Trevor Philips and Jimmy Hopkins share a mom.
I can safely say that the number of people who follow me who care about either GTA V or Bully is a resounding none. But that's not gonna stop me from getting on some headass shit about Bully and GTA V.
So on the top is Trevor Philips mom. On the bottom is Jimmy Hopkins mom.
One definitely looks like an aged up version of the other. Similar nose, same jawline, same taste in cheetah print. Jimmy's mom has jowel lines in the same place that Trevor's mom does. You could argue the hair is different, but as someone whose mom went grey very very early in life; to me Trevor's moms hair just looks like red dye trying to cover greys, whereas Jimmy's mom looks like a natural reddish brunette.
It's established that Trevor and Jimmy both had a near endless lineup of stepdads. It's also established by Jimmy that his mom never stays with one guy for long. In fact the reason he's getting dropped at Bullworth is because his mom is going on her Honeymoon with her brand new husband. In all that time between new husbands I don't think it would be outrageous that their mother would have multiple kids. Trevor actually establishes that he has at least one known brother, Ryan. He claims he "grew up in five states, two countries", in "fourteen different homes", "three care homes", "two correctional facilities", with "eight fathers", and "one beautiful, damaged flower of a mother."
The timeline works out well too. Trevor says in GTA V that he got kicked out by his mother/ran away from home when he was young, mid to late teens. He tried making it in the Canadian Air Force but was kicked out due to being psychologically unstable. He doesn't mention returning to his mother in that time, but does mention getting picked up by Michael and started to run with him.
Bully takes place in 2006, when Jimmy is 15 years old, Trevor would've been about 38-39 years old. The incident up in North Yankton took place in '04, so Trevor would've been well on the run by the time Jimmy ends up at Bullworth. GTA V takes place in 2013, Jimmy would've been 22. It's perfectly plausible for them to have been siblings even so far apart. It's also interesting to note that Bullworth seems to be up in the New England area of the US, close to the US/Canadian border.
You might be asking then what about her age. Jimmy's mom still looks relatively young in the one shot we see of her, maybe early to mid 40s.
To that I say, Trevor's mom doesn't look too far off from him in age. Trevor is about 46-49 years old. In the mission where you see his mom, she looks to be about 20 odd years older than him, maybe late 50s early 60s. It's not at all out of the realm of possibility that Trevor's mother had him very early, maybe even a teen pregnancy, and had Jimmy some amount of time later by the time Trevor was an adult.
Trevor and Jimmy have very similar affects concerning their mothers. In the one scene we see with both their mothers, their mothers are incredibly dismissive, even verbally abusive with them. They also both crave their moms approval in some weird way. Trevor says he'll steal a truck full of meds for his mom for her approval, Jimmy beats the shit out of Gary for even insinuating his mom is a sex worker. Trevor gets emotional thinking about his mother, Michael even says that Trevor gets angry if you bring up his mom. If you leave Jimmy idle for a while, he typically starts wondering how his mom is doing.
That's to say nothing of their behavioral similarities. I'm not saying Jimmy is a psychopathic cannibal who shoots meth into his dick, or even that he has the same rage issues that Trevor has. What I am saying is that they're both on a short fuse, a reaction to the abusive environment that they grew up in. They're both irritable, short tempered, and solve their problems primarily with violence. Jimmy ends up at Bullworth because he's been expelled from every other school up to that point for behavioral issues. Starting fights, bullying. Trevor says he dropped out of school for much the same.
So my theory is that Trevors mom gave birth to Trevor and his brother Ryan in 1967 around the Canadian-American border region as a teen. Her only interest in her children is passing, and potentially even as a lightning rod for her abuse. By the time Trevor had dropped out of school, his brother Ryan was already deceased. Her only kid went off to the Canadian Air Force and she moved on.
After Trevor left, she shacked up with several men in the intervening years. If we go by popular theory that Trevor is around 46-49 in GTA V, then she was probably pregnant with Jimmy when Trevor was about 24 years old in 1991 at the age of 39. Whether or not she was in contact with Trevor or told him about Jimmy is unknown.
After having Jimmy, he himself goes through a spate of step-dads. She's on her fifth marriage by the time Bully begins. Of course Jimmy wouldn't know, and even if he did, wouldn't count the eight step-parents prior to his conception. After having seen Jimmy act so similarly to her eldest son, she would've been ready to get rid of him, just like when she put Trevor into care homes to get rid of him.
So she drops Jimmy off at Bullworth just like she used to do with Trevor to go on her honeymoon with her newest husband. It's implied she doesn't come pick Jimmy up from Bullworth after the year is over. Trevor claims his mom had gone to jail in GTA V. So perhaps she didn't pick Jimmy up because she had been arrested before she could. She reached out to Trevor to tell him and/or ask for his help, reaching out to her oldest son to keep the truth from her youngest.
What happens after that is largely unknown. It's implied she got out of jail at some point, but when and if she got back in contact with her kids is unknown. It's interesting to note that Dan Houser said of Jimmy that he didn't think he was cut out to be a GTA protagonist. He always saw Jimmy as a bad teenager but a good adult. So there's a decent chance that Jimmy never got back in contact with his mom, and forged his own path in life.
Maybe he does know about Trevor, maybe he doesn't. Maybe Trevor knows about his youngest brother, but there's a decent chance he doesn't.
Either way, I fully believe they're related. But that's just a theory. A GAME THEORY. Thanks for watching.
