Maxine’s singing voice claim is Laura Marling.
Single Parent, Episode 8: Dessert & Herb
“So, how’s mom?”
“Th’ fuck should I know?” Dmitri asked, opening the tiny jar of weed and dumping a fourth of a teaspoon’s worth into his palm. “She keeps her distance, she stays in’a fuckin’ lane. She’s not th’ kinna mom who actually talks d’her kids.”
“I just thought she drives you around everywhere,” Maxine said, scratching a curled up Percy; the puppy resided between her legs, fitting in the crisscross of her lap. Dmitri dumped the pot into the bowl and picked up the spoon again, cranked his arm and looked up.
“Doesn’t mean she talks,” Dmitri said, as if it were naive for Maxine to consider their mother doing such a thing. “She just tells me not d’get in trouble or if I’m grounded. Nothin’ else. She doesn’t talk about Dad, she doesn’t talk about anything else, she sometimes makes jokes in response d’the stuff I say--she doesn’t talk about Splinter.”
“Good,” Maxine said, leaning her head against the wall as the dog snored.
“How’s Cream Puff?” Dmitri said a beat before the preheating timer beeped.
“He’s fine. He’s back in Lyon,” she said, voice pouting as Dmitri poured the brownie mix into the tray. “His childhood dog’s dying, so he flew back f’ the weekend d’say goodbye.”
“Fuck,” Dmitri said, “That shit’s sad. Why does bad shit happen d’hot people?” Maxine shrugged.
“I offered’im our dog.”
“Good--whadeva’ it takes d’get’is tight ass ind’this house, Maxi, I swear d’God...”

“Dmitri, sit down an’ eat your breakfast.”
“No thanks. I’m watchin’ my figure f’ my new boyfriend.”
“That’s news.”
“I’ll say. What’s his name, Dmitri?”
“Uh, his name? Uhh... his name is Elvis. Costello.”
“Elvis Costello.”
“That’s funny. I’ve never heard of an Elvis Costello at our sküle.”
“Ev’ryone shut up and eat your breakfast.”
