“so how is all that going? he asked, trying to keep himself distracted, and talking about someone else was a great way to do that.

“It’s going well, I think,” Hana said with a slow nod. “Not as well as my parents hope, but I attribute my lower grades to my hefty work-load. I’m attempting to figure out a better way to organize and schedule my classes so I’m not so overwhelmed by the amount of work I have to do.”

Will nodded as he was appreciative of her words. They calmed the beast in his mind that was ridiculing him for his behaviour. His eyes cast over to the pitch where he could see players zipping around like tiny flies. It was only the movement that caught his attention. 

“I don’t really have the attention span to read, I can’t focus,” he admittedly quietly. “Is it any good?” he questioned. “I have The Hobbit in my bedside drawer.” 

At her words, Will could relate somewhat. “Crowds make me trip out. I can’t deal with the cagey feeling, being trapped. It’s why I like my broom. It’s just a way to escape that.”

“Have you tried audiobooks?” Hana asked him curiously. “They may work for you, as you can do other things as you listen. Such as fly on your broom.”  She smiled, hoping he didn’t think she was making fun of him or anything, because she wasn’t.

“hey umm” he looked over after a moment, “thanks for staying. I know you’d probably rather be doing something else”

Hana glanced over at him with a small smile. “If this is helping, then I don’t mind staying,” she assured him softly. “I’m only a student. I won’t be as much help in the infirmary as some of the residents and full mediwitches.”

“I don’t - I don’t really know how to function without other people around” he admitted, looking over at her, “but I know if I’m around too many right now I’ll say the wrong thing to someone. So, I think I just don’t want to go crazy by myself”

Hana didn’t say anything for a moment, processing that. “Okay,” she said softly, settling down and preparing to spend some time there.

“I’m fine. I have my tea now, see?” he raised the cup up for emphasis, taking another sip “now sit down and rest and recharge. think of it as part of the priority of making sure I’m okay”

Hana hesitated before moving to sit down next to him. “How is this part of making sure you’re okay?” she asked, even as she did. “You just told me you were fine.”

“Are you taking care of yourself too?” he asked, a little concerned that she wasn’t “future mediwitch or not you’re important to take care just as much as your fellow students”

Hana shook her head. “I’m not important. Not right now. I can rest and recharge later, but right now, at least in this very moment, my first priority is you, and making sure you’re okay.”

“That’s good at least” he nodded, taking another sip, then setting the cup down to his side. “Have you heard anything else? I feel stupid, but I’ve been kind of avoiding everyone” something that was definitely odd for Asher. For the first time he didn’t know what to do or say around other people, and that scared him.

“No, nothing else. I was taking care of those injured, and then I came to see who else needed something,” Hana admitted. “My first priority is the physical wellbeing of my fellow students, followed by the mental and emotional wellbeing.”

Will looked up from his thoughts as his eyes searched the source of the voice. “Huh?” he answered prematurely before his mind had time to process. “Oh- uh yeah,” he nodded quickly to correct his previous response. “I like playing,” he shrugged. “I guess I’m feeling a little impatient today. I wanted to play but they didn’t call Slytherin up this time,” he spoke as it settled into a murmur. Playing helped relieve the built up anxiety inside him, without a release he felt tense.

Sitting down beside her, he wrapped his arms around his legs, that he drew to his chest. “I know that sounds really bratty, sorry,” he apologised knowing how immature he must be sounding.

“How come you’re not in the stands?” he asked.

“It doesn’t sound bratty,” Hana assured him, shaking her head. “You’re passionate about the game. I don’t think that’s a bad thing.” She looked down at the book in her hands, lifting it up with a small smile. “I’m passionate about reading. And learning. And, well, large, loud crowds make my head ache.” She lowered the book back to her lap.

He knew she was right when it came to the professors protecting the students, but it still didn’t stop the residual guilt. “Thanks, Hana” he took the tea from her taking a sip of the hot liquid. “are you okay?” 

Hana nodded. “Yes, I’m okay,” she told him. She was tired, but okay. Mainly, she was worried about those directly affected by the dementor encounter. He’d helped out in the hospital wing earlier when the students were first brought in, and now she was checking on the other students that were there.

“You don’t have to feel guilty about anything. Nobody was killed, and those in the hospital wing will recover. Everything will be okay.”

“I just - I didn’t do anything. I should have done something, right? That’s what - that’s what good people do. Maybe I’m not a good person” 

Hana knelt in front of him, holding a cup of steaming tea. “I don’t know that there was anything you could do. It’s the professors’ job to protect the students.” She looked at him worriedly, as she offered him the tea. “Here, drink this. It’ll help calm your nerves.”

Will ran his hand through his hair and sighed. It frustrated him when he couldn’t play, he was impatient. The boy breathed quidditch there was nothing he wanted more in life than to be up there on his broom in amongst the dangerous game with bludgers flying overhead.

He had to be patient… it wasn’t Slytherin’s turn to play.

The snake just wanted to prove himself, to prove that natural skill he had. He wanted to show his father he was worth that offer to try out for Puddlemere United.

He’d found a place away from the stands, the bottom of the pitch near the entrance to the field. Will often studied his opponents. He may have a strong rivalry with the other teams but there was nothing but respect from the Captain. He always played by the rules and made sure his team did too. There was no foul play, he wouldn’t have it under his reign. They’d be a good team purely based on their unity as a team and their discipline and strategy.

The game was frustrating. Gryffindor were obnoxious and it got under his skin how over-confident they were, how cocky and arrogant they’d behave. Hopefully this year they’d show them, put them in their place. He was just hanging onto that opportunity. 

He’d watched their techniques, their formation. He kept his eyes on the seekers and observed how the chasers passed and scored; anything that would give them an advantage. However the irritant at not being able to play was too much that he chose to leave half-way through the game.

Hana had been reading outside against a tree, barely looking up as the game played out in the pitch off to her right. She did, however, sense someone walking by, and she glanced up from her book to see William walking away from the pitch.

She recognized him only because she came out here often to read and saw him going frequently to and from the pitch to practice.

“Don’t you love Quidditch?” she called curiously, surprised to see him walking away this time. “Why are you leaving?”

                    jay beams,   satisfied that she’s not upset,  that he didn’t completely ruin her night or anything,  and at her words he stands up straighter,   choosing to take her comments as a compliment.    he offers her a hand,   nodding his head a little bit towards the dance floor.               ❝   well,  maybe you should join me.   show me how it’s done,  huh  ?   ❞    

“Oh, I’m afraid I’m a terrible dancer,” Hana admitted with a slight flush. “I’d trample all over your feet.” She shook her head, glad for his smile but worried about harming him.

As much as Fabian was in pain and a bit annoyed that he was disturbed, the girl that stood before him didn’t seem to do it intentionally and was highly concerned. “I’m good for now. Just hit my head a bit…but thanks for checking up on me,” he ruffles his hair in order to relief some pain from his scalp. “Was there something you were looking for or…?” 

“We should take you to the infirmary to make sure you don’t have a concussion,” Hana insisted. She would’ve checked him out herself, but she felt under-qualified, especially since she was nowhere near ready for her residency yet. Her book search was completely forgotten, her only concern being on making sure the boy was okay.

                      jay looks devastated     –     eyes wide and sad    –   quickly magicking the shattered pieces of teacup up and mopping up the mess to the best of his ability.        he wasn’t so good at cleaning,    always having somebody else around to do it for him.      to make matters worse,     the girl was being so nice about it,      merely looking disappointed that she didn’t get to finish her drink.           ❝   i’m so clumsy,  i’m really sorry.    can i get you anything else  ?      ❞  

“It’s really okay,” Hana assured him, not wanting him to get too upset about it. It was only tea. Nobody had been hurt. “You looked like you were having fun. I can always get more tea.” She gave him a reassuring smile. “You should go back to dancing. It was entertaining.”

Fabian sits down on the rough carpet; his back against the books that were on the shelves. Intensely reading on the fiction that grew upon him for the past couple days that was nearly going to come to an end. As his eyes grew wider towards the writing on the paper, a sudden pile of books hit on top of his head. He seeks the fact that someone from the other side may have done it on purpose. He stands up attempting to find the person who was behind it. No such luck.

Hana quickly hurried to the other side of the shelf when she realized what had happened. “I am so sorry! I wasn’t paying attention when I set my books back. I must have pushed them too hard. Are you okay? Where did the books hit you?” She stood on her toes in an attempt to get a better look at his head, neck, and shoulders, checking for any bumps, cuts, or bruises.

“Oh. Yes, I’d appreciate it if you could,” Hana admitted. “Though I don’t want to be a bother. You have a lot of things on your plate as well, don’t you?”
