your life even if they do shitty things.

The implication that mental illness is immutable and therefore a core part of your identity is just simply untrue. It's like telling someone with cancer "well no point in treating your cancer, this is just who you are now. Your identity is now just someone with cancer."
