I have a classmate who is non-binary and I'm actually worried about talking to them because I'm afraid of accidentally upsetting or making them uncomfortable :(

Anon, it's important to remember that NB people are just that: people. They want people to talk to them and hang with them and share things with them like everyone else, in as much as their personal preference for talking with people stands. You should really make that effort if you want to talk to them!

Look at it this way. What do you think would upset your classmate more: you making a mistake sometime, or you feeling like they're not worth the effort of interacting with?

It's possible that you might misgender them sometime, or say the wrong thing...and that is okay! I literally just got pronouns wrong for the human magician mentioned in the UT anniversary stream! I've screwed up sometimes talking about NB people who are my friends and coworkers!

All of us are raised since birth in a binary system, and most people have spent literal decades marinating it, so of course you'll have to think through gendering people correctly outside of that binary a little more. Like any new knowledge or skill, it just takes practice! But if you're too afraid to make a mistake, you'll never practice, so you'll never get better. You gotta let go of that fear! You could be missing out on a neat person to talk to, or even a potential friend! It's worth the effort.

happy tenth anniversary, undertale.

i started playing undertale in january of this year under a recommendation from my ex boyfriend. we sat in a discord call, watching me play it, watching me reactions in real time. i might have been spoiled many times before, but the fun of it was trying to figure out how all of the things connected.

i played pacifist, because i never got to hear anything but pacifist/genocide. oh well. still led to one of the best games i've ever played.

i played deltarune soon after that. it was still just chapters 1 and 2 at the time. they were magical, and i could tell there was so much work put into them that undertale, while good, didn't even have. this was toby's dream project and i could tell it.

chapters 3 and 4 came out in june. i was on a vacation at a theme park and couldn't play them immediately. i dodged spoilers, had a fun time at the park, failed to dodge spoilers, and came out knowing of a few things: the knight fight, the gerson fight, and raise up your bat being the major ones.

i played through the chapters. it was so fun. i loved every second of it.

i may not have been playing undertale and deltarune for even more than one year. but to all of the people affected by the game over the past 10 years, happy anniversary.

relationships may fade, but memories live on.

for those who don’t remember, “mole interest” was an experiment I did 2 years ago because I wanted to test what causes tags to go trending on tumblr. My hypothesis was that all it takes is one (1) post blowing up in an established tag to make the entire tag trend.

I had randomly generated 2 words, which is where “mole interest” came from. I failed to consider that by generating a new tag, it wouldn’t have had enough posts already in it to prove what I now call “the mole interest effect”.

But now it does.

In 2023, we said “fuck it” a la mythbusters and ended up doing whatever it took to get #mole interest to trend. And it did. And it happened to be September 11th that day, and we managed to get #mole interest to trend ABOVE #9/11.

So, in the name of science, I ask you to reblog just this post. Let’s put the mole interest effect to the test.
