7.03 The Girl Next Door

Ok I need to rant about SPN 4x01 Lazarus Rising for a second, I don’t expect any of this to be coherent

Dean is literally MARKED with Cas’ handprint on his arm after being PIECED TOGETHER by Castiel, (who incidentally has not created this kind of scarring with any of his other powers so it feels like that was a deliberate choice on his part, maybe a way to say ‘he is mine’ and also ‘come find me Dean’ at the same time). Anyway since Castiel is the one who “Gripped [Him] Tight And Raised [Him] From Perdition” that must have been a pretty harrowing and intimate experience to literally gather up this tortured soul and body and drag them both up out of hell… and yet when they first meet face to face Cas is surprised, saddened, yet totally immediately understands “You don’t think you deserve to be saved?” Which is just AHHHH YESSSS EXACTLY!! Cas realizes that the one thing he could not fix, the piece of Dean he could not heal despite reanimating his entire existence, is Dean’s self-worth and broken heart from years of abuse and trauma. This internalized pain that ISN’T from Hell but from his life BEFORE Hell. And then Cas spends THE LITERAL REST OF THE SERIES trying to heal that part of Dean and prove to him that his life is valuable, that the work he does is important, and that Dean should have faith in HIMSELF! Oh my God it’s insane that Cas believes in Dean so much that he loses his OWN faith in favour of putting his faith IN DEAN!?!? Almost like Cas thinks maybe if I can put all my faith into him he might start believing it too (and Dean still doesn’t!) but it never stops Castiel from trying! I just… I can’t handle them. I really can’t.
