@syngigeim
After many, many moons (of poking Handel into playing the damn game again), we finally cleared all the routes of The Merchant's Tale. That big fish is a terror.
On the one hand, I don't think Q'hara should have "war paint" as he wasn't meant to be a warrior-esque guy.
On the other hand... peeling...
On the one hand, Syngigeim being a Bastion sounds more fitting than being a DPS-focused Warrior...
On the other hand... wait, what am I talking about? My wife plays Dark Knight. It would actually be more fitting if I play main tank then.
AND THEN THE LORE DROPPED THAT IT'S NORTHERN EMPTY RELATED. Syn's lost homeland! New tank! New tank!
Post-ARR have you like: Man running these chores while everything calms down is kind of great. No major threats just good ol fashion primal sla--

Enjoy, my friends!
everyone’s always like if you engage with the story it pays off in shb and ew but it imho it pays off in a much more tangible way far earlier in sb if you gaf about Arenvald (him talking to A’aba and Aulie while everyone else is congratulating you is one of my favorite parts of the game), if Gallien saying you might not remember him but he remembers you means anything before the summoning of shinryu (he’s also an oft-unmentioned part of the drk quests), if doing the For Wilred questline and walking back with Bertliana to Ala Mhigo means anything to you. and to possibly do that you gotta engage a little with the world beyond the parts that boost your wol’s personal angst portfolio
I really love the way that the Echo is handled for the Warrior of Light in FFXIV, because while it is a boon for us as the player, and occasionally for the WoL as well, it's more often disabling than not. If their friends weren't around when the WoL had visions they'd probably be pretty easy to incapacitate. The WoL is still very OP, but it makes them feel a little more vulnerable to their friends. Not to even mention the psychological toll those visions can take, as demonstrated by Fordola. We're actually really lucky that the only villain studying the Echo was Zenos, because he's the only one who wouldn't use it against us in a fight. (Lest you give him less than your best)
So my Tomodachi Life file decided to pair up these two girls.
And ain't this a real, "We're in two separate franchises because if we were to actually meet, we would be unstoppable."
Probably the last guy on earth to realize this but Halmarut being The Sower and Meteor being a Reaper in the trailer goes so fucking hard like holy shit
There's a lot of commentary I see that "Krile feels older" or "Krile ought to be older" or "no way Krile's only 22" and so forth. But like I said in the post here about character ages being all over, and characters like Nanamo being younger on purpose for their plotlines to work, Krile's younger age and seeming maturity does make sense.
Replaying the end of Dawntrail base MSQ on the last of my four alts, there's a comment that Krile's very sensitive Echo has been active since birth. We always knew she'd had it since she was very young, but that it's been active in some form since infancy is new.
(The first Encyclopaedia Eorzea said "she discovered" it when age twelve, so is this lore adjustment meant to be "that's when they finally researched out what her gift actually was"?)
Imagine growing up an empath, feeling everyone's emotions - especially when directed at you - and able to randomly without warning see scenes from peoples' pasts. In a world where this is not common, and where the Echo was all but forgotten - indeed, Krile may have been the trigger to begin seeking out such powers among others, leading to the discovery of Minfilia's own gift and what it meant.
We finally have a short story in Chronicles of Light vol 2 of the day Galuf gifted Krile her distinctive hood, her first meeting with Ejika...and descriptions of how very difficult it was for Krile growing up. The Isle of Val was a haven due to how sparser the population was compared to Sharlayan, and most of them adults. She had no real friends her own age.
EDIT: She did spend time in the orphanage Galuf ran, early on, but it seems it shifted to her spending time with him directly and on the isle, especially when things became more difficult due to her Echo.
So this is an orphan girl raised by scholars, with few other children to interact with, while struggling to control an ability no one else understood at the time. She had to learn to control herself, to handle things no child should be asked to.
(Also why Minfilia was her "dearest friend" despite their distance and the 5 year age disparity; those were the kind of relationships young Krile had to keep herself from being overwhelmed, and who else could understand what she had been going through her whole life?)
And Krile still has her doubts, her fears, her insecurities. She expresses many of them honestly over time. She isn't actually a woman who hides her emotions. That she doesn't act out the way some of our other early twenties friends and companions do speaks very much to the differences in their upbringings, but also in what Krile had to deal with since birth. It makes sense she approaches things with far more calm and reserve, and comes across as more mature for it, given that history. She relies on her scholarly background to get her through a lot.
My last point is, we know she went to the Studium at the same time as the Leveilleur twins. She went, presumably, at the usual age for attendance, while they of course began very early. Krile is described as a mentor for them, the upperclassman who looked after them in their cohort.
And, frankly, being asked to look over a pair of pre-to-early adolescent prodigies would age anyone. Look at what they put their childhood babysitter, Urianger, through, for another example!
The other hilarity in Tomodachi Life is seeing that Aubinaux and Finn are the same guy assigned by it's personality thing and that it also puts Estinien as that guy and it's like "Ah. I have a type when I'm writing very-much-meant-to-be-stoic-masculinity guys."

Never Gets Easier
(Heartache prompt) - on Ao3 as well.
Edmont had found himself walking the city often; sometimes with Artoirel, discussing matters his son wished advice on. Sometimes with Ser Aymeric, if only to ensure the young Lord Speaker did not spend all his time in his office. Rarely with Commander Lucia, who could also use time for herself more often.
But mostly, he walked alone, through the Pillars, and sometimes into Foundation, depending on the whims of his restless feet and wandering mind. This evening was one of his lonelier walks, as the skies turned crimson and gold, passing clouds and the islands far overhead casting shadows over the streets before the last light faded. It had been a beautiful day, and promised to be an equally lovely evening.
He was having difficulty appreciating the fine weather, or the happy chatter and laughter, the bantering and debating, of seminarians as they scattered out of Saint Endalim’s Scholasticate with the tolling of cathedral bells.
Tomorrow would have been Haurchefant’s nameday.

Don't get me wrong, I've been waiting for a good dramatic moment where I get to give the scions a death fakeout. Alisaie is yelling for me to come back. Alphinaud and Urianger are working overtime to heal me. Y'shtola angrily pacing. G'raha having flashbacks, wondering how he could possibly handle my death a second time. Thancred not only afraid for me, but the thought that no one would be able to tell Ryne what happened. Wish I got to sit in it a little longer.
However.
All of them. All of them acting like they did not just disintegrate themselves literally eight hours ago, who are YOU PEOPLE to call ME reckless? Y'shtola, THIS IS THE THIRD TIME YOU HAVE VAPORIZED YOUR BODY. Alphinaud, Alisaie, WHAT WOULD I HAVE TOLD YOUR PARENTS?? G'raha, I love you, please quietly have your crisis in the corner and do not make me remind you of every time you've tried to sacrifice yourself to save me. No, Urianger, this talk's not actually for you, you showed a lot of growth there and I'm proud of you.
