emerald eyes left the pages of her book & shifted towards the window when a light tapping against the glass caught her attention. the sight of the familiar bird made her heart skip a beat & a smile slowly crept upon her lips. how long had it been since his last letter? definitely far too long, in her opinion. promptly, she rushed to the window, opening it & carefully taking the small piece of paper as she gingerly caressed the bird’s feathers, mumbling a thank you to the always reliable messager. quick hands unfolded the small letter & his message made her heart stop for the second time that day. ‘i’m home’.

sakura read those words a second & third time, taking in the familiarity of his calligraphy with a big smile when she suddenly noticed. he didn’t write i’m going home but i am home. the realization made her eyes lit up with hope & not wanting to waste any more time, sakura ignored the unfinished book sitting on her desk & was already on her way to the front door.

--months, its been since he’d left on his venture towards redemption. & it has been years since he’s felt like he had something to return to. it’s the quiet of the night that allows Sasuke to reminisce - welcoming all the forms of memories that come to him & reminding him [ why ] he deviated from the path Naruto had saved him from.

he’d been back no more than a few hours. the first detour being reporting back his mission findings to Kakashi first, then Naruto. ( there’s one more member from the infamous Team 7 left to see ) -- how many letters had he sent her? enough to keep her worries at bay.

his feet walk the familiar road, but a block away from his destination he pauses his steps. “-- Sakura,” a soft voice calls out. it’s low, but he knows she’s heard him when she turns. his gaze flickers for a moment, but dark eyes quickly settle on hers. “-- are you on your way somewhere?”
