a faint ‘fuck’ managed to escape their lips, the light of their laptop illuminating the room around them, hidden away in a closet as their shaky fingers tried to get into the robots’ programming after just been interrupted from their studies. the codes and commands didn’t make sense to them – not ones that they had ever learned yet in training, despite their advancements in them – and winnie was quick to close it and sigh, biting their bottom lip. opening the door to see if the coast was clear, they hugged their device closer to their chest and hurried down the hall where he, like others, have taken refuge in a kind of panic room. sliding down against the furthest wall from the door with legs now pulled up to their chest, winston turned to the person beside them. “ got a-any updates f-from the professors ? ”
SHE HAD BEEN TRYING FOR HOURS, to attempt to control the robot, to understand where the coding had gone wrong before & yet it seemed like, even after drinking 3 cups of coffee, Misun had arrived nowhere. As the other approaches, she can merely look at her screen and shake her head. Numbers blurring into each other. ‘None. It’s really getting out of control.’ She pauses, noticing the device clasped tightly against their chest.. ‘But I suppose you’ve been trying to do the same as I have…the code…it’s so…IRRITATING.’ She feels like kicking the cup to the side of her foot, but resists the urge to, instead considering the possible ways to stop the robot. ‘It sounds stupid… but….I kind of want to knock it out and try find a way to disable or reset its system.’
⸻“ i’m not scared of some glorified roomba running around the school campus. “ alex knows that he probably should be- the ai has the capability to destroy and yet here he is, leaning against the wall by a vending machine, sipping on his can of tea. “ i honestly don’t know why we aren’t taking advantage of this time. all the staff is probably trying to catch the thing. we can do whatever we want! “ and perhaps it’s because his parents were so strict on him, but alex really wants to take the opportunity while he has it to do what he wants. even if it means that he might run into the evil roomba.
Misun REALLY did not want to converse, she’d been stuck in her room for hours —endlessly trying to understand why the AI was going so CRAZY in the first place. She’d allowed herself a five minute break to get coffee. Yet his words pierce through the empty hallway as she inserts a coin, ‘Perhaps, you should know better then to go against something you don’t understand.’ Misun presses in the option for coffee, pausing to reflect on her own words. ‘Trouble will bring you more problems, do yourself a favour and don’t be RECKLESS.’ Misun knows its hypocritical of her to say, considering the fact that she’s planning on shutting the bot down, but neverthless, she simply looks at the other and sighs.
“ oh shit, hey ! ” he shouts hoarsely to the figure in the dark. kihyuk isn’t sure if they look familiar, or the dark is disillusioning him. “ wait up ! ” the boy dashes ahead in the dormitory hallway towards the shadow of a person. he was up because he wanted to DICK around and explore a little while the campus was nearly empty. nevermind that there was a DEADLY AI going around the institute. alexa this is so sad… play despacito. “ what are you doing out, anyway? don’t you know SIRI done lost her heckin’ mind ?? i mean, i know that and i’m out here but still. you wanna know why i’m out here ? i wanted to grab a midnight snack and maybe check st. joan’s out a bit more.” he thought a little. “ and you know what ?? i’m not even AFRAID of this robot; i’ve SEEN the interview with WILL SMITH and SOPHIA. i know what goes down ! ” and he might be talking a LITTLE TOO MUCH right now. as usual. and he’s oblivious. as usual. and he’s not even sure if he knows this person.
KIM MISUN loves the dark, she likes to hide away in the shadows and mull in her own misery, so it’s safe to say that when HE appears she grumbles in disappointment. KIHYUK was too LOUD, he was all the things she couldn’t be and to some degree it frustrated her. PERHAPS she wanted to be soft like him, or even better than that be sociable. ‘I...uh..I just..wanted too um.’ Out of her comfort zone, caught off guard, Misun smiles awkwardely. ‘Well, I wanted to stop the robots...I can...hack stuff you know.’ She approaches him wearily, clutching a screwdriver tightly. ‘But...I guess I kind of need backup. Only if you won't talk too much.’ Truth was, she was scared, scared out of her damned mind...but it was either this or going along to her possible death & the latter was not an option.
*Crashes through window* Helllooo everyone, I’m Cherub (19, GMT) and this is my v shy kid KIM MISUN. She specialises in HACKING/CODE BREAKING (also breaking into locked places and stuff idk) and she’s really bad at anything to do with ACTUAL COMBAT. More info about my kid under the cut!
LIKE THIS AND I’LL HOP INTO YOUR IMS
tw death, murder, foster care/adoption
Kim Misun was born in December to a physics teacher and police officer
they were both hella in love with each other and tbh Misun loved and respected them
growing up, Misun was really shy and she was always very isolated in class + but during this time she went through endless riddle books
she couldn’t write essays to save her life but every maths test she came top of the class.
So, life was good by the time she was 13 and she’d become a pretty competent coder thanks to all those hours spent alone and while she did have friends, Misun never felt totally comfortable - like something in her life was missing.
her life was too perfect, too ordinary until her dad, a police officer was killed while on duty.
Her life suddenly fell apart. She’d had her sights set on Seoul National University, but she couldn’t think about anything except her dads death.
So Misun’s life changed, once top of her class she became erratic, refusing to speak and constantly getting into trouble. She wanted attention from her mother so she’d start fires, vandelise things...anything to get her mother to just ?? respond??
Her mother, disappointed, instead kicked her out of the house.
sooo for a week she’s couch surfering before she’s put into a foster home...but during that week she meets the older brother of her classmate, while she’s ‘pretending to be sleeping’ she sees him coding but it looks a bit different....and bam she meets his group of friends and they kind of become family and look out for her tbh
Turns out...they’re all hackers lmao + she learns from them!!!
So by and guess what? she gets suspicious about her dads death + they never really explained how he died and she’s not really over it. Time passes and Misun’s skills have improved and she’s comfortable in her foster family. But the thought of her dad still lurks in the back of her mind.
She basically begins attempting to hack government software (misun aka idiot.... she’s really still a teen) she was always good in class but even then that’s too far.
anyway she gets caught but since she’s a kid in juvenile detention she’s offered two choices - go to jail/trial or train to become a spy and give up her friends who also hack.
She picks the latter and ends up at St Joans!!!! -ditching her hacker family but oh well :(
Misun is talented and has ability, she also has mad talent for a 14 year old so even though she isn’t related to famous alumni (or is she???) she’s distinguished herself as an exception
(could this be because of her fathers past?? who knows lets find out)
sooo though she’s been here awhile Misun is still pretty weak and tbh doesn’t make an effort to know people - she finds social interaction kinda scary.
Probably in the lower sets in terms of ranking except in technology related areas. Misun still doesn’t think she belongs here and she’s still mulling over her mother and the mistakes she made all those years ago. She just goes on her laptop or trains really late at night tbh
She resents people who actually chose this life and weren’t forced into it tbh

SHE WOULDN’T LEAVE A dent on his fragile h e a r t. she wouldn’t leave a scar or a scratch. that wasn’t misun. where she had once rested in his heart, she’d leave an empty HOLE the day she was gone, an ache so unbearable beckett wanted to fall to his knees just thinking about it — he would never recover after that. but for now he needed to be strong for the both of them. «you’re not a burden,» he protested, pulling her in, his lips against her forehead, s o f t as if she’d evaporate. «you’re my best friend.» his arms strong around her tiny frame as he rested his head upon her shoulder. «you’re my best friend.»
A SMALL part in her heart craved more, more than being just his BEST FRIEND. But Misun knew that those words would only be revealed on a deathbed. Why ruin a friendship so based upon sacrifice? She was a selfish, sickly girl, but somehow around him she felt GOOD. Like teaching kids about maths and paying for someone’s coffee. He always made her BETTER while Misun only ever made him worse. Part of her felt like she was leeching the life out of HIM & she’d forever feel that guilt. So she finally pulls away, allowing her hazel eyes to glaze over and instead let her hand hold onto his tightly. As if he’d fade if she wasn’t careful enough. “Come on, enough soppy bullshit.” She croaks. “Let’s go get absolutely wasted on this roof, yeah?”
despite being twenty years old ( on the brink of twenty one ), sehyun often had the grumpy attributes of a s i x t y year old man ( especially when his night-time silence had been interrupted ) so, it was little surprise when he met the little adventure with nothing more than slight contempt. ‘ this isn’t my idea of fun, ’ sehyun wouldn’t know fun if it smacked him in the face. ‘ left — it’s the building at the end of the block. ’
She was CHILDISH because she was desperate to cling onto what remained of her youth. Though time was running out for her, it felt like the stakes were now higher than ever before. It didn’t matter that he was a stranger, it didn’t matter that her hands were now unusually BLUE. What matters was that she was here, alive --- just for a second. And as they finally approached the building she can only sigh in contentedness. “I don’t know how you can’t have fun, the sky is beautiful, the night is alive and you’re literally with the hottest stranger ever ----about to wreak havoc on some shitty people.....what’s wrong with you?”
‘ is there a reason that i’m following wherever your heart leads ? ’ sehyun couldn’t stop himself from being an inevitable grump; this stranger had dragged him into her mess — and with little reason. the only variable sehyun could’ve been in the situation was collateral damage. another sigh left him as she answered his prior questioning; he really should’ve expected such an answer. ‘ you’re threatening me right now, really ? are you even trying to get me to go willingly ? ’
“Why are you so grumpy? We’re youths on the brink of our destinies...or at least you look young, have some fun will you?” They approach the end of the alleyway and Misun can’t help but smile at the stars above her, life was beautiful & she wished she could live it like this forever. She twirls slightly, giggling to herself, really, she seemed insane. “I’m just giving you a subtle caution, now which way do we turn? It’s getting cold and I shouldn’t even be out for this long.”
surely someone was going to interrupt her ‘ end of the world ‘ rant about ice cream sooner or later and with the blank expression on the cashier’s face — it was going to be one of the people waiting in line. The mildly sarcastic interruption came as a surprise nonetheless, attention turning towards the taller female. “ pardon ? “ mijin had a hard time deciding what was worse; the comparison between yogurt and ice cream or the attitude of the other. “ i’m sorry to hold you up in line but i’m clearly having an I M P O R T A N T discussion right now. “
“There’s another ice cream place down the road, if you let me pay for this ---I’ll show you where it is. Now please can you hurry the FUCK up.” She stresses her words and clenches her fists in annoyance, Misun wasn’t patient at all & this time she was becoming more and more CHILDISH by the second. “Listen kid, ice cream is not important in this world, so i suggest you grow up.”
She was TRYING to be strong, to be this tough girl that had always been implanted in her imagination. But all that was left, was fragile Misun, wanting to leave, but being unable to let go. “It’s killing me....dying like this....it’s killing me.” & So Misun sobs into his shirt, allowing herself one moment of comfort, just one. “I keep thinking that my matter will be transformed into something else...like...a butterfly or a star in space ---but it’s still not enough. why does it have to hurt like this?”
HE DIDN’T WANT TO ADMIT that he completely understood what it was she was trying to do. beckett was good at lying to himself, but there was no way out of the grave they were digging together — her disease was a one-way ticket and beck wasn’t invited. «don’t you understand ANYTHING ?» his voice fell flat of exhaustion alone as his thumbs came up to swiftly remove misun’s tears. the sight made his heart ache, knowing very well that he couldn’t keep her safe — there weren’t any distances he wasn’t willing to cross for her, but there were destinations they would all have to face alone. «it doesn’t hurt.» this is healing. «it will, but right now it doesn’t, and that’s what i want to remember. your smile, your warmth, your laughter — i need to remember that. i NEED you.»
“No, not really.”She cannot remember the first time they met, or the reason he came stumbling into her MESS of a world. But he formed an irreplaceable part of her life & when she looked out of the window to see the sun shining, he was often her first THOUGHT. & when she felt scared or afraid she was reminded of his STRENGTH. “I’m sorry.” She shakes her head, regret pouring through her features. He was right, he was always right ---Misun knew. “This was a burden you were never meant to bear.” Her futile attempts to push him away had her needing him MORE. Such was the push and pull of life that was inescapable. “Remember me, asking you, to forgive me.”
Her life was full of illegal activities, avoiding the law at all cost & breaking systems down into mere shreds. She didn’t really have a purpose, only a vision of absolute DESTRUCTION. If she burnt, the world would burn with her. However, she was grateful to those who helped her escape sticky situations more than ONCE. But that didn’t mean she felt as if she owed anything to THEM. And that was exactly the case as Misun snatches the last copy of ‘Great Gatsby’ off the shelf, smirking at the lawyer in front of her. “You may of helped me, but I call dibs on the book, if you want it you’ll have to fight me.”
“I swear if you stab me with a pin I will MURDER you.” This is what Misun grumbles at the other girl, clenching her fists as she stands in the centre of the shop, fabrics and cloths littered around them. “You better give me an extra BIG scoop of ice cream, I help you too much ---honestly.” & so Misun plays with her tangled hair and sighs, deciding to let her anger simmer for a MOMENT. “Anyway, how was your day? Busy? Any goss?”
PEOPLE ALWAYS SEEMED TO GIVE HER FLOWERS. And she hated it, she despised the way the colours felt vibrant & the smell was that of nature & life & Misun wanted NOTHING more than to burn everything that made her so JEALOUS in the first place. She was resentful of the life she wouldn’t get. She saw LIFE everywhere. & that was how she ended up HERE. In front of a girl she hadn’t seen in a long time, wearing smudged eyeliner and a shirt stained with ketchup. GENTLY, she places the two bouquets down, finding herself overcome with SHAME. She desperately wished the shop was full as the emptiness made her feel tense & awkward, uncomfortable to say the least. “Taeyeon...it’s been awhile.”
