think about it. this is a character whose entire life has been defined by a profound loneliness and feelings of otherness. this is a character who looks at people finding each other and believes that he can never have that kind of connection. because he is Other. he is not like them and will never be like them. there are just things he thinks he can never have and he tells himself he’s okay with that. and only when someone reaches out and understands does he begin to consider otherwise
