As soon as Lance had landed on Friday he was greeted by Mrs. Smith with a kind smile and a hug. As much as he already missed Izzie, he could not wait to go see Karissa - to see how much progress she had made and to find out their timeline moving forward.

His mother-in-law had showed him to the room before giving them some space. Looking back, he almost wished she had stayed.

Lance tugged his coat tighter against his body, wandering the streets as he tried to make sense of this.

“Lancelot -- Lance... We need to talk.”

He had thought the time apart was temporary. That Karissa just needed to learn how to live without the use of her legs. He had no idea that she had been testing him.

“I need time.. to find myself. We are much different people then we were all those years ago..”

The paper. She’d already had it there, ready to be signed. A single paper to be signed in front of a notary, the paper that would send the last six years down the drain. Their history, their relationship.. gone with a set of signatures.

“This is what’s best for us. I know Isabella will let you stay with her. New York City is your dream. Anchorage is my reality. I.. have been struggling. I am tired of being jealous. I am tired of not knowing what’s best for you.”

He had wanted to argue that she was the best for him - always. Look at all the help she’d given him over the years, everything she helped him through. How was it possible that she no longer wanted him? After everything...

“Of course I still love you. You will always have a piece of my heart. You will always be Lancelot.. you always have been.”

He had always been Lancelot to her. From the moment he could choose his own name, he’d been Lance. Their families had taken forever to respect it, but Karissa had always been supportive of his choice. 

“You can go for a walk, of course. But... the notary is coming at 3:30. Please.. I need you to sign this with me.”

As he rounded the corner of the block, the hospital coming into view, he wiped angrily at his eyes. Fine. He didn’t need her. He’d go back to New York. He’d get over her and prove her right. He would be just fine without her. ... He had to be.

Lance stood at the door to the house where he was to stay the next few days, a permanent frown etched onto his features. He’d managed to find the place easily enough after his insistence that Izzie not accompany him any further than the subway station stop. He was unhappy with her, had been since the moment she told him he would be staying with Clark the next few days.

He’d repacked the few things he had bothered to unpack, and he knew it had to come across as a surprise that he’d packed literally everything. He was due to fly back to Alaska Thursday morning, though, and he figured he should bring everything just encase his Domme decided to keep him there.

His Domme.. Karissa hardly felt like his Domme anymore. Between how she had been acting and the way that he had been taken care of by Izzie.. he didn’t feel like a Smith anymore. Especially when he was given rules, chores. He had started to feel like maybe Izzie wanted him as much as he wanted her...

He sighed and raised a hand to knock, not wanting to dwell any further on Izzie for the moment. He heard a dog let out a warning bark and he couldn’t help the small smile that graced his features. He remembered meeting that dog before - Bruce, he recalls. A watch dog, apparently.

The door is tugged open and there stands Clark. Lance gives him a short nod in greeting, feeling increasingly awkward about the fact that he had to stay here.

“Hey, Lance. Come on in.” He stepped aside to let the submissive in, watching as Bruce came up to lick Lance’s hand in greeting. “I’ll show you to the guest room. Did Izzie feed you any breakfast?”

“Not hungry.” Lance mumbled as he followed Clark through the house to the guest room. “Is it cool if I just.. hang in this room for the day?”

Clark frowned. He had only met this submissive once before but he knew that this wasn’t the way the man was normally. His tumblr was vibrant, full of life. This submissive before him was.. calm, obviously sad. “Of course, that’s just fine. I will let you know when meals are ready. If you need anything, feel free to tell Sam or I, okay?”

Sam. Right, the other submissive. The one Izzie couldn’t stand. What sort of punishment was this? Ugh. “Sure.” He set his suitcases by the door and flopped onto the bed, closing his eyes as he heard the door shut behind Clark. This was going to suck. He just wanted to go home.
