In a fully functional organism, an emotion has a very short life span. It is like a momentary ripple or wave on the surface of your Being. When you are not in your body, however, an emotion can survive inside you for days or weeks, or join with other emotions of a similar frequency that have merged and become the pain-body, a parasite that can live inside you for years, feed on your energy, lead to physical illness, and make your life miserable.
Eckhart Tolle (via lazyyogi)
Magic Moon Week Day 5 - Dreams
“Ultimately it comes down to making yourself and the people who can share it with you, in some way, more themselves, to make you more yourself, to make human beings more themselves, and therefore, by extension, better, stronger, more real. Isn’t this the function of all art? I mean, get out of the Western bag, out of the “art for art’s sake,” out of the perfect circle. A perfect circle is a point. It moves not at all. It’s stationary. Let’s get out of that. The function of any art is to move, more deeply, to make us more whoever we are.”
— Audre Lorde, from Notes from Audre Lorde Discussion at Cazenovia Women Writers Center
“(…) you have made loneliness holy and useful”
— Audre Lorde, from Sister Outsider in “The Black Unicorn: Poems”
“Men who are afraid to feel keep women around to do their feeling for them while dismissing us for the same supposedly ‘inferior’ capacity to feel deeply. But in this way also, men deny themselves their own essential humanity, becoming trapped in dependency and fear.”
— Audre Lorde, ‘Man Child’
“Pain is important: how we evade it, how we succumb to it, how we deal with it, how we transcend it.”
— Audre Lorde
