A / Greenhouse-Effect-Songs Los Angeles “People…..That Won’t Back Down” Hit internet Songs 2007. Surf Videos. // Years after G.e. Parted Ways With Los Angeles Mega-Guitarist Phillip Keegan, they found themselves in May of 1992 as a “Two Piece” with Just Bassist Rick Carmody and Clark Hagins doing everything else in the studio and playing with what ever drummer they could find for Live shows, Most often San Pedro’s Martin Silva or Denmark’s Palle Karlson. “People….That Won’t Back Down” was an idea that developed ‘in the garage’ at 251 Paseo De Gracia in Redondo Beach as Clark Hagins rehashed old Dire Straights Like sounds and mixed that with Heart and David Bowie to create this Drumming dominated Mini-Masterpiece that almost sounds like it could be a track by Sting or even the Who ( Circa 1972 ) and Keith Moon !! “We were actually just a One piece by the summer of 1992 ( Laughs ) ” Says Clark Haggins for Rock City Boston; “Ted ( Bassist Rick Carmody ) had pretty much all but quit the band by then and was more and more committed to a South Bay Punk band called ‘The One Handed Readers’… It had been about one year really since G.e. had been in the studio recording any tracks and this song comes not so on the heels of the March / April 1991 Sessions that brought “White Black Thang” and the cover of the Beatles “Please Please Me” with Engineer Bill Krodel in Redondo Beach Ca and El Segundo. “We again chose Jet City Sound in El Segundo on Franklin Street I think,..that’s where it was” Says Haggins “I chose to work with Billy Krodel because he got this big sound that everybody in the South Bay knew was great and professional,…he recorded some good shit on that Trident ,…in the South Bay,..no doubt about it !!” Today, in the 2000 Millineum, Greenhouse Effect videos grace the internet strongly but it is probably a Kelly Slater or Tom Curren “Surfing Video” where most People have heard G.e. ; “We’ve become very extremely Popular with the surfing world now,…but really we aren’t that kinda band ,…we’re not the Ventures !!!” Says Haggins. On “People” Haggins Proudly lays down every track except for Carmody’s trademark bass as he first recorded the drums merely wearing headphones along with Krodel at Jet City and “Humming the song to himself in his head” before later adding that Mark Knopfler / Pete Townshend inspired wrythm guitar and the Annoying David Bowie Lead Vocals that would make this epic little song famous on the Web !! “We were then a totally changed band from the Phil Keegan days and songs like ‘Coke Snorting’ and “A Current Affair” ,….We became an even more polished and Professional studio outfit,….definitely in the studio is where the magic was happening ,..but we were still great Live,…we were super spectacular if we had Marty Silva rocking the drums back there !!” Live, The three piece band excelled and played dominated three piece shows at Nomads in Los Angeles and the Reacter in Manhattan Beach Ca,…Both of which are on the Net as they demonstrate the Guitar showmanship of Haggins and the Power of Silva’s awesome drumming !! “We were certainly one of the Greatest three piece bands ever out of Los Angeles ,…and three piece is the only way I play Live,…” Says Hagins “It displays the most power and unique showmanship that a band can deliver,….you know yer a good musician and player ,..if you play in a tight three piece,…I never wanted to just be a lead singer and stand there or jump around,..to me, that’s a cheap gig ,…you gotta be holding an instrument and “Playing something” !!!”: Greenhouse Effect never got a record deal and broke up in Late 1992 which is astonishing to people today; “We never came back ,…either !! We never reassembled the Mighty G.e. in Like 1998 or anything,…I thought that the music scene was too weak and I hated the punk and metal scenes of those times and especially from 99′ through 2001,..I couldn’t do it” Says Haggins “I tried to reassemble the band once in 1994 but I couldn’t get Ted to comeback,..bummer” Says Haggins. Today, the Band is primarily known for just one huge song of the cyberspace realm and that track ofcourse is the 1991 thriller “Brandy” which was a song that Haggins says he “always knew” was a Top Ten hit and had the most G.e. Potential; “It doesn’t surprise me that Brandy is such a smash with the People – especially in Europe ,….it’s a Great Song – Period!” Says Haggins. On “Brandy” the false British Accent and power grunge guitars ignite a song so huge and a chorus so memorable that many people don’t realize that the song is by G.e. while Practically everybody knows that it could ‘only’ be by them; “It’s right there with White Black Thang in terms of Great G.e, songwriting and music in general” Says Haggins “But,..I’ve discovered,..we still can’t even get a record deal in 2006 and 2007 ,..even with all that web traffic all over the net (Laughs)” ROCK CITY RECORDS BOSTON MASSACHUSETTS, 2006, Likes: 0 Viewed: source
