So many people will claim to be a system without trauma and then talk about how they were bullied as a small child and their parents were emotionally absent and they were forced into a religion they didn't belive and their parents got divorced and they moved around a lot and they didn't have any friends and they were socially isolated and outcast because of being autistic and—

Its like yall ALL of that can be traumatizing to a young child 😭 you don't need some big evil Abuser Who Abuses that you can point to and say "yes this one event traumatized me" like you don't need one single big bad event that cracked your mind like an egg, all those things add up, all those things upset the nervous system of a small child, all of those things can and do cause cdds.

I spent years and years and years denying my symptoms as being related to a cdd because I believed my trauma "wasn't bad enough" to cause such a "severe disorder." It was only when other systems talked about all the different things besides sexual abuse that cause dissociation did I feel comfortable enough to fight through the shame and go to therapy and get a diagnosis. Since coming to terms with the fact that all the things I mentioned above are traumatic did I start to really critically think about the things I went through as a child and be able to say "hey that wasn't ok and actually fucked me up." It wasn't the end all of what I went through yay repressed memories 🙃 but it got me to go to therapy which was really fucking important. I wish more people that say they are endogenic actually went to therapy to figure out if their symptoms are cdd related or something else because whether you're a system or experiencing delusions or something else you should seek help for it if you can.

Yes, your friend will "change" if they come out as a system to you. They seem like they're changing because they're trying to unmask around you and let their alters be themselves and not hide amnesia and other aspects of the disorder as much.

I understand it can be hard to realize your friend isn't exactly how you thought they were, but they're still you're friend. It's likely you've met their other alters, they just didn't say who they were.

Please support you friend, even if it's seemed like they've changed.

if you just discovered your system, PLEASE do not research did/osdd/pdid/cdds on carrds or just sites which were made by people who are not professionals.

why?

many of these websites may have outdated sources in them or just things about did/osdd/etc which are false. and this misinformation may be harmful to you when researching more.

sites that i recommend when researching about cdds are .org, .edu or .gov sites. as for individual sites, i recommend the mayo clinic, ICD-11, DSM5 and Cleveland clinic. there are more sites that i want to list but im too tired.

every system is different. just because your system is slightly different than what most people think doesn't mean you are "faking".

DID symptoms that people don't talk enough about

The cycle of forgetting and then re-remembering trauma memories

Constant depersonalization and derealization

Feeling as if you're stuck living someone else's life

Failure to plan for the future because nothing feels real + losing time

Thinking a flashback is over when you've actually just dissociated away from it, and having it resume as soon as you stop dissociating

Dissociative stupor/trance

Alexithymia

Identity issues outside of alters

Inability to connect with other people

Being unable to tell if you've healed from a past problem/trauma or if you've just dissociated away from it

Not learning from past mistakes because of amnesia and dissociation

Feeling nothing psychologically despite physical shaking, racing heart, nausea, crying, etc

The extreme disorientation + identity confusion that comes with co-consciousness and co-fronting

Somatic flashbacks

Being triggered by your own DID symptoms because you know the only reason you're experiencing any of this is because of what they did to you
