Happy Black Cat day! I love these made up holidays, today I saw the trending holiday hashtag and it got me thinking about the marvel anti-hero the Black Cat. One of my lifetime goals is to own at least one incredible story from every character in the marvel universe worth reading about. Black cat has had a few stand out adventures but none is so polarizing as The evil that men do. Spider-Man/Black Cat: The Evil That Men Do is a six-issue comic book limited series published by Marvel Comics starring the superhero Spider-Man and his ally, the cat burglar known as the Black Cat. Comicsalliance listed it among its 15 worst comics of the last 15 years you can see their full list here.  I actually loved this book and list it as the best Black Cat tale I have ever read and here is why.

Artwork

The art is this six issue blockbuster is second to none, colorful and vibrant yet understated when it needs to be. Terry Dodson is not my favorite comic book artist by far but this series being drawn solely by him gives him all the responsibility of bringing these characters to life. I love his unique take on facial expressions and very few artist draw the female form as well as Terry. Terry Dodson has been a professional artist since 1993. He has worked on such comic books and characters as Harley Quinn, Spider-Man, Star Wars, Superman, Wonder Woman, the X-Men, Harry Potter, the Defenders, the Avengers.

Controversial story

*Spoiler alert* This a very mature book not meant for anyone underage. The story  features date rape, detailing how victims and their friends would deal with this issue. If you know anything about comics this kind of story sounds like something you would never expect from Marvel and Kevin Smith. For many readers this was jarring and unexpected leaving a bad taste in their mouths. I have read a lot of comics and found the story interesting and refreshing. I highly recommend you check it out and make up your mind for yourself.

Cameos 

Have you ever read a book or seen a movie and wondered where the hell the rest of the heroes or villains are when the main plot is happening? That won’t happen here. One of the best things about The Evil That Men Do is the appropriate amount of cameos from other marvel heroes. Daredevil,Spider-man and Nightcrawler all show up in this book in just the right ways.

Red State, directred by Kevin Smith and starring Michael Parks and John Goodman, is a great horror film.  It is not a horror film in the typical sense of what the genre has to offer(i.e. monsters, ghosts, demons, etc.).  However, what makes this movie so scary is the fact that it takes place in a modern American era, contains real characters, and has a plot that is inspired by past (Branch Dividian raid) and current events (such as the views of Pastor Fred Phelps).  There is also a moral question in the movie when it comes to the government's rules of engagement the definition of (domestic) terrorism. 

The antagonist (or protagonist, depending on what angle you take on this movie) is over zealous preacher, Abin Cooper (Michael Parks), who justifies his bloody ideology by using verses from the Bible.  When the ATF, lead by Special Agent Keenen (John Goodman), responds to the preacher's property a fire fight ensues in the name of the lord/law.

I give this movie a thumbs up and I am confident most people will be EDUTAINED by Red State.

Airlines are not using the network the way they should... Every tweet should be getting a response. @UnitedAirlines is probably the brand that should be most concerned. It drives me insane when someone talks to a brand and they just get ignored. This shouldn't be acceptable, period.
