I am really enjoying that at the beginning of the series Shanks was like 'uh, no, kids should not grow up on a pirate ship' and every time we see part of his childhood it's another batshit thing that children should not have been near and it's really like. yeah. this guy has the rare shounen superpower of self reflection and avoiding generational trauma.
