He was staring out the window at the storm, hardly hiding but not moving. His fist was wrapped around the curtain in a hard grip. He seemed planted on the spot, unflinching and non blinking. Hail hit the bakery’s window, pinging off the surfaces outside.
The keys to close the bakery were hanging loosely by his fingers. He was there, but mentally was some place else.
His posture was painfully rigid, standing stiffly on the spot- as if he were made of old iron and not flesh and blood.
He found her in the front of the bakery, right when the storm was normal enough not to bother him but be enough to look for shelter. She caught him right when he was about to close.
His last words were simply “I’ll close up the shop, we’ll wait out the storm here. It’ll be fine- they don’t last long” until he stopped paralyzed by a familiar fury that prevented him from shutting the shade.
“It’s happening again.” He murmured.
She hated storms for as long as she could remember. The booming sound of thunder echoing around them, caused her jump with a squeak. The flash of lightening, blinding her with it’s bright white light behind the shade made her tremble so as another boom of thunder shook everything around her.
“Th-thank you for letting me stay here.” She said, trying to keep her voice calm as she spoke.
Moving further away from the windows as the hail pinged off the glass. Sliding in one of the booths, she went to call for him to join her but saw him standing stock still and heard his murmur.
“What’s happening again? Eek!” She asked with another squeak when a loud boom echoed loudly.
