"a aa ALL of thEm." Their voice is stuttery, like a cd that skips. It's sort of difficult to understand, but that doesn't stop them from chatting away at all. "i'm r r RE alLLy good at candy cr CRuSH though!"

They burst into laughter, louder than the phone speakers should allow. The sound is filled with static and oddly pitch-shifted, even more painful than the sound of their voice.

The response is silence. For a long time, it's silence, save for a very faint, high pitched noise that sounds like a fax machine being tortured on the other side of the world. It gets louder and intensely louder ad the goes silent just before it gets to be too much to listen to.

"hi!" The voice on the other line says, pauses, and then adds, "wh hhho is th th this?"

The other line buzzes, like the noise of an incorrect buzzer on a game show. Loudly. A moment later, someone's talking. Calmly, easily, no issue whatsoever.

"i need you to do something for me." And it sounds almost like it's been recorded and it's being played back. Like whoever is on the other line isn't actually the one talking. "can you do something for me?"

"hewwo?" The voice on the other line bursts in, filled with static and enthusiasm. It's a strange voice, too loud, oddly far away and intense. A short pause. Then, "it's me!"

It's coming from their phone. The laughter is coming from their phone like an annoying ringtone. Followed by loud fart special effects sounds.

Or at the very least, it... they? shouldn't exist here. Not in this place, not in this world at all. They look at him from behind a computer screen, on Earth, smiling a wide, sharp smile. They look at him and press a hand to the screen and it ripples, but they do not push through.

But they could. It seems so certain that they could.

"hey." Their voice comes through the computer's speaker, distorted and pitch shifted. When they laugh, the noise is painfully static filled. "hey, you, come here."

Then fades into static. Some sort of problem at the radio station that declares it plays 80s, 90s, 2k AND today? Perhaps a problem with the radio itself? The lights in the shop go out. The radio kicks back on.

Static again. The lights stay off. The radio intones static endlessly with the occasional BUM BUM interspliced.
