Rage baiting is so real because why is there a tik tok claiming with their full chest that people who are animal lovers are narcissistic...
Some of the claims include (and I'm paraphrasing here, so don't come for me please and thank you):
"Pets cannot have or form opinions. They cannot speak for themselves."
"They are a source of unconditional love, an endless supply for narcissists."
"People who love animals are misanthropes. So they will put an animal above a human being always."
Y'all realize pets and animals alike can feel and have their own personalities right? It's been proven with nature documentaries and stuff that many kinds of animals can and do have a range of emotions and have different personalities. We treat animals like they are just mindless beings when many are sentient in their own right. You can tell how an animal feels by looking at their body language a lot of the time. So, if an animal does not like you, especially a cat, if you pay attention, you will see and know.
It's also true many abusive, neglectful, narcissistic people have pets. But not everyone who has a pet is one. I thought this was common sense.
I'm literally about to dump the rest of my savings on my sixteen year old cat's dental surgery because I love him so much, I'd do anything if it meant he doesn't suffer. As long as my cat is comfortable and not in pain, that is all I can ask for. He was my childhood pet, and he gave me something my parents or other adults around me couldn't: unconditional love and presence. I treasure my cat so so much because of it and will do anything to make sure he is happy, healthy, and not in any kind of pain. That is the least I can do.
And yes, I would say I am a misanthrope in many ways. But it didn't just appear overnight. I deep down love humanity so much. I just hate how I, and millions alike, are treated by other humans and how the world is designed. I am less than because I am a woman, because I am sensitive, because I'm autistic, and etc, in the eyes of many humans. I do no harm, I don't treat others badly. I am kind, I am understanding, I try my best. But I am trampled on because I am a little different...because I say or do something that is a little awkward. Because of how I present myself. And god forbid I ramble a little too long about how much I love space.
Humans have the power and capacity to be and do so much. We can make the world however we want, and yet we chose *gestures vaguely to everything in human history.* All our problems are man made, and it affects not just us, but animals at large. I don't think any animal on Earth has caused as much global damage as we have.
