Muzan growled in fury. He couldn't believe it. He couldn't believe that Ubuyashiki had managed to outsmart him! Sure, the man had died doing so as he not only exploded his mansion containing him. But took out his wife and two children with him. All to make sure that the blow of the explanation would weaken his regeneration! And Tamayo... He glanced down toward the woman's head that was now dangling in his hands.
"Your... Going to hell! " she couldn't help but hiss at him. He only chuckled in response amused by her words. "Hundreds of human's has spat those words to me over the years" he said tilting his head to the side, his eyes narrowed. "But they never make them come true. How sad" he mocked. The woman had tears fall from your eyes as she grit her teeth.
"My.. Husband and kids! Bring them back! And return that poor girl that you took away from her family and friends!" Already have have enough of what she had to say huffed in annoyance. "Die, and join the relatives that you killed" and with that he crushed her head Making it explode.
Her words echoed through his mind. So he was right, they all were trying to retrieve y/n back from him once more. He remembered the last words the Ubuyashiki had told him. As well at that Kamado boy before he fell into the invite castle.
"Muzan Kibutsuji, we might have failed to protect that young girl you took away from us. But reassured that we demon slayers will bring her back home. One way or any other. " those were the exact words before everything had went ablze. Then there was also that one kid-
"KIBUTSUJI! RETURN Y/N-SAN TO US IMMEDIATELY! I MAY HAVE HESITATED ONCE BEFORE. BUT NEVER AGAIN! I'LL GET HER BACK! AND END YOUR MISERABLE LIFE SO THAT YOU WON'T HURT HER ANY LONGER! DO YOU HEAR ME! "
His teeth grit at the thought. "I will never let y/n go. She is rightfully mine and mine alone." He growled as he walked away. He didn't have to worry for them to locate you as you had been moved deep within the infinity castle. There would be no absolute way that they could locate you in time. He would make sure of it.
He quickly made his way through the all the twist and turns throughout the infinity castle. Killing multiple of the demon slayers in the process. Weak. Every last one of them were so utterly weak and pathetic. Did they really think they'd manage to steal you away from him like this? What an utter joke.
With the sound a Nakime's biwa stung. Muzan soon looked around until he titled his head to the side and saw none other than that Kamado boy with one of the hashira's. Seeing him Tanjiro gripped his sword in anger.
"Muzan Kibutsuji! " he shouted to the demon. "Where is she! Where is y/n! Tell me! " Muzan only rolled his eyes while waving his hand. "Please, as if I'd ever tell you her location. Honestly, are you all the stupid. That I'd tell you where she is just so you can take my daughter away from me-"
"SHE'S NOT YOU DAUGHTER! She never will be! She's not even a demon! She has no ties with you! " Tanjiro shouted in anger. Both him and Giyu soon paused when Muzan began to let out a low chuckle until it turned into a full fit of laughter. Why... What was so funny?
"Oh how wrong you all are. Tell me, would you still want and care for her after finding out that she has turned into a demon? And ate a human none the less! " the two froze. No, that wasn't true. You weren't a demon. There was no way.
"She was turned the moment she returned to her rightful home. And once I get rid of all you weaklings, she will finally be able to leave all her last behind and start a new. "
Tanjiro fell to his knees. You were... Turned into a demon? You already devoured someone? That... That couldn't be true. An image of you from when you had first woken up at the butterfly mansion came to his mind. He failed you. He failed yet another person be cared about. Giyu grabbed onto his shoulder and roughly pulled him up. "Snap out if it! We can still get to her! We can still turn her back! Remember what Shinobu handed all of us in case this happened!"
Tanjiro blinked. That was right, taking out the syringe from his haori. He clenched onto it tightly. Everyone had a feeling this would have happened. Which is why every single one of the hashira and himself held onto an antidote. So when they had located you and if you indeed had turned. You'd be brought back! They still had a chance, he still had a chance to save you!
Standing up be grit his teeth. "We don't care what she did. That would all be in the past when we get her back from your cluches!" He yelled while preparing to fight the demon in front of himself. He'd bring you back no matter what!

Just as they were finally gaining the upper hand as some Obanai and even mitsuri had joined in with the help of Yushiro. The whole place began to fall apart as soon as Muzan had killed his last demon of the twelve kizuki. And soon they were all brought back to the surface.
They couldn't help but curse seeing the amount of damage and rubble that surrounded them. This was bad, they hadn't even have found any close of a change to find you! And if they didn't have a chance to find you then. With all this rubble and debris around, they worried it take a longer time to find you now. And if you were truly a demon. That was yet another thing they had to worry. Demons can't stand the sun! If they waited for to long and the sun came up without them finding you on time. You'd die either way!
"All of you! "Obanai shouted pointing towards a small group of slayers not to far behind them. " go search for y/n while we deal with Kibutsuji! And if you find her, being her to us as soon as possible! " with a nod and a shout they small group soon ran off in hope of finding the girl they were there for to begin with.
"As if you'd ever find her. It's not like I will allow you to retrieve her as well. You'll all be dead before then" Muzan spoke as he raised his hand, tendrils shot out trying his best to strike everyone around him but failed as the most of them had managed to doge them. He growled "honestly, when will you all give up and just DIE!" He screamed out.
"We'll never give up! Not until y/n-san is finally safe from your hands! " it was now Mitsuris turn to shout out as she swung her whip like Katana to strike at him. Growing angered, muzan yet again made another attempt to send an attack at them only this time managing to hit bit an parts of them all. Tanjiro coughed up a little blood as he stumbled away, gripping onto his fresh wound. Looking towards where the others were running off too.
He just hoped that you were okay.

Your eye lids witched as there were loud dancing sounds coming from all sorts of detections. What was going on? Weakly opening up your eyes, you realized that you were underneath a whole bunch of rubble, this making your eyes widened wider. What happened?!
You tried to move your body but you couldn't as large broken pieces from the infinity castle was pinning to the floor. You groaned in slight pain as you began to pull your arms and legs to move, but it was all a waste. You placed your head onto the dirty floor. What were you going to do now? Where was everyone?! Where was Muzan?! You knew that he was still alive, you didn't know exactly how. But you sort of... Felt his presence in a way.
"Hello?! Y/n! Are you here? Can you hear us?! " your head perked up when hearing the sound of other people's voies calling out to you. Where they demons? No, they didn't smell like them. And you highly doubted they'd worry or even concern themselves with you. So it had to be the others! ... Had they finally come to rescue you?! "I'm- I'm over here! " you shouted out for them.
Hearing rushed footsteps you saw that they were indeed from the demon slayer corpse. Look at you their eyes widened in fear as they took a step back grabbing onto their katanas. This making your eyes widen in surprise.
"Y-your... Your a demon! You were turned into a demon! What do we do now?! " one asked, ready to attack if needed be. Luckily, someone in the small group grabbed onto their arm. "Don't worry, remember what our order was. Find y/n and bring her back to one of the hashiras! I heard they are the ones that hold a cure if this were to happen! "
A... Cure? You mean you could actually return to a human?
With a nod, the small group immediately got to work as they removed every thing on top of you piece by piece. By the time you had fully been uncovered, you tried to stand up but only to fall in the process. That didn't surprise all that much, you were in fact still a new demon. Your regeneration was slow.
"Don't worry! You can lean on me, we'll bring you to safety soon! " a girl from the group said wrapping her arms around you. You thanked her as you tried your best to hurry with them. Even if you didn't know exactly where you were going.
"Don't worry, your safe now. "

Muzan continued his assault to attack as he began to strike down the weakest of the group. That way, it would be much easier to deal with the rest once they were dealt with. But it grew harder with the fact that more of the hashira had came to help AND with what ever Tamayo had done to him which sent his body to 9,000 years ago.
"Just give up shit head! We won't let you win! " Samemi shouted in rage as he swung his sword Making another attack. He didn't know how they were all so determined. It was as though they all were desperate to keep you to themselves as he were.
He was about to make another attack when he felt his body jolt. His eyes went wide and his paused his movements and locked behind his opponents. He knew this feeling.
You were getting closer.
Had those weaklings actually found you?! There was soon a shout that made all of them pause their fight.
"Y/N-SAN! WE- WE FOUND Y/N-SAN, SHE WAS TURNED TO A DEMON! " He heard a voice shout out, muzan saw how the kamado boy and the rest of the hashira eyes were wide.
"Hurry! Hand her to one of us! The sun should come up in and hour and a half! " Gyomei shouted to one. Once they had come to you, Tanjiro's eyes we're wide with concern seeing you hunched over and slightly blooded.
"Y/n! " He screamed out Making you look up. But there was something different about you. There wad a sudden look on your face. A face he and the rest of them recognized from all their time slaying demons.

Your nose twitched. You took a whif in the air, your mouth began to drool. What was that delicious smell? You eyes rolled to all sort of directions trying to find the source of the magnificent smell. God, when was it theast time you age?
"Oh my god, this place is an absolute mess! " one of the slayers said. "There's bodies everywhere! " another spoke with a gag.
.... Bodies?
Your eyes fell to the floor and went wide. There was bodies of fallen demon slayers everywhere. There were so much blood. Did... Did muzan do this? The longer you passed a fallen body the more your felt your stomach began to growl.
God where you hungry....
You felt your surrounds began to go in a haze. The only thought flooding your mind was hunger.
'Give in y/n.' Your eyes were wide by the sudden voice echoing in the back of your head. Was that... Muzan?
'Your hungery are you not? There's food everywhere. Go on....kill them...'
Your drooling began to worsen. It soon caught the females attention feeling a wet spot grow on her uniform. She gave you a concerned glance. You eyes were glued to the floor wide. Though, the main thing she immediately took notice of was the way your teeth were clanking together like you would when you were freezing cold.
"Y/n-san? " she cautiously called out. "Are you... Feeling well? " you paused as you slowly lifted your gaze, your red eyes locking onto muzan's, even if he was still at away length. You still saw the pleased look in his eyes.
'Devour them all'
Devour them? No... You couldn't do that. Not to them. Not after everything they've don't done for you. Your grit your teeth as the rumbling of your stomach grew to much to bare. You soon began to feel yourself slip. You huffed tears begining to form down your eyes.
Hungry... You were just. So. HUNGRY!

Tanjiros eyes went wide in horror at seeing you open your mouth only to harshly latch onto the woman that held you up. With a cry, the girl fell to the floor causing her comrades to scream in utter horror as they witnessed you wrip out a chunk of you flesh.
"Y-y/n-chan! What- what are you doing! " Mitsuri cried out in shock. Did you.. Did you really just lunge at one of their comrades? No.... There was no way! The hashira looked towards you terror as they watched you continue to devour the one fallen slayer. Seeing at one of the others took their own katanas out, Tanjiro shouted.
"Wait! DON'T HURT HER!" He cried out.
Just then, a gust of wind had flew past all of them. The sounds of screams filled the air. The next time they looked to where you stood they stopped in their spots.
"Y/n..." Tanjiro mumbled.
"How dare you pest try and lay your weapons on my daughter" muzan growled. You were thrashing around in his hold trying to release yourself, it looked like you were under control of some kind.
"Let her go... " Tanjiro muttered. Muzan gave him bored look with a hum. He gripped his katana in rage. "I SAID LET HER GO! " he screamed as he and the others rushed in as well trying to get a hold of you. The cure, they just needed to get a hold of you and eject you with it. Then one of them would run off with you just until the sun comes up and finally get rid of Muzan.
They all decided to attack at the same moment helping one another to try an get close enough. And with the effects of what Tamayo had muzan absorb. They couldn't help but notice his movement were finally bringing to slow down. And just like that.
There was an opening.
Tanjiro's and the hashiras you had managed to survive all the chaos eyes widened. This was their chance, they all immediately ran for it at once. Seeing this, Muzan growled and took a hold of the back of your head before lifting it up into the air. Digging his nails into your neck your scream soon filled the air as he allowed more of his blood to flow within you. There was no time for your to allow yourself to get strong and form your blood art. He only guessed he'd have to speed up the process.
Muzan grunted when feeling the side effects of whatever he had absorbed began to take further effect on his body. He grew in rage when seeing the demon slayer pests still dodging his attacks. No, this wasn't going to be the end of him. He refused! Looking towards you his eyes narrowed.
"Y/n..." He growled. You lifted your head and gave him a dozed off look. He highly doubted your were barley consciousnes from the amount of blood he transferred into you. But he wasn't worried about that now, you'd be fine. You were his kid after all. "Your demon blood art! " he hisseed, "USE IT NOW! "
Gripping on to you more your blood splattered everywhere causing a loud screech to emitt from your throat. Tanniro and the others grew furious from the way you were being treated but stopped their movements to cover their ears from just how loud it was. Squinting an eye open, Tanniro looked to you in surprise seeing a glowing green circle surround just enough for it to be you and Muzan in the center.
What was going on?
Muzan still kept a tight hold of your body as he didn't seem to be all effected by your screams of pain. But his eyes were wide in astonishment when seeing the green glow surrounding the both of you. What this your demon blood arts doing? What was it? What was it doing. His eyes searched around until it feel directly below the two of you. What seemed to be an hour glass began to turn.
Muzans eyes widened as he felt his body become lighter than it did before. Glancing down towards his body, he noticed that all the scars that littered across his body were fully gone. Almost as if they were never there to begin with. Even his hair began to go back to his natural black hair color as well!
He looked to you in astonishment seeing you had finished your screaming had dropped your head in exhaustion. Once you had fainted once more the green glow soon began to fade as well. Muzan couldn't help but start to chuckle. Then it turned to a cruel laugh. So that sad your blood art? Some sort of time Revers? He wasn't sure how he would be able to use it but he'd figure something out for you soon enough.
He felt his strength finally return back to him, he had to thank you on this one. If you didn't have a blood art like that. He would have actually been in big trouble. Crouching down, muzan gently set you on to the floor as he patted your unconscious head. "You did so well little one" he hummed. "Now, stay here for pappa while I take care of these petty little slayers hm? " he chuckled when you didn't answer.
He stood up and turned towards Tanjiro and the other Hashira who looked to him in horro. Muzan smirked towards them his hand drawing out.
"Such a shame, you all went through all this trouble to try and take away my child from me." He hummed as he took a step forward causing them to stand their ground. Tanjiro grit his teeth in frustration, this wasn't supposed to happen! He glances towards your unconscious form laying on the floor. You were supposed to go back home with them. With him!
"Muzan... You bastard! " he screamed. Muzan on sighed in disappointment as he raised his hand.
"Just die already won't you?"

You remembered opening your red eyes and looked up the dark sky in confusion.... What had happened? You lifted yourself off from the ground and your eyes we're glued to the floor in a daze. Your eyes narrowed as you tried to think back on what happened before you somehow feel asleep. But your mind was too of a fog to remember. You turned your head to the side when hearing someone's footsteps making their way towards you.
There you saw it muzan. Your brows furrowed when noticing that he was mostly covered in blood. That was then you realized so was everything around you as well. "Ah, I see you are finally awake. Just in time as well. " he muttered. Finally making his way towards you, he crouched down and raised his hands waiting for you to take it. You looked to his hand before slowly raising your own and grabbing onto his. Helping to lift you off the floor you eyes wandered all around you. There was blood and bodies every where.
"Oh don't worry, I only took care of some measly pests is all. They were getting quite on my nerves. " he mumbled with a growl. You nodded your head still in a daze. Muzan only gave you a light hearted smile. "But besides all that, you don't have to worry about them anymore my dear. " you gave him a confused glance.
Worried about who?
"Thoughs pesty demon slayers of course" he replied after hearing your thoughts. "Their all gone now. And the ones who did manage to get away will be easily plucked and killed by other demon that roam around and the newer ones I will create. " oh... You only nodded your head. Still not knowing what a 'demon slayer' was. Gosh, why were you so... Light headed?
"Y...y/n" you froze hearing something croaked out. Turning your head back your eyes went wide seeing a boy who looked almost around your age. His eyes were dull now, his hair a mess. His body was drenched in blood head to toe. He also wore some time of earrings. His hand clenched onto something, it was a syringe... What was in it?
"Give... Y/n back! " he hissed but only coughed at the end. It was clear he wasn't going to last much longer. You heard Muzan scoff as he released your hand and ordered you to stay put. Following his ordered you watched as he made his way over to the boy. You saw as he grabbed onto a random bloodied Katana from the floor and just as he was close to the boy, he dangled the tip of the blade onto the back of the boys neck.
"It's no use Tanjiro" your flinched twitched when hearing the name. It sounded familiar... That was strange. "She no longer remembers anyone of you. I made sure of that. " you titled your head. What was he talking about? You didn't know that boy. The Tanjiro boy raised his hand as if trying to reach out for you. "Y/n...I- I'm sorry I... Failed you... Again. " he spoke with a sob. You felt your heart throb. What was this feeling? Seeing Muzan lifted the blade your eyes went wide as you were about to shout at him to stop. But you were far to late as he struck the bade deep into the boys neck. The boy coughed on his own blood before his eyes went dull and his hand and face fell to the floor.
The boy named Tanjiro was dead.
Whipping his hands, Muzan stood up and looked to you. He looked at you in surprised when seeing your hand raised and tears falling from your face. "You are crying... Stop it. " He growled out.
You were... Crying? You whipped the tear from your eye. Huh... You guessed you were. You muttered an apology and heard him sigh. Making his way to you his cupped your face and whipped the last year that feel. "Oh it's alright my child. I couldn't never get mad at you for to long. " you nodded your head as he turned to walk away before reaching out his hand to you.
"Now, how about we go home and rebuild everything we lost back up together hm?" He spoke. Taking his hand you both began to walk away from bloodied scene. You'd have to look for shelter soon. It was going to be day brake after all. "And once we finally settle down, why don't we continue out little search of the blue spider lily once more hm? Just the two of us. Just like old times. " he hummed with a smile.
You looked to him returning his smile all while ignoring the deep feeling of remorse and hatered in your gut. You nodded your head.
"That sounds Delightful... Father. "

Severus Snape was not a bad man. He was not cruel, generally, or sadistic, mostly, nor was he prone to abuse, unless it was expected of him.
In other words - he could be a bad man.
But that wasn't what you liked to think. Really, you were very reluctant to accept the gravity of his propensity for mistreatment. Not that you were innocent.
It seemed Malfoy Manor was a haunted house - a building, not a home - that encouraged the very worst in every inhabitant, temporary or rooted. You extended your excuses to your topical residence.
There were other monsters living there. But there were also the candid, even there.

Severus Snape tapped his fingers against his thigh to no apparent rhythm. His concentration had never been so hard to keep on a meeting, especially with Nagini hissing every now and then.
But you were still on your mission.
"It was you, wasn't it, Snape? Who said the boy would be moving at that time?" Dolohov called out loudly from the other end of the table. "Where'd you pick it up?"
"It was the original plan," he seethed, glaring.
"Right. Was it the original plan to become the ministry's own little spy-"
"You know I have had no contact since I murdered Dumbledore-"
"Enough!" Narcissa yelled, looking startled at her own outburst. "We all trust in the Dark Lord. Accusations and mistrust are his privilege, only. If we must discuss, why not concerning you, Dolohov? Why have you not been invited to accompany the Lord on his mission to kill the boy? Surely you wanted to?"
Severus could think of nothing but the fight you had had before you left. It was stupid, he knew, but everything felt ten times as intense when he was around you. Even when he wasn't, if he was being honest.
Dolohov sneered. Everyone had heard his pathetic begging in the halls. "Well?" Severus pushed, at least directing his general irritation at someone who was set on troubling him.
"The Dark Lord believes...," he murmured, "that I have been behaving rashly lately."
"I can't believe you, Sev'. We were talking. What about that could possibly make you jealous?"
"I'm not jealous! It's just that when two people who are fundamentally attractive are in a room together, 'talking'-"
"For fuck's sake! I'm about to go on a mission and this is what you wanna talk about? This? It's ridiculous, honey!" The pet name is obviously mocking, which makes it sting even more. He just wanted to... what did he want...? He didn't really believe you'd betray him, but maybe the other guy... Lucius..."
"He's a married man! He's married and I'm not interested and he's kinda my friend! That bloke's not interested in me, and I'd be careful, because your interest in becoming obsessive!"
You stormed out, slamming the door. He fell to his knees, head in his hands. What had he done?
"Really? What did you-"
Severus could hear the heavy doors swinging open from afar and jumped up, abandoning every thought of rash Death Eaters. He almost tripped twice running down stairs and over elaborate carpets, but eventually he made it to the door, where Bellatrix was groaning theatrically.
"The Potter boy?" he asked breathlessly, though his eyes didn't stop scanning the entry for you and he really couldn't care at that moment. All those years he had waisted looking after Harry, just for Lily Evans! Of course he had loved her, probably he still did, but what nonsense had the old man tricked him with, saying that it mattered what she had died for? She was gone, she was gone, she was gone.
He had learned to live with that, as long as you weren't.
Just as he could feel the last ounce of calm diverge from his brain, just as the Dark Lord said Potter had survived but some of theirs hadn't...
There you were. Disheveled and tired, but still, there you were.
"Sev," you whispered, wrapping an arm around him as half a hug. "We failed. But just the battle, not the war, I hope." You seemed to have forgotten about the fight, and he couldn't be more glad.
"Go to bed," he pleaded, though he knew you wouldn't. He tried to inconspicuously place his hands on some parts of your body, trying to see if you were hurt.
"I'm fine," you said curtly, answering both his worries. "You're probably more brought up about this than I am."
"Hurry up, bloody lovebirds," Bellatrix hissed from ahead, only turning when you nodded at her wearily. Severus had never understood how you could be so close to such a maniac. Then again, how far from a maniac was he?
"C'mon."
The Dark Lord seethed at the head of the table, scaring everyone into silence with his own. "We lost, today," he said finally, keeping a dangerously firm grip on Nagini. "We did not capture, or hurt, or kill the boy. Harry..."
Severus looked at you. "Kill anybody?" he murmured, hoping for the insurance that you were 'helpful'.
"No, but I did blast one of the Weasley boys' ears off... your curse, actually, that Sectumsempra one..."
"And you!" Voldemort cried, pointing his wand - or Lucius', rather - at you. "You had an opening! You saw the owl, you knew it was him, you were so close... could have knocked him off his broom..."
"I didn't want to accidentally kill him," you replied honestly, but before you could finish speaking, you toppled over the back of your chair, writhing in agony.
Severus sprang up, casting desperate glanced from you to the Dark Lord and back again. You were in pain, pain, pain, he had to do something, something...
You groaned through clenched teeth, rolling and tossing on the ground. Everything hurt. Everything hurt so badly. Why was this happening? Where were you...?
"For Merlyn's sake!" Severus cried, and the curse stopped.
He paused as you lay there, limp. What would the Dark Lord do now? Torture him instead? Torture you more?
"Take her to her room," he commanded, and in seconds Severus had scooped you up, carrying you away as fast as he could.
"Put me down," you muttered halfway up the steps, determined to regain some dignity.
"No."
"Sev," you growled, and he reluctantly obeyed, only lending you some support. He pushed open the door to your room, shutting it hastily.
You collapsed on the bed, gesturing for him to join you. "Relax, darling. He wouldn't let us go just to tease. I don't think. C'mon, lie down."
He did, slowly melting into the dark covers as you ran your fingers along his side. "I'm so scared," he admitted quietly, and you listened.
"Every time you're on a mission or he talks to you alone, anything... I just imagine life without you and I can't-"

Part Three: Here's To New Beginnings... And Even Newer Ends

Previously:
"Hello, Y/N," he says in a low voice that conveys nothing, "it's been a while."
And for some reason, prompted by his words, you're given a little moment where you relive your friendship with him, how much things have changed over time.
"Yeah, it has," you sigh, feeling a bit nostalgic and for a second you shed your professional armor. You want to talk to Stevie, your ex-best friend, not your boss.
"So… How you've been, Stevie?" You ask sincerely, and you flinch when his neutral expression turns cold in an instant and his eyes narrow into a glare that's there for a second, maybe two, before it's gone, and this honestly says a lot more than any detached tone Steve may take with you. He's pissed at you. You feel like you've made a miscalculation.
"You don't get to call me that anymore. It's either boss or Mr. Rogers to you," Steve coolly responds, and although the heat of his glare makes you flinch, it's nothing compared to the "anymore" in his sentence. Shit. You're already fucking this up. You knew he'd be mad-
"As a matter of fact, while you are working for me, you are not to address me unless it is to tell me vital information. You do not come to me with problems, you come to me with solutions. You can't solve a problem? You're gone. You can't meet a deadline? You're gone. There's no excuse for failure," Steve continues on his little power trip.
"It won't happen again, boss," you're quick to spit out before he gets any angrier. This is a well-paying job. You're not going to fuck it up because of your emotions, even though you find it weird that the man in front of you used to be your best friend, and now the two of you aren't even on a first name basis. There's a part of you that wants to say "get outta here with that dumb shit," but you know better. It's Steve's way of establishing distance between you two, which is to be expected because this is his, and now your, workplace.
But if that was the case, why hire you? This is going to cause tension in the office and wouldn't it be better for there to be a calm, cooperative environment? You're so confused.
You nod demurely, waiting for him to be finished.
"Do you understand? Use your words, Y/N," and you have to hold your tongue because this fucker is testing you- you can hear it, the smallest hint of a condescending tone after years of hearing it in any and all social subtexts directed your way.
And he's allowed to call you by your first name? Noted. Steve's already letting it be known that in this relationship he's going to get away with a lot more than you will.
"Yes, boss," you answer, and he nods.
"Good. And under no circumstances are you to reference any past relationship you had with me, under any circumstances," he orders and you can't help but feel a little hurt by that because isn't that why Steve wanted you here to work with him?
If Steve doesn't have any intentions of reconnecting with you, then why is he offering you the job?
"Why did you hire me?" You can't help but blurt out because you've already held your tongue enough and Steve looks at you startled.
"What?"
"I said, why did you hire me?" You step closer and watch as Steve takes a step back, expression guarded.
"Because you were qualified for the position, end of."
You snort, and Steve's eyes snap to you.
"That's a load of shit. I'm sure there were thousands of other applicants that applied for this job, but you went with me. You wanted me enough to make an insane offer-" Steve's eyes snap away from yours, and he looks down and straightens a stack of papers on his desk.
"You're overthinking this," Steve scoffs, but you've done a lot of thinking and you're not going to be swayed.
"Tell me why, then," you insist and Steve breathes out hard.
"There's nothing to tell!" Steve says in a loud voice, hand banging on the desk, and you jump. Steve is acting really unstable, but that's only because he's nervous. He's nervous because you're right. You're like a shark though, having caught the scent of blood already so you press him one last time.
"Tell me why you hired me, Steve!" You shout right back and Steve yells, "I told you not to call me that!" right back and wow, Steve must really hate your guts because the stare he is giving you is sharp enough to kill. Steve looks as shaken as you feel, though, and he turns around to try and compose himself, taking in and exhaling deep breaths you can hear before turning around. His face is relatively calm now.
"Now listen here, Y/N, either this conversation is over or your employment here is," Steve threatens in a smooth voice.
You balk at Steve's statement, at a loss for words because you don't want to lose your job already but it's fucked up of Steve to dangle your job in front of you to stop you two from having a clearly needed conversation.
"Understood, boss," you spit and Steve frowns at you but you just send him a thin-lipped smile and step out the office to see Jessica who looks at you, obviously shocked.
You don't know how much she's heard, but it's clear that she knows something's not right.
"Everything alright, Y/N?" She asks slowly, and you stare at her for a moment, feeling some urge to suddenly spill everything to her, but you hold yourself back. You don't know her.
"Of course, Jessica. Just had a clarifying conversation with Rogers," you answer and you can see the curiosity in Jessica's eyes as she nods and hums. She decides to mind her business, though, which you find surprising.
"Hm, I see." Jessica straightens her shoulders and paints a bright smile onto her face. "Well, first things first, congrats on getting the job! In a week from today, you'll be starting work so for the rest of the week, I'll train you to understand exactly what being an executive assistant for Steve Rogers means," Jessica kindly says.
"Jessica, would you mind directing me to the bathroom?" You ask politely because you really need a moment.
You're confused as hell and something about this situation feels so damn contradictory. It's clear that Steve has some sort of chip on his shoulder, but he wants you to work for him? No. It doesn't make sense. So you do what you whenever you need a second opinion; you call your best friend, Monica.
"Heyyy, Monica," you greet her sweetly, because a lot has happened since you last saw her a few nights ago and you know Monica's going to want to know why you didn't tell her everything from the beginning.
"Oh hey, Y/N, how you've been? Don't think I haven't noticed you ignoring my texts…" Monica says with a 'cut the shit' tone so you decide to come clean.
"I'm sorry, it's just, a lot has happened, and I was trying to wait until I had a handle of the situation before I bothered you with it," you ramble nervously.
"Y/N? What's wrong?" Monica asks, alarmed and you sigh.
"It's a little bit of a long story…" you hear loud rustling on the other side of the phone and you can't make out what that is.
"Well, that works for me because I'm supposed to take lunch now anyway, so start talking, bestie."
And while you're on the phone with Monica, Steve is making a phone call of his own.
"Hey, Buck?"
"Yeah, Steve?" Bucky's quick to answer.
"I think I know what I want to do with Y/N."
"He fucked up, didn't he?" Bucky asks smugly.
"..." Steve doesn't want to deign that with a response.
"Well, what do you have in mind?"
"Something that's a bit not good," Steve says hesitantly and Bucky laughs, a sharp and quick sound.
"Ooh, do tell," Bucky urges and Steve does. He knows just how to play Y/N and leave him high and dry for once.
…
Later, when you're trudging up the stairs of your apartment building, you see Mr. Velasquez who smiles and waves when he sees you.
"How did it go, Y/N?" You want to be able to tell such a sweet guy that today went well, but your throat feels thick and you can't do it; you can't lie to Mr. Velasquez.
"Well… " you start with a heavy sigh, and just like that, Mr. Velasquez's expression absolutely drops and it makes you feel horrible.
"Oh no… you didn't get the job?" He asks gently and that question catches you off guard.
"No, I got the job! It's just, I don't think my boss likes me," you admit in a quiet voice, and Mr. Velasquez sends you a sympathetic look.
"I see," he says, and then he thinks for a moment before his face brightens and he claps his hands. "Then there's no reason for you to worry at all, the answer to your problem is simple- you just have to make him like you, and then everything will be bien!" Mr. Velasquez enthusiastically suggests and honestly, it's a good suggestion.
Except... Steve doesn't stop being a dick. Long after your training finishes and Jessica leaves, his treatment of you only worsens. Everyday he's perfectly cordial but also dry. He works you to the bone, and every interaction the two of share save for when you're in front of investors, is short and to the point. It drains you so much.
"I'll give it a try," you tell Mr. Velasquez who gives you a smile and a thumbs up before entering his apartment. You don't hear the sweet old man calling your 'jefe' a 'pendejo,' though. (Although you would agree).
Make Steve like you?
It'll be a piece of cake, and will only work as long as Steve stops being a dick.
You try your best to get him to like you, trying to use your knowledge of what he likes to his benefit, but he blocks each and every attempt for the two of you to get close ruthlessly.
One morning, you get up extra early to visit a cafe to pick up the type of coffee you know Steve lived off of in college, and you have it hot and steaming on Steve's desk by the time he comes in, heart beating as you see him take the cup and sip it.
"Y/N?" You practically run into the office with eagerness, waiting to be told you've done well, only to see Steve dunk the entire cup into the little garbage can next to his desk, and you can't hold back the gasp that tears itself out of your throat at the motion.
"I-" you're speechless. The man's evil.
"Don't pull another stunt like this again. The coffee in this office suits me just fine, thank you," Steve says, adjusting his watch as you look at him in horror. That coffee cost you seven dollars but also an extra hour of sleep! You close your eyes against the unnecessary image of throttling Steve, and take in a deep breath and release it quickly.
"Whatever you say, boss," you tell him in a light tone before leaving the office quickly and proceeding to sit down in your desk, quickly reaching for the complimentary stress ball you received your first week of working here. The poor thing's all squeezed out but you latch onto it anyway and get to squeezing until the anger you feel passes.
He pulls more stunts like these, and your only saving grace is lunch time, your escape.
You typically coordinate lunch dates with Salma, aka Ms. Chaudri, the nice receptionist from your first day, because not being able to work with anyone else but Steve really sucks when he's being such a dick towards you, and Salma goes out at the same time as you do.
And the two of you get along well to the point that you two are called work spouses by Salma's colleagues since the two of you look out for each other and have given each other small treats and trinkets. Within two weeks of you working at Cap Incorporated, you do manage to get her that fruit basket, just like she had requested. She loved it, and kept hugging you enthusiastically even though there were either people in the building she had to tend to.
You can't wait to introduce her to Monica, or to ask if she has any nice guy friends she can introduce you to. Salma is good people, so by association, everyone she knows should be good people as well.
One morning, you're walking to the building from the train and to your surprise you can see Steve in the distance, exiting a fancy looking vehicle.
Does Steve have a car? You wonder to yourself, but you're surprised to see it drive off.
Must be a rental, then.
Seeing this makes you think for a moment about how different things are between the two of you now. Steve rents a car to work. You take the train. Is there really a way to bond with him? It feels like you two are galaxies away.
As if he could feel you thinking about him, Steve turns around and catches the sight of you staring, and in the distance you can make out him waving you over so you jog over to him.
But why is he here? His work day starts unofficially at 10 or 11, but here he is, anyway. Maybe he wants a headstart at torturing you. You wouldn't put it past him.
"Morning, boss," you tell him, gripping the strap of your crossbody satchel tightly.
Steve does nothing, just stares at you a moment and then says, "Let's go."
The two of you walk in and you give a little wave to Salma and you don't catch Steve's frown at her.
"What's the matter?" Steve asks and you look at the turnstile and push down the urge to suck your teeth in frustration.
"It's my ID, it won't scan," you answer with frustration, trying to repeatedly scan the card without success.
"Well, you better handle that with the security department. But for now, go to reception for a temporary access pass; I'll wait," Steve says in a huffy voice, crossing his arms and you nod, although you wonder why. He can just go on upstairs, you're not asking him to stay. He steadfastly ignores the curious and interested looks he get as more of his company employees file into the building for their shifts and see THEE Steve Rogers. They're all wise enough to give him a wide berth, all entering through the turnstiles farthest from him.
"Hey, Salma!" You greet warmly, and Salma who's been looking at her computer screen intensely, pops up her head to smile at you.
"Hi, Y/N!" She responds, before leaning in closer to ask, "Are we still on for lunch at one?" And you give her an incredulous look because lunch with her is the one of the reasons you stay sane at this damn job! Sure you can vent to Monica but nothing beats spilling the tea to a friend that's also works on-site the place you're complaining about! There's no way you would willingly cancel.
"Of course, girl!" You say before snatching your ID out of its plastic protective case.
"I take it this isn't a social call, then?" She asks and you shake your head.
"Unfortunately not, Sal. I'm afraid my ID just decided to stop working on me today!"
"No!" She gasps, affronted, and you go along with her theatrics.
"Yes! I couldn't believe it either!" You gasp, clutching at your chest and then you switch to a lower voice because you remember Steve's watching, "So would you mind printing me a temporary access pass with all of the same permissions until I can get Security to print me out a new one?"
"Of course I can! What do you think I'm being paid for?" Salma jokes as you hand over your ID to her so she can type in your information into the system.
"Well, I thought you were being paid to just stay here and look pretty on that little desktop of yours," you playfully flirt and Salma grins at you.
"Well…" Salma pretends to think about it, "that too!" And the two of you laugh some more when the nice moment between the two of you is rudely interrupted.
"Ms. Chaudri," Steve's voice, cold, snaps the two of you out of your conversation and you sigh and turn around, already knowing that Steve is going to say some dumb shit. That's his pissed-off voice.
"Yes, sir?" Salma turns and gives Steve her best 'customer-service' smile. You know it well after seeing her handle a guy that was a dickhead a week ago, and she had thrown the same smile at him while she called security to escort the guy out.
"Please just print out Y/N's access pass. We have a busy day ahead of us," Steve continues, tone a bit more cordial, but still short and you frown. Why is Steve taking an attitude with Salma?
"Right away, sir," she responds, sweet as pie, returning to her work, but when she looks up at you, her eyes are practically screaming 'what's his problem?'
You shake your head and lean in, feigning that you're looking at her computer when you're actually murmuring to her, "I'll tell you all about it at lunch." Salma gives you a small nod and continues to tap on her computer, flashing another smile at Steve.
"One access pass ready for use!" Salma presents it to you and you thank her for it, before quickly scanning it and joining Steve. It appears his patience has worn thin, and you don't want to push him any further, (although you didn't ask him to wait for you).
"Y/N." Steve says once the both of you are in the elevator.
"Yes?" You ask, scrolling through your phone. You're not allowed to check it while on the clock so this is your last opportunity to make sure that your affairs are in order.
"Do I need to remind you that this is a workplace, not a club. You're here to work, not flirt. Please don't engage in such unprofessional conduct like that again, or I'll be forced to-" Steve starts and you look at him in disbelief.
"Flirt? Unprofessional? Salma's my friend! What you overheard was simply friendly banter, boss," you sass with a sugary sweet tone, but Steve's face remains unchanged.
"Well, you can banter on your own time, outside of work."
"I think I will! Let me see if she's free tonight after work," you make a point of saying, and Steve's face tightens. You hold your smirk back because you know he wasn't expecting you to say that.
So is he mad because he thought you were flirting or because he thought you were wasting company time? It doesn't matter anyway because it's such a bullshit thing to get mad at. Technically you weren't even on the clock downstairs, so exactly what company time was wasted?
Besides, you've caught the doofus playing Candy Crush on "Company Time" so you know the guy's full of shit and just wants to give you a hard time.
"That won't be possible," he counters, face pinched.
"And why not?" You ask, crossing your arms, and Steve huffs.
"Because you're working late, tonight," Steve answers and you scoff. What? You had no plans to do overtime tonight.
"Says who?" You ask before thinking and Steve turns and gives you a smug smile.
"Says me. My file cabinet needs re-sorting and trust me, it'll take a long, long time. Unless," Steve steps closer to you, and he's in your personal space now, "that's a problem, Y/N?"
And why was he so close to you? It's this some other kind of intimidation tactic? You're not afraid of Steve, not when you've known him since he was a teen whose head barely came up to your shoulders.
"No, it's not. I'll get on it right after I handle some correspondence between us and Shinigami Corps," you tell him with a bright smile because you're determined to not let Steve get to you. One way or another, you need him to warm up to you so he'll stop being an ass.
He leaves at four, but makes you stay until eleven. Bitch.
...
Steve doesn't know why he is so bothered by that front desk receptionist. She's always been polite to him and others in the past but Steve couldn't help feeling annoyed when watching the two of you interact like you were close friends, or even worse, flirting. Steve knows nothing about your love life or your outside life because you haven't shared anything with him but that's his fault for shutting you out from the first day.
And to be honest, he almost regrets it… he kind of misses being your friend. Having you around all of the time isn't enough, because Steve is reminded of the good old days when you two were as thick as thieves, which forces him to dwell on why you two are so estranged now. Remembering how you suddenly cut him out of your life is something that never fails to make Steve's chest feel tight with anger and hurt so he makes things even worse by being an ass of a boss, but it's not easy. He still wants to share things with you, talk to you, joke around with you. Sure, he had a small crush on you then, but he's gotten over it, and he's definitely not affected by being in your presence, at all.
Nope, not a bit.
God, Steve wishes he could lie to himself.
...
The tension between you two doesn't improve over the next week after that, and as a result, you can't but anxiously wait for the end of the workday everyday. It sucks, having to communicate with someone for nine hours who hates your guts but is also the one signing your checks. Especially since you've been overworking yourself, trying to go above and beyond trying to be his friend again.
5pm rolls around much faster than you're expecting but you hurriedly pack your crossbody satchel anyway because you feel braindead from all the data entry today. While you pack, you don't notice your wallet falling out onto the floor. Secretaries never leave ahead of their bosses and typically lock up, but tonight is a different night seeing as how it looks like Steve will be staying here all night to finish tying things up with the accounts.
"Night," you say to alert Steve to the fact that you're leaving as you head to clock out for the day, and as usual receive no response. He's such a dick.
...
Steve does notice something falling out of your bag as you leave but he's too preoccupied to call out to you and alert you when he has to get these accounts done right. When he finally finishes going through then, he gets up and walks over to where he had seen something drop out of your bag. To his surprise, the item is an old leather wallet, and for some reason, it looks familiar to him.
If it Y/N's, why does he remember it? When he goes to pick it up, it slides out of his hand, and to his surprise, everything falls out of it, cards and bills sliding out across the floor.
Steve curses and goes to pick it all up, when he notices something, a small folded up paper amongst the pile.
He can't explain it, but something just compels him to open up that paper, despite knowing it's an invasion of privacy and that if you were here, you'd rip him a new one, but you're not, so…
Steve opens up the paper and gasps.
It's the picture of a tree, one he sketched many years ago, and the first drawing he's ever shared with anyone else, a drawing he wanted to share with a nice guy who had decided to come and talk to him of all people when he was just an anxious kid in high school. And for a second, Steve is transported back to that day, when he was wondering if anyone would come sit next to him, and there you were, all smiles and compliments, talking to Steve, making him come out of his shell with ease.
You still had this?
"Why is he still carrying this?" Steve asks himself, looking over the picture. It's obvious you cared about it enough to keep it, and Steve's heart starts to race. Could it mean that you do care about Steve, and have all these years?
And all of a sudden, Steve can't help but think everything over, remembering the past month, how he's treated you coldly and shut down your every attempt to get close. Embarrassment washes over him as he recalls how you actually tried to connect with him in that first meeting and how he shut you down and asked you to call him Mr. Rogers. Perhaps, after all this time, you weren't the one to close the door, he was.
Steve is hit with this overpowering urge to make everything right, so he calls you.
...
Steve calls you.
Yes, boss?" You answer, not bothering to hide your exhaustion. For some reason, you couldn't find your wallet so that meant you had no cash, no cards on your person so when it was time to take the train, you had to hop the turnstiles, something you hadn't done since years back as a teen. Only thing was that you were a bit rusty and ended up banging your forehead as you did and so you had a killer headache that stuck with you even after you got home, and now you had to talk to Steve.
Steve flinches at the annoyed tone of your voice, but thinks he deserves it anyway with the way he's been acting.
"Y/N?" Steve sounds weird. You sit up straighter in your seat.
"Yes? Is everything alright?" Sure, you're mad at the guy but it's not like you wished him wrong. There's no response from the other end of the line.
"I can't hear you… is everything alright Steve? Sorry, I meant bos-"
"You can call me Steve. I wanted you to know you left your wallet behind." That explains why you couldn't find it! But why is he calling to tell you that? He could've waited until tomorrow to tell you but he's calling you now.
Unless he saw the picture.
"So you saw…?" You ask, training off because you know he knows what you're talking about.
I did." Steve goes quiet for a while and then he speaks again but his voice is softer now. "I never knew you kept it," he continues and you sigh. You really weren't expecting this turn of events.
"Yeah, I did," you answer, voice almost as soft as Steve's and the silence between you two is really loud now, and it feels like you're on the precipice of something unknown.
"Well, why did you?"
"Why? I'm surprised you even have to ask, Steve," you say in disbelief. "You were my first real best friend and that is the first, no, the only drawing you ever gave to me. The only drawing I've ever seen!" You add, bitterly thinking of how Bucky must've been able to see so many more, but you shake your head and continue. "Of course I'm going to hold onto it; there's a lot of sentimental value attached to it. Besides, even if you're a techbro now, I've always thought you were going to go down the art route," you add because you genuinely did think that at one point.
You're surprised that there isn't a gallery somewhere hosting Steve's art, even if you've never really gotten to see it after years of seeing Steve draw furiously in that notebook of his. Steve, on the other hand, currently feels shaken.
"Oh."
"Yeah," you say, feeling a bit like you revealed more than he expected.
"Well, thank you," you add suddenly, remembering your manners.
"For what?" Steve asks confused, and you frown, even though he can't see it.
"For letting me know about the wallet."
"Yeah, no problem."
Steve's frozen. All that's on his mind is whether or not it's too late to salvage the relationship that, in his mind, was once a lost cause.
"Steve?" You snap him out of his stupor.
"Hmm?" Steve hums.
"I asked if there was anything else."
"No, no that's it," Steve insists.
"Okay then, goodnight," you say awkwardly before you end the call, and Steve's there looking at the phone, thinking.

Severus rolled his eyes, wanting to get back to his book. That's when he suddenly felt himself levitating in the air. His eyes widened in surprise, and he tried to push himself back down, but it was no use. James had been using his spellwork, and now Severus was floating in the air like a feather.
"Put me down!" He ordered fiercely, blushing from embarrassment.
James only laughed along with his friends as he stood below him with his wand outstretched, still pointing at Severus' pants. Severus made an attempt to cast a spell at him only for James to cast the Expelliarmus charm at him, causing the wand to fly out of his hand and landing on the ground. And then crowds of students started to gather around the scene, a mocking smile on each of their faces.
Severus was panicking now, uncertain what to do as he continued to hover in mid-air. He had no way of getting his wand back and was starting to feel powerless by how easily James had ensnared him in this prank.
“Put me down!” Pleaded Severus.
“What ya gonna do, Snivellus?” James laughed, receiving a nudge on his shoulder and a compliment.
“Now, who wants to see me oull down Snivellus’ trousers?” James spoke, receiving a chant of his name as his smirk widened. Severus, who was now starting to grow angry, glared fiercely at James. He had never felt so powerless and embarrassed in his life.
“Hey! Put him down!” They heard a voice from the back of the group, and everyone turned to see (Name) standing there with her arms crossed. She looked indignant as she glared at James, who was stunned at her sudden intervention.
She strode forward and stood in front of James, making sure he made eye contact with her. “You heard me! Put him down right now.”
“Aww…how cute.” James cooed. “Someone's standing up for Snivellus. Never knew you had a girlfriend.”
"I'm not his girlfriend," (Name) snapped. She turned to the crowd and addressed them all, “You know what? Bullying is wrong. You all should really be ashamed of yourselves for standing by and watching it happen.”
The crowd was taken aback; no one had ever stood up against James before, but here was (Name) defending a person none of them liked.
James, however, was unphased by (Name)'s rebuke and pushed her away. "Don't tell me what to do," he spat as he took a step towards her, flexing his muscles menacingly.
"I'm not scared of you," (Name) said, though her voice began to shake as fear took hold. James paused before letting out a cackle.
“How adorable-”
(Name) narrowed her eyes at him and pointed her wand at him, casting a transfiguration spell that turned him into a rat.
"That's better. It suits you, you know?" she said firmly, waving her wand again to send him out of the room. The other students stared in wide-eyed shock at (Name)'s display of power, and some stepped away in shock while others stared in awe. James scurried away in embarrassment along with the others as (Name) turned back towards Severus and put him down.
“You okay?” She asked Severus, who was staring at her with shock. Unhappy with silence, she noticed the crowd of students still staring at her.
“The show’s over! Get outta here!” She yelled at them. The students quickly rushed and left the area talking among themselves about what had just happened.
Once the area was cleared, (Name) turned back to Severus, who still had a look of shock on his face. She tried her best to look reassuring despite her own fears rising in her chest, “I’m not gonna hurt you.." she started.
“Are you o-”
“Why did you do that?” His question made her pause.
“Because I needed to?” She raised a brow at him. He sighed, his eyes trying to search her face for the truth. “It’s complicated” she muttered. “But hey, I hope you're fine.”
“You made me look like a fool.” Severus snarled at her, glaring her with anger and slight relief. You raised a brow at him.
“Excuse me? I saved you! At least you didn't get your underwear exposed!” She retorted, and it only made him angier. Severus stood up and loomed over her.
“I didn't need your help.” He snarled at her, and she huffed.
“Deny all you want, but I will always have saved you.” (Name) rolled her eyes before trudging away.

Oh, how he was grateful that their paths have crossed. With a deep breath, Severus collected himself before walking to where (Name) was. She was the complete definition of an angel. Kind, caring, and brave. On top of all that, he saw her like a goddess in his eyes. Something to be cherished and protected. He would and will gladly take care of her no matter what. Severus will do anything and everything to make her stay by his side.
Imagine his shock and surprise when he saw (Name) with another male student that was not him. He tried to control the strong emotions brewing inside him as he watched them laughing and chatting.
Severus felt his heart clenching and the anger boiling within him. It's irrational, he thought to himself, but it didn't stop how he felt any less real. He knew that nothing should matter but her happiness, yet here he was unable to contain his jealousy. As selfish as he may sound, all he wanted was to snatch her out of there and drag her along with him.
Eventually, the said student left. Severus watched him go with a dark glare before turning back to her. He seemed to be seconds away from voicing his thoughts when he was interrupted by her voice.
"Oh. Severus! There you are.” (Name) chirped before her voice was laced with slight worry. “Uh. Are you alright? You look…mad.”
At first, Severus didn't know what to say. He wanted nothing more than to ask who the blood hell she was talking with and why - but he didn't know how those words would be taken. Instead, he took a few steps closer and sat himself down next to her on the bench.
"Yes," he said finally, "I'm perfectly fine. It's nothing. I've been thinking about something and it made me stop for a moment."
She nodded her head in understanding, grateful for his honesty. "Do you want to talk about it?" she asked softly.
Severus shook his head and said, "No, not really, but thank you for asking."
He could feel the tension between them. “Who was that?” He asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
“Who's what?”
“You were talking to earlier.” He didn't mean for his voice to be snappy.
“Oh. That was Jaedin, we're partners in one of our subjects.” She said, her voice was gentle and understanding.
It only made him more jealous with a sense of slight relief. He didn't know why he felt this way, but he couldn't help it.
“What subject? And why.” He got a bit too interested now.
“Interested much?” (Name) giggled lightly, expecting at least a small smile from him only to be met with his usual stoic expression.
“It's a history project,” she said. “We're exploring the concept of nationalism and how it affects the modern world." She paused for a moment and looked deep into his eyes as if searching for something. "Is there something wrong? You seem distant today."
“How long are you partners for?” Severus kept pushing, ignoring her comment.
“Until we finish the project…” (Name) said slowly, starting to get frustrated. She was getting mixed signals and wasn’t sure what he wanted her to say. “What is this about?”
Severus tapped his textbook before clenching the spine in frustration before finally speaking again. “Nothing. Just looking out for you, I am your senior, after all.”

She said only until they finished their project. So why were the two of them spending so much time together? Why was she spending so much time with that one boy? Severus was fuming every time he saw the two together. In the library, Walking down together in the hallways to class, and even at supper! He felt like he couldn't control his emotions any longer.
He can feel her slipping out of his reach…and into another man's hold. He couldn't let that happen. Severus had to do something. He had to make her stay with him. And that does not exclude such drastic measures.

(Name) rushed to the hospital wing the moment the word got to her. She had heard that her partner was in trouble, and she'd come as quickly as she could. But when she saw him there, pale and barely breathing, a wave of heartache nearly swept her away.
She rushed to his side without hesitation and silently prayed for his life to be spared. She grabbed his hand firmly between both of hers and held it close to her chest.
“Jaedin…” She spoke softly, hopeful that he could hear her. “What happened…?”
Jaedin's eyes fluttered open, and he weakly squeezed her hand. “(Name),” he whispered hoarsely. “Help me…”
Tears began to stream down (Name)'s cheeks as she heard his plea.
“Be careful please…” He continued. “Please get away from Snape…He's a freak.”
You furrowed your brows. “What? What are you talking about?”
Jaedin gasped for breath and coughed. Before he could answer, Madam Pomfrey came close and told (Name) he had to rest. Looking back at him with furrowed brows, she bid him farewell and hoped his recovery would be fast.

“You look down. What's wrong?” Severus asked (Name) as they both sat down beneath the shade of a tree. (Name) remembered Jaedin’s warning and cautiously explained the situation. “Jaedin's at the hospital wing…”
Severus had to restrain his smirk as he listened to her mumbling. Scooting closer and wrapping a friendly arm around her shoulder.
“He is injured severely. I'm worried about him.” (Name) said her voice meek.
"Ah, of course you are." Severus said softly, and (Name) couldn't help but bask into his body warmth.
“Is that all? I pressume not.”
“There was a boy in the hospital wing. He said something about how I should be careful around you… I don't know why he would say such a thing."
Severus stiffened as his face fell. He knew that little punk would snitch on him. He would, too, if he too got hexed by a senior. Severus slid his palm up and started to stroke her hair.
“I don't see why that's any different. They always say that about me.” Answered Severus. (Name) sighed and nodded timidly.
“I'm just worried for him.”
“But why?”
She looked at him surprised as he continued. “I was told that the two of you were only partners for a project. Nothing more.”
“Well I...” (Name) bit her lip nervously, searching for the right way to explain without giving away too much.
“I don't like it when you get too close to him.” He told her. “Whatever you may feel towards him - even if it's pity - he's bad news, Darling.”
(Name) felt herself blush at the nickname Severus gave her. She had never really noticed that he used it to show affection until now. “Severus, he isn't a bad person,” she said quietly. “He's just... misunderstood."
The man sitting beside her shook his head in disagreement. "I don't care if he's misunderstood or not,” He said firmly. “He's bad news, and I don't want you getting too close to him, understand?”
Looking into his eyes (Name) could see the intensity of his words. She didn't have the heart to disappoint him, but she knew that Severus needed help in order to make something good out of himself. Taking a deep breath, (Name) slowly nodded her head. “I'll keep it in mind.”

It made him slightly better knowing you're in a secluded place alone with him.
