Heyo! Welcome to my Vocal Synth side blog! You can call me Synthia <3
I have been an avid enjoyer of vocaloid and other vocal synthesizers since I was 9 years old. Now 19, I still haven’t grown out of my love for the art (not really a genre, is it?).
While I, personally, enjoy songs that lean towards metal and rock, I will try to recommend and discuss songs from a variety of genres on this blog. However, be aware that my tastes and biases will still be present, for I am still a human being.
fun facts below the cut!
I originally got into vocaloid through Anime! I have no idea what my first song was (maybe ievan polkka?) but I know I REALLY got into it when I was 11-ish because of Jubyphonic’s cover of MIND BRAND. From there I started listening to all the classic producers, such as Kikuo, Neru, and Wowaka.
In the current day, I’ve become an avid fan of newer producers like LadyMonsters. and classics like my beloved Machigerita! I still seek to find newer producers and songs, hence the creation of this blog. It’s quite fun to search for and find new artists. Plus, even if the music isn’t for me, someone else may enjoy it!
My favorite producers would be Machigerita and my favorite song would be Tsugihagi Sandoku (Patchwork Toxin) by Machigerita.
Here are some immediate producer recommendations: SOOOO, Machigerita, LadyMonsters, NAKISO, and Babuchan.
Then there are the vocals. I adore the mix of growls(?) with this high pitch, head voice singing. I don’t often hear Miku tuned in this specific way so it gives the song quite a uniqueness.
Overall, a lovely song that I’ve had on repeat for a while <3
While I like the guitar and drums a lot, it’s the vocals that really sold me. Didn’t know Gumi could make these sounds. Love it! Those gravelly, harsh growls mixed with Gumi’s usual high pitched singing, no matter how unintelligible, still make my day.
Can’t resist the urge to headband whenever I listen, even when I have a headache.
Just a normal, upbeat Miku song. With summer beginning, I think it fits the seasonal vibe. It’s not revolutionary but I think it’s above average and good producers deserve to have their work seen, y’know?
The name DIVA is so fitting cause WHO IS THIS DIVA!!!???
The beat… holy shit. I have no idea what Miku is saying but get it girl! Whisper in my ear! Anyway, on a serious note, the lyrics I can understand get across as depressing and, obviously, there’s the title. So, it’s pretty relatable as well. Not sure how to fully describe the experience of listening to this in words other than fucking amazing. So, you have to listen to it yourself, I don’t make the rules :)
Electro swing fans, rise up! Anyway, it’s just good! If I went to parties, I imagine something like this might play. Kafu is the singer… how many Kafu songs have I recommended now? I’m discovering I have a preference. Love the Polybius theme. Just like the game, this song is driving me insane (in a good way).
I don’t know their age but I know StardustLegend is young yet so talented! I discovered them a few years ago through their song “Deadly Sexuality of a Mantis” and have been following ever since! But this is about The Faces We Wear.
First off: Amazing tuning. Can you believe this is Yohioloid singing??? I just love the low tone of the song. Also, I think Stardust is very good at bringing out the robotic-ness of the voice, something I think is present in all their music. I think that adds charm. The way Yohioloid drags out certain words throughout the song really sells me the impression of a robot singing, which is the whole theme of the song. Brings glitches and brokenness to my mind. Of course, maybe the words are dragged out because he’s singing, shocker, but I like my interpretation more :)
I Like how KAFU (is it kafu?) Sounds in the song! I guess she always has a kinda hoarse tone but I just notice it more in this song. At the very beginning, I could tell it’d be a good one. Not sure how to describe the vibe… theatrical? Eye catching? The build up is just really nice and the sound effects help to sell it. Banana peel slip sound ❤️
Based on the title, I can guess that it’s a love song. At least I can get the gist of it. I know what “Ichiban” means! Perhaps she wants to be number one in someone’s eyes? I could just look up the lyrics but where’s the fun in that? I love trying to decipher songs, even if I can’t understand them! You can get a lot from tone and cover art.
It’s just… cute. Yet some parts make me thing of an anime girl crying. Like a romance slice of life anime could have a fan animation made with this song! Does that make sense??? Idk how to get across how expressive this song is!!! I don’t even know the lyrics but I can feel them! I believe it’s telling a story and I’m deaf but I can still feel the vibrations, you get me? It’s transcending the barrier of language, fuck the Tower of Babel.
Piano (keyboard?) solo goes so hard.
This producer only has 26 monthly listeners btw. HOW?!?!? Please listen and show m-sode love <3
Relatable. I believe it’s about social anxiety? Lime, the creator, said it’s about mixed signals and I love that the concept is shown through a zombie apocalypse in the music video!
An amazing Teto song with criminally low recognition! I love the tuning, very clear, and the instrumental… <3 couldn’t get the chorus out of my head for a week. The tune is upbeat yet not upbeat? Do you know what I mean? Like, it makes me think of a normal day. Random thoughts on an average day, people-watching, anything that just makes your mind wander. It’s not a bad day, you should be in a good mood, but there’s just something there in the back of your mind.
Like, it’s upbeat but I don’t get the full upbeat vibe!!! That’s not a bad thing, btw.
Please show Lime support for this beautiful Teto song!
Roy has been one of my favorite producers for a while now. They do amazing Gakupo songs so I just recommend listening to any of this songs, really!
Distorted Destiny in particular is one of my favorites. Obviously, the guitar is perfect and I live for it. Those first few seconds grab my attention like the audio form of an arch of lighting! And the guitar solo!?!?! How tf does this guy only have 3k monthly listeners???
I don’t know much about tuning but I think Gakupo sounds great here. I usually hear him at a lower tone, like in Madness of Duke Venomania or Specimen Girl. This is a nice change.
What I’m trying to say is that you should listen to Roy.
Discovered while searching for Spanish songs! Though the lyrics are mainly in English.
For the very beginning, it made me wish I was a good dancer. The mix of Spanish and English allowed me to fully enjoy the lyrics despite my kindergarten level Spanish skills. The title means chocolate bread, yeah? (I am stupid). Anyway, the instrumental on its own is blessed! Appears to be a love song or heartbreak song, both of which I’m usually not a fan of. Still, I think even the most avid of love song haters would find this song to be exceptional.
While AlexTrip Sands isn’t exactly a small producer, seeing that he has a few thousand listeners on Spotify, I don’t believe he’s very mainstream when, imo, he should be! More people should hear this masterpiece and his other works!
On the YouTube upload of the song, the creator described the idea that inspired the work: “This is about "Cyber Apocalypse" when AI is awake.” And the more solemn tune of the song sparks a feeling of distant emotion. It is sung from the perspective of a newly aware AI and how it sees the world and humanity around it.
A random find. I instantly fell in love with the guitar at the beginning, which is what kept me hooked in the first place.
I think Teto is the sole singer but, if not, I wonder how they managed to get Miku (I think) to get to that tone! Even if it is just Teto, I’m still immensely impressed by the tuning! Overall, a lovely song.
I think I’m just a sucker for drums and guitar haha
