Literally choked up watching this. Those feds have been kidnapping people, arresting them without cause or their rights read, instilling terror and beating even those who don’t put up resistance. They’ve teargassed mothers at a peaceful protest. 

These protesters are brave. They’re saying that none of that is right. The city does not want these feds here. The people won’t stand for it.

I was born in 2089, one of the first children of the new age.

Technological progress forged onwards on all fronts throughout the 21st century, but discoveries in robotics and computer science exceeded other fields by orders of magnitude.

These were the disciplines which we knew offered the greatest potential.

The first machine to pass the Turing Test did so in 2076. The first to write a best-selling novel did so in 2087.

Of course, there were concerns over whether these new intelligences posed a threat. Laws were struck to control their influence, computer systems were isolated to limit their power.

This is the way my chimp mind works continually when I do not rein it in:

I’m always writing that time and space are one thing called spacetime. If this is true then everything that could possibly happen HAS happened and we are just moving along through it so we can only see the past and the present.

Actually, we can only see the present because our recollection of the past is actually occurring in the present.

Following me so far?

One way to visualize it is through the use of what is known as a Minkowski diagram. I do not understand the math (an understatement) but I do understand the concept in a general way.

Physics says we live in a deterministic universe. The future is set but not to us. Each of us exists for a set period of time. A lifetime. Older people started earlier and younger people start later.

In four-dimensional time we are all “unalive” a term I coined to mean “never alive” which is different from “dead” which means once alive now no longer alive.

Here’s the cool thing though. Almost all of our atoms came from living things. Our flesh is what we eat. We eat things that were once alive. But, how is a carbon atom in my body any different than a carbon atom in a lump of coal? It isn’t. It is exactly the same. It is not alive and never was alive.

Alive isn’t matter. Alive is information. Coded information stored in our DNA. Every cell in our body has the full complement of the genetic material needed to create an entire human being.

Ummm. What were we talking about again?
