The blood-drinking shades would never think to look for her here. Now she just has to survive the rest of her life like this, out of sight and away from the teeth of her enemies.

Hearing the door opened, he turned his head in his palm just enough to see who’d come in, and both eyebrows lifted. That was Trouble with a capital T in physical form, no question whatsoever. A shifter judging from their aura, dressed in sturdy but worn clothing and painted in all manner of scars and bruises in various stages of healing. Carrying a build that came from physical work rather than hours poured into the gym. Moving with a kind of posture and grace that both boasted confidence and warned off anyone looking to approach. They looked like they would break Porter’s back over their knee if he said the wrong thing to him. He hummed, wondering what he’d have to say to get them to blow his back out rather than break it. Dropping into a stool on the far end of the bar, they asked for a beer in a voice that had tingles rushing up his spine. He stared at the rings decorating their fingers, heavy and dark in colour. Likely a steel or titanium. The lights of the bar danced over the rings as they accepted the beer brought to them and left Porter nearly hypnotized. “Staring’s rude,” they spoke before taking a sip of the beer, staring forward the entire time. Rather than being embarrassed over being caught, Porter simply smiled, lifted his newly poured drink and slid from his own stool to close the distance between them. Leaning against the bar just inside of an arm’s length from them, he let his whiskey dangle loosely from his fingers as he gave them an open once over. “I would happily break all the social rules of etiquette if it meant I could continue admiring you,” he admitted, and watched in curiousity as they paused midsip, turning their head just enough to stare at him from the corner of their eye. Their brows lowered, and Porter was fascinated to see the briefest flicker of something very dangerous wash over their face. “Family name,” they stated in a flat voice. Porter pretended for a moment he didn’t understand their request, tilting his head in mock confusion, and a thrill of delight hit him as they set the bottle of beer down with a firm ‘thunk’ and turned on the stool to face him properly. Body leaning forward and head dipping down a bit all while holding his eyes with a gaze that screamed predator. “Tell me your family name. Now.” It took a very loud back and forth in his mind of whether he should provoke this wolf just a bit further and see if he could get some fun out of it, but eventually he simply smiled and tipped his head towards them. “Porter Solaire,” he offered, and watched in growing fascination as every muscle in their body relaxed. They turned away from him again and resumed drinking, as if they intended on ignoring him. “Are you familiar with them?” he asked. “Enough to know I’ve got no beef with you,” they answered, shooting him another sideways look. “…for now, at least.”
