Wow, I somehow never posted this one here - I saw fan speculation earlier about how the gw2 (?) teaser from today might be a cleansed Orr! :O Which reminded me of this older art I was inspired to paint shortly after finishing the Knight of the Thorn questline.

It involves one of my headcanons where Trahearne brings Malyck to a cleansed Orr, after the Firstborn cleanses Malyck from Mordremoth's corruption (this headcanon takes place after Heart of Thorns).

On this sunny Saturday, I had a chance to scrounge up the original file on my external - fixed the watermark, updated the font, and added a detail crop here.

There's also a higher-resolution version of the full painting at the end of the post, after a reddit user asked for one last week. I decided to make an exception this time - both because this painting is rather old at this point, and in celebration of Guild Wars 3 finally being real. :D

(Extra Life being the charity event and if you donate enough to a specific dev's thing they put a custom animal in game for you in the next update. most people do their pets that have passed away giving their pet an 'Extra Life' to live on forever in game)

Elaboration on this post, in which I mused it would be cool if Scarlet's physical form changed to look more Mordrem-like as Mordremoth drives her more and more insane over the course of the story. It would add to the madness and body-horror of some of Scarlet's clockworks if her own body is being mutated entirely outside of her control.

Ceara's antisocial personality contrasts with her generally soft appearance. Her hair is rose-like and she has the soft "leafy" sylvari body.

Omadd's machine sends her body into a spurt of wild growth - she's still soft and leafy, but her hair and ears overgrow and her glow color shifts from teal to red. She also grows in size thanks to magic absorption, explaining how flipping tall she is in LS1 instances. The slitted pupils are an early sign of madness - they can still contract and expand normally but their natural resting point is now smaller as a hint to what is going on in the newly-named Scarlet's head.

Attempting to charm and manipulate various enemy factions into falling under her banner, Scarlet cleans herself up and adopts a new hairstyle to show the new version of herself. Her hair has become notably stiffer and she's a bit more pointy, but otherwise she still looks like a normal sylvari.

When we first meet her in-game there is just something a little OFF about Scarlet. She has a few too many thorns, she's just a little too big, she moves a little stiffly and her skin seems a little too thick and wooden for even a wooden-style sylvari, and she's developed small fangs. There's a little bit of an uncanny valley feeling, and most other sylvari might think she is/used to be Nightmare Court and been subjected to their Nightmare modifications.

The truth is that Scarlet has been trying to defy her mutations, to the point of cutting off new thorns and growths, but by the time of the Twisted Marionette the changes are finally starting to overwhelm her. Her face shape itself has begun to change - nose flattening out, mouth widening, cheekbones more prominent and chin split. Her eyes no longer dilate right and have taken on a reddish-yellow glow. The tips of her fingers have turned pointy and clawlike.

Scarlet wears a full-face mask for the first time on the Breachmaker as part of her battle armor. When she's injured and dying, the Commander discovers that it's because she no longer looks like a sylvari at all. Her hair and skin have dulled and all started to fuse together, the thorns she's been growing have merged into heavy wooden plates, and she can no longer fully close her mouth, leaving her with a permanent rictus "grin". Her iconic hair tufts, her last vestige of self-expression, are still hanging on but wilting. It is likely that given a few more weeks she would have become indistinguishable from a Mordrem guard.
