āSometimes these premieres - well they always feel like work. Itās a little overwhelming and these interviews last forever, so youāre really in a professional state of mind. Even linking out with my buddies at my house tonight, my family, my friendsā¦Iāve been in L.A. for twenty years now and this is kind of the culmination to a lot of things, so itās an emotional night and Iām trying to be here for it as opposed to slapping on that professional mentality. Iām trying to be more human, and it feels good.ā

When you finally get a good director to handle your character arc and he does everything right including characterising you and your brother properly and just making a work of art in general then two punk bitch white boys come along and take away all your character development, kill your brother in the opening of the first half of their grand finale and treat your PTSD and trauma and devastating loss of your people and depression as a joke in the second half and now youāre stuck yelling at 12 year olds on fortnite

Iām sure somebody has shared this before, but itās just too funny to ignore.
What kind of job do u have?
Iām a geophysicist.
I have my name on a couple small papers, but I am not a researcher, I work in the seismic imaging industry.
Seismic imaging looks at using seismic waves (like earthquakes, but ours are human generated and much smaller) to create models of how the rock layers look below the ground or the sea (I work on the marine side). You can think of it as an ultrasound of small sections of the Earth. I only work in data processing, but capturing the data looks a bit like this:
Unlike an ultrasound of a body though, we donāt know the composition or the shape of the rock layers, and the data collection conditions are often not great, adding a load of noise, so usually we receive data that looks very much like a load of garbage, and not at all like actual rock layers. Here is an example of raw data:
My job involves turning these messy datasets into nice, clean images that look more like this:
Depending on the size of the survey, and the complexity of the rocks, a project can take from 2-3 months to a year or two with one to 5-6 of us working on it. Oil and gas companies pay us a lot of money for good data, since they need them to plan their wells correctly, and itās very expensive for them (and very bad for the environment) if they drill in the wrong place⦠(no, we are not connected to fracking though, as far as Iām aware). My day to day roles include:
Analysis of VERY large amounts of data (our current project has almost 2000 Terrabytes of dataā¦).
Recognising and understanding patterns in data that can be used to apply various processes to clean and correct it.
Presenting results to clients who usually donāt have a fully detailed understanding of what we are doing. So I have to think about how to adapt my message for the audience, both visually and logically.
Testing theories and new technologies to improve our workflows.
So, as you have guessed, I do have an unfair advantage in data analysis that I can apply to theorising about TPN. I have been trained to do this sort of thing, and earn my keep doing it, just on slightly different type of things.
I have to say that itās a lot more fun to theorize on a story and characters, than just wiggles and rocks! But I do need money to live (tbh, it is a job that pays well, so I wonāt complain).
What I love about TPN though is how detailed and consistent it is, so I can actually use my analysis skills in a serious way. Itās a truly magnificent piece of work, both story and art-wise. Shirai-san and Posuka-sensei are both geniuses that I admire!
