haiii, i saw you love films and i'm trying very hard to work on watching more! what are you favorites and which do you think are absolutely necessary for everyone to watch???
FINALLY some good questions jeez. Hii!! I’d love to give you recommendations for sure! I’ll start off by listing some of my personal faves and just give the overall gist of each one !!
• Zola: i love this movie, especially because it’s based on a viral twitter thread from like 2015. This waitress meets a girl at work, they get along really well and then suddenly she’s invited to a trip in Florida to make money dancing together, but when she gets there it’s clear she wasn’t told the full truth. It’s funny in a dark way, but the situation gradually gets tense really fast, there’s this guy involved that controls almost everything they do, so she ends up stuck in something way more serious and dangerous than she first expected !!!
• 13 going on 30: this one’s a rom-com, it’s about this 13-year-old girl who wishes she could skip ahead to adulthood already and suddenly wakes up as her 30-year-old self one morning. On the surface it’s really fun and light, but actually says a lot about growing up too quickly and losing parts of yourself along the way. I love how it balances being genuinely funny with those more emotional moments, and the romance is just really sweet without feeling forced.
• Assassination Nation : this group of teenage girls in a small town where everything spirals after this massive data leak that exposes everyone’s secrets like texts, photos, everything. It starts off kinda chaotic and messy in a fun way?? But gets really intense and dark after. i don’t see much people talking about it, but I like it because it really shows how fast people turn on each other, especially online, and how girls get blamed for almost everything. It’s very loud and a bit controversial, but that’s kind of the point. Not a “light watch” but it sticks with you. Also really like the aesthetic of the movie. If you watched euphoria, you’ll definitely see a resemblance between the two since Sam Levinson wrote and directed the movie!!
• Mysterious skin: two boys who were both sexually abused as kids by the same man, what makes the movie stand out is how differently they process it as they grow up. One of them completely represses it and convinces himself something else happened instead, thinking that it was aliens that abducted him as a child, while the other is more aware of it but ends up coping in really self-destructive ways. This movie’s really dear to me, although it’s a hard watch since it’s handled in a pretty raw/hard way but it’s mostly why the movie’s so impactful.
• Léon the professional : A classic. Its about this super skilled hitman named Léon who ends up taking care of this 12-year-old girl that lives down the hall from his apartment after her family gets murdered. She convinces him to take her in and help her with getting revenge. At first it’s just about him being her protector and surviving together, but with time they form this weird, complicated bond. I loove how it balances action (which most of the time i don’t really like) with quiet emotional moments. The relationship is intense and at the same time, oddly tender. Also i looove Natalie Portman in this movie, it was her first big role and she totally killed it.
There’s so many more i wish i could list but i wouldn’t want this to be toooo long for u to read. So here I’ll move on to some movies i feel like every one should watch, at least once in their lives!!!! (I’ll highlight my absolute faves)
