Keith frowned up at the other Paladin, arms crossed over his chest and brows furrowed. He looked positively defiant; eyes sparking in that way they always when faced with a challenge. He didn’t know what had started this childish little argument in the first place in all honesty, but here they were. And there was Hunk, looking just as defiant and stubborn as Keith leaned right into his personal bubble and -- “Okay. Fine.” Keith closed the distance between them and pressed his lips against the Yellow Paladin’s. It was a little more forceful than he meant it to be -- not that he had really had any forethought to begin with, though.

Keith snorted softly and gently bumped his shoulder against Lance’s, a crooked little smile pulling at his lips. “Oh?” He questioned, glancing at the other boy. He laughed softly, a brow raised. “I’m surprised you even remember that, actually. Didn’t I give you a concussion?”

       Elijah didn’t remember having sat beside her. He recalled returning to his chair. The one he sat beside her bed, listening to her breathing as she slept. This much he knew. It had become his station, his constant position as her protector and confidant. Or perhaps he assumed the roles that Niklaus had refused. In either case, it was hardly fitting for her body to be nestled into his, head curled against his chest as were they lovers.

       For several moments he remained still, his breathing perhaps the only tell of his alertness. Her own remained steady and deep, riding out the tide of dreams that he so envied of her. Finally forcing his eyes from the rise and fall of her shoulders, Elijah turned his head to the door, finding it closed and locked and a shallow sigh of relief leaving him. It was then that he felt her stir.

      “Good morning, ‘Lijah,” she grinned sleepily, her eyes blinking open. He raised a brow, fingers gripping tightly to the arms of his chair, determined not to touch what was long forbidden to him. She offered no reply, only settling onto him once more. “I do not wish to rise. Sleep once more until we absolutely must wake.” It was a line he would have expected from Rebekah, but he was hardly in a position to argue. Instead, he sat sentient, watching until her chest once more rose and fell in a steady rhythm.

     Her head had been heavy on his shoulder for some time. He had no memory of her drinking. Klaus often managed to inebriate his company but so often Elijah found him stealing drinks from Vivianne. As if he had been uncomfortable by the idea of her drinking, unsettled by her cunning and worried that she might start something he might have to finish. Perhaps it was his paranoia, but Elijah found it particularly intriguing that now his bride lay sleeping against him.

      His thoughts wondered but twice before he still himself into motionlessness. The first on the sound of her breathing, the evenness of it. It was unconditionally peaceful and Elijah wondered if he might fall asleep himself. Sleep to the sound of her own sanctum. His body almost lulled at the thought of it, her warm body sleeping against his own, so small and kept.

     At that, his hands steadied, firm in their determination to hold so she might continue to slumber. This wicked angel who haunted his every nightmare, plagued his every thought and kept him awake for an eternity. “To bed with you,” Elijah spoke, hoisting her small body against his chest and carrying her to the chambers she had made her home in. It was in that moment that his mind strayed a second time, the weight of her in his arms so comforting that he wished for nothing more than to envelop it more firmly. “Stay,” came her whisper, and he did, locked beside her in a chair he had more than once commented as being unnervingly uncomfortable.

     It was putrid, the amount of vicious liquid dripping from his fangs. Kol was always wretched and filthy. It was a quality that Elijah had once despised, made him fearful that his own belongings might be tarnished in his wake. There had been tunics and pantaloons by the thousands left in Kol’s wake and tarnished with blood of innocents.

      Funny how it had once bothered him so greatly then and now, as Elijah nursed his meal, he caught his brother staring. It was almost charming, the perverse look in his eye. Elijah let his suckling end, the wrist fall from his lips and the last sip of blood flow freely down his chin. Dark eyes followed the trickle and soon after, a fingertip joined, catching the drop and lifting it to their owner’s mouth.

       He used the blood to coat his lips in a glorious red, Elijah following the finger’s movements with a devotion that could only be brought of brotherly affections. “Red looks well on you,” the words were graveled, bathed in lust and something more that Elijah could not fathom, something he was not prepared to analyze. It was then that he felt Kol’s hand on his knee, eyes darkening as his brother slid into his lap and painted the elder’s lips with his own.
