This one ended up a bit longer than my other drabbles and dialogues so it will be its own fic on AO3 :)
Let It Feel Good by sweetbabyshane
LaPointe called across the locker room after reading something on his phone. "Hey Hollzy, is it true you’ve never had alcohol?"
Shane turned with a confused look on his face. "Uh, no. You've literally seen my drink, LP. Also, not to sound like an asshole, but I’ve won three cups. I think I was drunk for a week straight after my first one."
Laughter filled the locker room. LaPointe's question had grabbed everyone's attention, mainly for how ridiculous the question sounded. They had all seen him drink at Shane and Ilya's wedding the previous summer, and Shane had a beer occasionally when they were out as a team.
Ilya was intrigued by this random line of questioning toward his husband. "Where did you hear this nonsense, LP?"
"Oh, a friend of mine got drafted to Montreal, and he got called up from the AHL recently. He said Shane is a popular topic in the locker room, but some of the stuff they have been saying didn't sound true," LaPointe explained.
"Of course," Shane sighed, not surprised that the disdain from his old team lives on. "Do you know who said it?"
LaPointe looked apologetic for even bringing it up after hearing Shane's tone. "Sounds like Comeau is running his mouth the most."
"I’ve literally done shots with him," Shane retorted, followed by a quiet snort when he heard Ilya mumble 'pathetic man' next to him.
"So, I heard another Hollander 'fact' today. This one is pretty dumb," LaPointe said as he entered the locker room before practice.
Shane sighed and looked up at the ceiling. "What is it this time?"
Ilya reached over to massage the back of Shane's neck. It has become a force of habit whenever Montreal gets brought up.
"Apparently, you refuse to hold any pets or babies."
"What the fuck?" Ilya said reflexively before Shane could even respond. "That does not even make sense. Shane is Pike's children's godfather."
Shane stared blankly for a moment as if he were so confused by hearing the ridiculous lie that he couldn't even make sense of it.
"First of all, we have Anya. And like Ilya said, I am Hayden and Jackie's kids' godfather. I babysit for them whenever I can. Also, I'm pretty sure I've held every team baby that was born while I was in Montreal."
"I think you might actually be Milo's favorite person," Bood threw in with a supportive smile. It lightened the mood a bit, but it was obvious to see that Shane was still bothered.
LaPointe nodded in agreement with Shane's frustration. "Drew said Pike literally pointed to the picture of you holding his daughters in his locker, and they still doubled down. They are so dumb."
"Fucking losers," Shane mumbled as he sat down to put on his skates. Multiple people made sounds of agreement.
Ilya suddenly whipped his head around. Shane braced himself for another Montreal rant, but he got a much different question instead.
"Why the fuck does Pike have pictures of you in his locker? You are his long-lost lover?"
"So, I've unfortunately got another one for you, Hollzy. It's actually getting sad now," LaPointe said as he loaded his bag into the bus luggage compartment.
Shane shook his head while he unloaded his and Ilya's bags from the trunk of their car. "Oh god, what now?"
LaPointe hesitated for a moment, debating whether he should wait for Ilya to get on the bus before he said it or not, but he figured Shane would tell him anyway. "They said Roz is the only person you’ve ever slept with."
Everyone braced themselves for an awkward, avoidant response since Shane still wasn't all that comfortable talking about their sex life, but he ended up surprising them.
"Ha, Ilya wishes that was true."
"Мой любимый!" Ilya called out in surprise before his face fell into a pout. The parking lot echoed with the team's laughter.
"You literally dated Rose Landry while you were with Montreal. They are fucking idiots," Hayes reasoned, patting Shane on the shoulder as he walked onto the bus.
"Yeah, can’t disagree with you there," Shane mumbled under his breath as he followed Wyatt up the steps. He felt Ilya pinch his thigh from behind, knowing it was for agreeing with the Rose comment.
After Shane and Ilya took their seats in one of the back rows, LaPointe and Holmberg walked over to continue the conversation. They both threw their arms over the seats in front of Shane and Ilya, leaning in as Holmberg said, "Hollzy, I bet bisexuals everywhere must be jealous of you."
Shane nearly choked on his water, regretting that he had taken a sip as they approached, while Ilya raised an interested brow, wanting to know where this was possibly going.
"And why is that, Bergy?" Shane asked, already amused at what the answer would be.
Holmberg shrugged as if it were obvious. "You dated Rose Landry, and now you are married to Ilya Rozanov. Plus, you look like that. It's crazy, dude."
"Okay, quit hitting on my husband and go sit down," Ilya declared firmly, using every bit of his captain voice possible. The bus filled with laughter as the rookies turned tail to jog back to their seats.
Shane leaned over as he laughed, pressing a kiss to Ilya's cheek. "It is kinda funny, isn't it?"
Ilya rolled his eyes. "Ah yes, talking about your ex-girlfriend is my favorite."
"Ты такой королева драмы," Shane cut back with a laugh. "No, I just think it's funny that those idiots in Montreal are spreading such ridiculous lies because they can't let it go. I just...I know it shouldn't feel good, but it's almost like vindication to know that they can't let it go."
"Why can't it feel good? You are too good at hockey for them to talk shit. You are too hot for them to talk shit. They have to make up lies because they are nothing without you. Let it feel good."
Shane looked at Ilya with pure adoration, breaking his typical composure to lean over for an appreciative kiss, then nodded with a deep, satisfied breath. "Let it feel good."
