How time seemed to t r i c k l e when the commanders under his crushing reign insulted his shining intelligence with excuses (this time it was Prorok) . All Zarkon heard were the indignant ravings of a long crippled pest beneath his boot.
‘That will be enough.’ His stark voice halted the caviling of his Commander, standing up out of his throne. The ache in his bones never ended; but no victorious leader such as Zarkon would ever reveal such weaknesses to his lowers. ‘I have heard more than needed of your whining, Commander. Fail me again, and you will face the consequences.’ Eyes burning into the smaller Galra until he scurried out of his sight, he found his gaze narrowing on Thace. ‘Lieutenant. If I might have a word with you about your most recent. . . performance.’ He stepped down, towering above Thace regardless of their even footing and wandered towards the view of open space across the grand throne room. The pause was intended both for the other to follow, and for the sake of the most enjoyable intimidation. What better anxiety to give a soldier than the uncertainty of praise or belittlement?
‘Tell me, Thace, was it your loyalty to the chain of command that held you back from halting the Commander’s stupidity? Or perhaps you desired to allow him to fail… His failure would only be your gain.’
