Max's ECHO beeps innocently, letting him know he's got a message. When he opens it, it's probably not anything he was expecting.
[text] MAX UR CRASY EX GURFREN IS TRYNG TO KIL ME!!1!
The Thing [closed RP]
All his backing away and dodging was indeed pissing Veronica off, it didn't help seeing the Echo in his hand. "No ones going to save you bitch, all they're gonna do is hear you scream." Red hair falling loose from the ponytail as she swung again just as the ebony man fell backwards.
Good thing he was quick, because she didn't waste any time swinging downward with the hunk of metal. Sharp edge dug into the dirt and stone as she all but snarled for the miss. "Come on the least you can do is fight like a girl!" Words said before his attack catches her in the gut and knocking the wind out, sending the angry red head into a coughing fit as she picked up the blade. "That.. all you got?" Sputtered out in between coughs as she readied another swing.
He didn't have any time to celebrate his short victory, taking the couple of seconds to furiously type out a message and send it before she tried to take his head off with another swing of that monster of a sword. It wasn't the best message he'd ever typed, hurried and misspelled but it got the point across and that was all that mattered.
Unfortunately that meant he wasn't ready to dodge her next attack, focused as he'd been on getting that message sent out. Already caught on the ground against the shelf, he only had one direction to roll away in and that much was completely obvious. She wasn't as debilitated by his kick as he would have liked and had uncanny aim with that hunk of metal.
It tore into his side and across his back as he tried to get away, not the worst injury he'd ever suffered but damn near close. It also pulled a yelp out of him and made breathing way more painful then it should be and for the moment he spent thinking about it he was pretty sure she'd dragged the edge across his ribs. Wouldn't be surprised.
"Fuck-! I didn't do anything!" He yelled, dragging himself backward on the floor as rapidly as he could with one hand clutching the new injury. If Morrie didn't get her ass down here in the next few minutes he was as good as dead.

She didn’t even notice the bug running off or he might have ended up squished on the corner of her blade, instead her venom was full focused on the man that had taken Max from her. There was no chance given for him to breathe as again she swung, this time knocking off a few things from a nearby shelf scattering them on the floor causing a ruckus. "I’ll show you vindictive drunk bitch!" Pressing her attack and trying to get him to fall, trip, anything to make him any weaker than he already was. She hadn’t even noticed that her first swing had done anything to him, figuring herself to have missed. Before this was over he was going to be hurting as much as she was, leave him bleeding on the floor without anyone coming to his aid. This certainly wasn’t about confronting Max, not anymore. Now that she had the person who was getting what she thought should have been hers, it was all about revenge. “Fucking White Knight will probably save your ass. Come swooping up in here all pissed and shit. Let’s see if we can’t get you ready. Gotta save his princess after all.” Taking another wild swing sending more items scattering in the small space.
Lucky for Mitch that Avery was a better target at the moment otherwise he wouldn't have a good way to call for help. It was a little hard to dial on his ECHO while trying to keep out of reach of the woman's blade, ducking the first swing and then having to dodge flying junk from the shelf.
Seeing as she was going to keep coming after him whether he tried to defend himself - though really all he'd done was piss her off more - or not he didn't bother anymore and focused on keeping away from the sharp hunk of metal swinging at him. Unfortunately, in order to do so he had to focus his entire attention on her and said metal chunk, which meant that he couldn't watch where he was stepping.
All it took was one misstep on a bit of scrap and he was down on his back, air driven out of his lungs. He rolled away on instinct in the hopes that she wouldn't manage to hit him again while he was down but got caught up against one of the shelves. In desperation he kicks out to try to keep her at bay and fumbles for his ECHO to call for someone, anyone, to help him.

"I’m not dr-" She was about to go off on a tirade about not being drunk, how she had only had a few shots, and how it didn’t matter one damn bit of difference even if she was. If she wanted to see Max then she had the right to. But that all changed as soon she realized he had uttered the words my Max. Half turned away again she spun around with a look of exasperation and surprise quickly followed by a look of sheer utter anger. ”You? You’re the piece of shit that made him leave?” It had nothing to do with him being another guy and everything to do with jealousy. “He tells me how special I am, and how he loves me.” Sniffing a bit as the strap to her blade is released, the large piece of metal taken in hand. “Only to fucking vanish on me for days as soon as your chocolate ass swings his way.” All the hurt feelings of being abandoned and the lies Max had told her brimming to the surface. “You don’t deserve him. You don’t need him. Not like I do!” It was a wild swing, aimed at him but not really aiming at all. An upward slash of the large weapon as she yelled out in anger and pain. She didn’t want him dead, but she did want him to pay.
He was backing away again, realizing that what he'd gone and said was probably the worst thing he could have managed, especially in her current mindset of violence. Avery wasn't a good fighter on the best days and being chased by a lady with a giant chunk of metal definitely didn't qualify as a 'best day'.
"Hey hey, I didn't make him do anything! I didn't even know you existed until days after you pretty much broke his heart!" He scowled even as he backed away from her. There was no way he wasn't going to at least attempt to defend himself, even if it was just in words. "Who are you to say I don't need or deserve him? Right now all I see is a vindictive, drunk bitch pissy cause she didn't get what she wanted."
Definitely not the right thing to say and he yelped as she swung the hunk of metal that was apparently her weapon at him, barely jumping back enough to avoid getting sliced up. As it was he came out with a cut across his chest, shallow but stinging every time he moved. A shouted command had Mitch scurrying off as fast as his little legs could carry him, back to the camp for some kind of assistance while Avery kept backing away in the hopes of finding something to keep between the two of them as cover.

Again their faces mirrored, moving around the dropped scrap and continuing to force her presence within his personal space. Who the fuck was this guy? And since when did bandits become so damn loyal? It was infuriating and out of reflex to what could be a possible threat a hand tightened around the main strap that held the blade at her back. One quick release and swing would leave the dark skinned man bleeding all over Ellie’s floor. “You can go fuck off. You and your camp.” Waving her free hand at him wildly. “Not like I’m gonna kill him or anything. Shit, he owes me an explanation on treating me like a whore.” Actually stepping back and continuing her rant hand continuing to wave about as she spoke. “Fucker said he loved me. Even let the bastard screw whoever he wanted. Then..then one day he just poof gone.” Turning back and stalking over to him again, the finger back in his face. “And you’re telling me to fuck off?” Digging in her pocket she threw a wad of cash at him, as if it would make him change his mind to take her to see Max. “There’s your fucking money and your explanation. Now, Where. Is. He?”
He didn't appreciate some angry chick getting all in his personal space, smelling of booze and dirt and sweat and Pandora in general. He was tempted to just walk away and tell Morrie there was a possible threat but then he might be followed back to camp and whoever she was could find and possibly hurt Max. There was no way he was going to let that happen.
"You can fuck off. My camp isn't open to angry armed women looking to hurt it's members. You want to talk to him, call him on the ECHO. Talk to him that way. I'm not leading you to him." It was a relief when she stepped back a bit to rant but the relief was short lived. As she spoke, it rather quickly became apparent who she was and there was a mixture of surprise, regret, and a creeping bit of fear in his expression when she turned back to him. Avery may be quite happily gay but he knew what slighted women were rumored to be like and he was beginning to suspect that she would not only hurt Max but anyone in her way.
"That's not something you work out while drunk and armed." He said, voice considerably less defensive and softer, cajoling. "Look, just wait until you're sober again and call him. He's been torn up about that, he'll want to try to work things out with you if you give him half a chance." The highly defensive posture was dropped and he quietly fiddled with his ECHO behind his back. A short step backward was also taken in case she decided she'd had enough of him.
"I'm sorry about that. But he's taken now and that's not going to change any time soon. I'm not going to take you to him, I won't let you hurt my Max any more then you already did." The last part slipped out before he'd quite realized he'd said it but he realized his mistake almost the same second he made it. He blinked and, as much as it was possible, paled. Oh shit he was in for it now.

Maybe it was fortunate that Max had left out details of Avery when he and Veronica had their break up. If she had known this was the guy that had basically turned her life upside down there wasn’t anything that would have really stopped her from simply attacking him right then and there without so much as a warning. As it was she only thought herself to be speaking with some random bandit, giving herself away and her intentions. Much like his tone and shifting attitude, so to did her’s. Green eyes narrowing at him suspiciously. The darker man knew Max, and further more knew where he was hiding away. And to her altered state of mind, hiding from her specifically. Scoffing, she moved to knock the metal from his arms getting all the more in his space cheeks already turning a bit red. A finger pointed at his face she was all but spitting mad. “You’ve been hiding him. What’d that coward do? Pay you to stay in your camp? He thinks it’s safe all tucked away. Out of sight out of mind. Right? RIGHT?!” Going and giving him a shove before the finger was pointing at him again. “Well I’ll pay you three times whatever he’s paying if you take me to him right now.” It was hard to tell if she was threatening or trying to bribe.
He scowled then, an expression he hadn't found himself wearing in a long time. Mitch squealed indignantly and dodged the material falling from Avery's arms, retreating to a few feet away uncertainly. The man himself stood his ground, arms crossing and feet planted. Really he was just hoping that the woman wasn't planning on using those weapons to try to force information out of him. He was armed with an SMG but if she attacked him his best chance was to book it out of there.
"Max is not hiding from anyone, lady. And kindly back the fuck off." He only stepped backward a little bit when she pushed him, his scowl deepening. "He's right where he wants to be, and paying me a million bucks isn't going to get me to take you there. Besides, if you go to the camp they'll likely just kill you."
He shrugged nonchalantly but that one was a bluff; Morrie would probably welcome another badass woman into the camp's borders if she just walked in. Granted, with the way this woman was acting Morrie wouldn't let her stay long, she had a pretty good sense of who was trust worthy and who wasn't after all. She wasn't about to let someone who was threatening one of hers, even Max, into her camp.

Running into someone set Veronica stumbling back herself, catching herself on a table as the blade strapped to her back clanged against it. The smell of alcohol was on her no doubt as she stood up and walked back to the darker man giving her neck a somewhat awkward scratch. But it was the smaller spiderant that made her pause, looking down at the little bug giving her stained dirty boots a good checking out. She was half tempted to just nudge it out of the way but then it struck her. Head shooting back up to the heavily loaded man she stepped over the spiderant and close to him, offering out a hand to help stabilize whatever scrap he had managed to find in Ellie’s rather extensive collection. “Your from that bandit clan?” No response to his rather polite apology as she glanced him up and down looking for something, anything, a little more tell tell than some random little spiderant trailing around. "I’m looking for a guy named Max. Red head, metal arm, tall and stupid looking?" Words slurring here and there hinting further at her inebriated state. Tone none to appealing or happy. "He owes me. BIG time."
He blinked at her rather abrupt question, shifting his load so he could examine her more closely. Armed, but not as much as a normal bandit would be and, while he did smell alcohol on her she wasn't acting completely drunk. She didn't seem like the usual riff raff that usually populated the bandit camps.
But he also didn't recognize her from Havok's camp. Why would she be looking for his camp?
The answer to that came without him having to ask about it, information willingly volunteered. He frowned then, brows drawing together, and called Mitch back to him. The little antling was happy enough to trot back to his master as Avery shifted a little uneasily.
"Why would you be looking for Max? He hasn't had time to go out and cause anyone trouble lately. So what do you want him for?" His tone had gone from polite and apologetic to hard and suspicious, even defensive. If this woman wanted to hurt Max he wasn't going to stand for that.

Months had gone by and V had pretty much gotten herself together from the entire incident with Max. She wasn’t ready to patch things up, not by a long shot, but the red head was ready to finally confront him in a more or less civilized manner. At least that was the plan when she got up that morning in Sanctuary. A few shots of liquid courage and that want to resolve things brought up the underlying jealousy for the unnamed and unknown other to rise to the surface. And she was tired of denying herself the person she still thought she loved. Blade on her back and still borrowed guns on her hips she was off to the fast travel typing in the coordinates to Ellie’s garage vaguely remembering that Max was somewhere in another bandit camp somewhere in the area. Of course where exactly was still up in the air, but Veronica figured asking the resident mechanic would get her all the answers she needed. If not, she’d roam the Dust for all eternity if she had to. Whatever it took to give Max a piece of her mind. In a flurry of blue squares she was gone arriving with the familiar sound of work being done somewhere in the shop.
Avery hadn't been out of the camp for a good while now, considering Max had been spending most of his time in the Dust with him instead of at his own home. Not that he minded, the Second was kept busy with helping run the Spider Rider's camp and organizing things and basically doing everything that Morrie couldn't, didn't have time for, or wasn't good at. With Max hanging out at their camp, working on upgrading and repairing things, even though both of them were busy they got to see a lot more of each other.
Today however, he was at Ellie's place for some replacement parts for his brewing setup, along with a few other supplies he intended to barter for. A usual trip, he was a frequent and repeat customer for bits and pieces so he wasn't expecting any trouble with the trip.
He'd gotten the things he needed, tiny Mitch trailing after him the whole way, and was about to head back when the Fast Travel activated and dropped a rather stunning red headed woman directly in his path so that he very nearly ran into her. As it was he tripped and almost dropped his load veering out of the way.
"Crap sorry, almost ran you over there, miss." He apologized, shifting the things he was carrying. Mitch squeaked curiously at the lady, walking right up to investigate her shoes.
When he hears the throat clear his head snaps up. “A-Ave!” Shoving the gun behind his back. “I didn’t think you were home!”
"Apparently." He huffs, fighting off the smile that wanted to break onto his face. "Lonely are you? If you're desperate enough to mess with a gun."
Look what I made
"SIR CAN I MAKE AN AUTO-STABILIZING HIGH-DAMAGE REVOLVER."
"THINK ABOUT IT SIR."
Awkward boner over a gun.
"Ahem." Crosses arms and raises an eyebrow.
HOLY SHIT
"MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX MAX LOOOOOOOOOOK!!!”
"FLYING FRYING FLAMING FISHSTUFF!!"
"DON'T YOU DARE DO THIS IN MY KITCHEN!!"
"Here I was thinking Avery was an unusual name for out here on Pandora. Guess I was mistaken."
"Don’t know what you consider unusual, but I only know uh one Avery, an’ that’s me."
"Huh?" It took a moment for Avery to realize what he meant, but when she did she stuck her tongue out partway and made a face, shaking her head, "Ewwww, gross, no. Nah, I got a call on my ECHO th’other day from some guy who meant ta call his boyfriend, but the voice activation called me instead."
She shrugged, crossing her arms again, “Guess I have heard uh ya.”
"... Yeah sounds like him. Idiot called Max Gier? Doofus." There's nothing but affection in his tone and he has a dumb smile on his face for a moment before he remembers he's talking to a child and schools the expression away.
"Anyway, that's one mystery solved."
"Here I was thinking Avery was an unusual name for out here on Pandora. Guess I was mistaken."
"Don’t know what you consider unusual, but I only know uh one Avery, an’ that’s me."
Unconsciously she mimicked his posture, folding her arms and looking up at him, “Alrigh’ so there’s two on the whole planet, I dunno if that makes it common.”
"Waaaaait," she said, pointing a finger at him suddenly, "You got a boyfriend?"
He shrugged, the corner of his lips tilting up in a smile rather then keeping the thoughtful frown he'd been wearing. "Still not a name I'm used to hearing not directed at me. Here I thought it was unique." An over-dramatic sigh heaved out of him.
Her sudden question caused his eyebrow to shoot up again in surprise and he tilts his head.
"Uhh... Yeah? Kid, you are WAY too young for me, believe me."
"Here I was thinking Avery was an unusual name for out here on Pandora. Guess I was mistaken."
"Don’t know what you consider unusual, but I only know uh one Avery, an’ that’s me."
"Well now you know two cause the other one's me." Tall a broad, the man folds his arms and regards her with a raised eyebrow, flicking his head to toss the thick pony tail of dreadlocks back over his shoulder.
(Ave) "Hey handsome, what say you and me get out of dodge for a while and find something nice to do? I've had enough of bandit camps for a while."
He was buried under a pile of blue prints and books trying to get his new eyes planned out but without Gaige around nothing was getting done. But things were starting to become increasingly difficult. He was wearing two pairs of glasses to see if it helped but it only made things worse. He was an inch away from the top as he was attempting to put some fine details on the print that was rolled out infront of him when he heard Ave’s voice.
"U-Uh-" He shot up sending a few blue prints falling to the floor. "Get away…?" He said looking over his shoulder the dual glasses sitting on the end of his nose. When he noticed they were there his hand shot up quickly and he pulled them off. "Sure…Did you uh, Have anything in mind… I could uh, Really use a break" Any excuse to postpone things.
Feeling the other mans arms around him works to alleviate the tension he was feeling in his chest. The fact he couldn’t see as well as he used to was still causing a bit of Anxiety for the Engineer.
"Oasis?" He said questioningly as he stared into his lovers golden coloured eyes. "Do you have a metric fuck-tonne of sunscreen, Cause th’ last time I went t’th’ beach with Gaige…." He sighed remembering what she had done to him. "She re-applied th’ sunscreen but in th’ shape’a a dick an I was stuck with a sunburnt dick on my torso…th’ feint lines are still there" He scoffed remembering how things had been when he had first returned to Pandora.
"I like th’ sound’a this" Wrapping his arms around Avery’s waist and holding him close. He loved it when his boyfriend spoiled him.
"What, never been down to the springs beneath the city? Not so much sun down there to burn your delicate skin." He teased, leaning forward to nibble at the ginger's neck to emphasize his point. Granted Max would probably still need a metric fuck ton of sunscreen but probably not as much as if they went to, say, Wam Bam Island. Which was another interesting idea for maybe another time.
"Comparing me to Gaige, how could you, darling? I thought you loved me." Still bent with his lips to Max's neck, he grinned. He was going to spoil the hell out of his lover and damned if anything was going to stop him from doing so.
(Ave) "Hey handsome, what say you and me get out of dodge for a while and find something nice to do? I've had enough of bandit camps for a while."
He was buried under a pile of blue prints and books trying to get his new eyes planned out but without Gaige around nothing was getting done. Ave just gave a small smile at the piles of blueprints and the glasses, walking up and wrapping his arms around Max's shoulders to pull him close enough to lean his forehead against the ginger's. He wasn't happy that Max couldn't see, couldn't do things as easily as he used to and the overwhelming need to be around all the time to keep an eye on him was hard to fight off. Smothering him wouldn't help. But taking a day to vanish and relax might.
"Thought we might go to Oasis or something. Swim around in the springs, take a nap on the shore maybe." Gently he tugged the glasses from his grip and set them on the table the blueprints were piled on. "Just you and me and paradise for a while."
