Current Transfem Headcanons Meta

June and Vriska are "canon" (if you take outside confirmation to mean anything)

Jade grew up on an island so she could just be a girl without any social repercussions of being a trans girl in 2009 because all of her relationships are online. Post canon also relies on her having a dick (although a dog dick bc that's funnier or something) for the story to work.

Kanaya is isolated from all other Jadebloods, while Porrim, and the Jades from Hiveswap (including Lanque who is a trans man) are forced to tend to the mother grub in the brooding caverns. She spends her entire life trying to be the perfect Jadeblood and bring back the troll species from extinction using the matriorb. She fails. The only reasons the troll species is brought back is through a trans man giving her the egg she needed

Tavros and Eridan are personal favorites because I am a closted trans women and I relate more to characters who haven't transitioned yet

On a section in HSBC's road to redemption for Vriska Tavros has these lines where he fantasizes about being a pretty princess*. Tavros has always paradoxically been "in love" with blue fairies but his biggest dream is to fly, and his God Tier outfit is all blue I believe he never had a crush on blue fairies he just wanted to be one.

That adds a layer to his relationship with Vriska that Vriska constantly is pushing Tavros to be cooler/more like her, Vriska loathes the boy skylark class because it takes too long to get to the good parts, contrasting the fact that she's known she's trans since she was a kid versus someone like Tavros and June who never "grew out" of their eternal boyhoods represented by Tavros's links with Pupa Pan and June's depression in her childhoood home and her still living the way her father would want her too, in her eyes.

*Note after this Tavros says he was just joking and then that he should think about it more. He is dead and doesn't matter so at the end of the day I can do whatever I want with his character which to me is write him as a trans girl.

Eridan likes to wear dresses but only in private and their happiest possible life was in Beforus where Andrew theselves uses "they/them" to refer to Eri so like this one is kind of obvious. I think it's important to note that yes Eridan on pesterquest said that they weren't questioning their gender or anything but if you think a bigoted 13 year old from 2009's beliefs are set in stone than I think you have a sad life.

Another important note is that Rose has had sex with Kanaya, Jade, in Rosemary Thanksgiving, Jasprose who has a cat dick presumably and she also seduces June. So we can use her as a radar for any potential trans women in the future.

Also these 6 specific characters reframes a lot of their interactions.

-Vriska sees Tavros as a failed version of herself and pushes him to be more like her

-Vriska does the same with June literally giving her a copy of her own outfit

-Kanaya always feels kind of bad for Tavros trying to get Vriska to be nicer to him, and after their session she saws off Tavros's lower half to give him more confidence (impromptu bottom surgery?)

-Tavros tries to "save" Jade form an inventor which would make him a cool hero guy who gets the girl, him being a trans woman means that his dogshit ability to be manly is unintentionally gender affirming lmao

-Kanaya and Jade bond over being space players and the responsibility that was given to them, made ironic by the fact Space players are the ones responsible child rearing and multiple of the Space players are transfeminine and unable to bear children.

-Maybe SBURB is proding at their insecurities and triggers as it usually does with the lands (Dave's planet is all clanking and blood red, Karkat's is all blood, Terezi has visions on the sky that she cannot use, Tavros' is all sand making it hard for him to move with his wheelchair)

-Eridan kills the matriorb, Kanaya's ability to be the ultimate Jade and Mother to her species

So yeah these are the patch notes for the upcoming transfem DLC for Homestuck that will come around someday. What do you think of these headacanons? We have got to stop framing our oppression in ways that promote the idea that other people cannot relate to our struggles. Not only does it isolate comrades in the struggle, it actively diminishes recognition of other struggles--often including those even more horrific than what we are at risk of. And this happens especially between Gay and Black struggles.

"when have straight people ever had to check what states were safe for them?" Sundown towns are still a thing. Starlight tours. What states have abortion access? What states have open carry? What states have stand your ground? What states have 3-strike rules? Women, people of color, disabled people, immigrants, and more have had to be abundantly cautious where they travel to. Straight trans people have much more travel risk right now than gay cis people.

It's a new iteration of the same tired question: "imagine if straight people weren't allowed to marry" interracial marriage in the US is younger than my parents. We disgrace people of color by forgetting their history and contemporary struggles, and we abandon queer people of color, Black queer people, by segmenting their overlapping fights.

A lot of White queers have this thing about needing to be the most oppressed person in the room and can’t handle when other minority groups go through similar struggles that they think are unique to them.

It gives me the same vibe as those dystopian books that are like hey what if this awful thing that’s been happening to POC for centuries suddenly happened to white people 👀 that’d be so scary.

But when you point that out suddenly they can’t find it in themselves to feel any sense of sympathy or horror because you know it’s not white people that are suffering.

Same here with the queer community they only care about shit that affects white queers and only white queers and the amount of racism within those spaces is just wild.

Not to mention the ableism like I’ve yet to hear of a pride event that was actually accessible. Also you know god forbid you bring up that disabled people don’t have marriage equality and often have to choose between love and their own survival.

And now I’m not American but even I know about Sundown towns. You lot love to bring up Stonewall but wasn’t that started by a Black Trans Woman? Wasn’t International Asexuality Day co founded by a Black British Asexual woman?

You sit here and you pinkwash our histories and pretend we only have queer rights because of colonisation. You dismiss labels like Two Spirit that Native Americans have used for centuries the second you get called out for trying to use that label for yourselves.

You can have long nuanced discussions with these people about being out and being in the closet. But for some fucking reason they cannot fathom the fact that POC and visibly disabled people can’t just fucking hide that shit.

And if you bring up that a lot of them can and that no one would know they were queer unless they told someone cause hey that’s what being in the closest means, they get so unbelievably pissed about it.

The amount of POC queers that have said that they genuinely experience more racism from white queers than any other group should be eye opening.

on the topic of disabled characters, though, i think a LOT of artists give characters mobility aids that their character wouldn't actually benefit from using.

i'm sort of having a mild brain fog moment rn so i can't fully articulate what i'm on about, but i think a lot of able-bodied artists view things like canes and crutches as interchangeable. and they often don't know enough about the wide range of mobility aids to make an informed decision about what their character might actually use based on their disability

i also think that aids like walkers and rollators are sort of viewed as "cringe" on some level, and many people view them to be "just for old people," so many artists will opt for giving a character who has full-body pain and fatigue a cane (which, in many cases, can potentially WORSEN full-body pain) instead. and a lot of people don't realize that most wheelchair users are able to walk, so they don't consider it an option for characters with chronic pain

idk it's kind of frustrating. i've genuinely never, ever seen a character that uses a rollator before. not once. i cannot name a single one. i know of multiple ocs who are described to have full-body pain, dizziness, and fatigue that are drawn as cane users and are never shown with wheelchairs or walkers, though

it's also sort of sad? i've been diagnosed since i was twelve years old, and i only heard of rollators LAST YEAR. and that was only because i saw one irl and immediately asked what it was. i wonder how many disabled people out there don't even know it's an option solely because they're completely underrepresented online and in media

if you're a creative with a disabled oc, PLEASEEE check out this link. it's a very nice and detailed guide for telling which mobility aids suit someone's needs best. it's incredibly important to make the right choice for your character! mobility aids tell you a LOT about someone's lived experience. picking the right one will communicate to your audience #1 what your character goes through #2 that you UNDERSTAND what your character goes through!
