patri’s mama and tias are out to get her / wc: 1214
patri is outside, gently kicking a ball back and forth with one of the younger kids at the party when her cousin comes up and taps her shoulder.
“patri if you know what’s good for you, you’d go rescue your girlfriend from the kitchen. the tías have ascended on her,” he nods his head back towards the house. patri cannot see you through the window but she does see her tia maría gesturing grandly, which usually means trouble.
“ok, uh, nene,” she looks down at the little boy she was playing with. “i need to go but damien,” she slaps her hand on her cousin’s shoulder, “will take my place, sí?”
once the boy nods, patri stands up and jogs across the backyard to get to the back door that leads into the kitchen and dining room of her grandmother’s house. she hears several voices, all of them talking fast and over each other so she can’t make out what they are saying. but she doesn’t go in until she hears you begin to laugh really hard. what the hell is going on in there?
they all stop as soon as she’s in the doorway. everyone in the kitchen looks at her and immediately shuts their mouths. like a kid trying to hide a cookie, your smile is barely hidden and you have your hand over your mouth to stop your laughter from coming out.
patri raises an eyebrow at the room. “que pasa?”
her tia maría is the first to speak. “nothing, mi cielo. we were just gossiping like you do with la familia, you know.”
patri knows her tias all love to fill each other in on their neighborhood drama but you look too guilty for it to be just that.
then patri’s mama walks into the kitchen with a box patri knows well. it’s her baby photos.
“mama! what are you doing with that? no, please,” patri tries to swipe the box from her, but not even her athletic skill could beat the speed of a mother on a mission to embarrass her daughter. out of love, of course.
“no, mi cielo. i want to show her the costumes you wore as a child.”
patri runs her hands down her face, trying to mentally undo what her mama is about to do.
“mama, no! what are you doing? trying to kill me with embarrassment?”
patri, again, tries to grab the box but it’s too late. her mama has it open on the counter and is shuffling through all the photos until she gets to the one she wants.
“ah, here it is! patri loved tigers so much as a kid. even before football. look at her!”
patri’s mama hands you the photo and you make sure to both keep it out of patri’s hands and take it all in.
the photo is of patri when she was six. she’s grinning at the camera, some baby teeth already missing in the front. her tiger costume is full body, the head of the tiger being the hood of the costume. it even covers her feet. one of patri’s tias then tells you that she had to wear big boots because none of her other shoes would fit over the thick fabric. it’s one of the cutest things you’ve ever seen. you take a picture of the photo with your phone and then hand the photo back. her mama immediately hands you another one of patri with tiger face paint on and her hair in a high ponytail. she’s holding her hands up and curling her fingers to make paws.
“awww —” you look up at patri, who is standing next to you with her arms crossed over her chest, pouting. you roll your eyes at her sulky face and reach up to softly poke her cheek dimple. you can immediately see her fighting off a smile.
“aw, mi tigre gruñóna,” you coo quietly, just to her. you put a hand on her hip and give her a comforting squeeze. you feel her relax under your touch.
you hand the photo back and her mama finally closes the box and takes it back to where she had hid it before. the tías then all at once began shooing you and patri out of the kitchen and out of their way.
patri takes your hand in hers and leads you back outside. you don’t let her get far, tugging her to a stop. you poke the spot between her eyebrows.
“stop being grouchy. if it helps, i asked to see photos of you.”
patri clicks her tongue at you, disappointed. “why would you do that?”
you smile at her and shrug. “i don’t know. maybe because i wanted to see what my very cute girlfriend looked like when she was a very cute baby?”
you wrap your arms around patri’s waist and bring her closer to you, until her body is directly pressed against yours.
patri rolls her eyes again like she doesn’t care but she has a flustered smile on her face just like you knew she would. she’s a sucker for your hugs and you both know it.
“i guess that’s okay. i was a very cute baby.” she wraps her arms around your neck to hug you tightly back. you run your hand up and down her back.
“muy adorable.” you press a light kiss against her throat. you feel her gulp.
“you better watch it, chica. we can’t leave yet,” patri whispers in your ear.
you giggle and push her away from you. even though she gave the warning, she still doesn’t let go of you easily. first, she kisses your temple several times, each one being more affectionately aggressive than the last. then she kisses both of your cheeks and your nose. you pucker your lips outwards to get her to kiss them but she directly ignores your lips, and pleading kissy noises, and continues to smooch all over your face.
“patri!!! stop it,” you whine out, making her laugh. you feel her lips, still pressed against your skin.
“i’m sorry, mi vida. here.” she presses her lips to your so softly you almost don’t feel it. you go to complain when she kisses you again. deeper and more intentional. your stomach heats up and you let her guide your mouth open with her tongue. you’re vaguely aware of the people around you but everyone else is further into the massive backyard. you almost say fuck it when she moves one of her hands down to the small of your back, the other now firmly holding the nape of your neck when you hear a window open above your head. patri pulls away from you to look up. her face tells you enough.
“chicas! i don’t think you want your mama to see you!” you hear her tia maría sing out the window.
patri looks back down at you in shock. a five-second silence of shared embarrassment passes before you both start to laugh hard. tía maría closes the window again.
“c’mon” patri pulls you away from the house and back towards the area everyone else was playing about.
“that was so embarrassing.” you cover your face with your free hand.
“well, now you know how i felt about the pictures.”
