Not typically one for bars, she could nevertheless admit that it was the best place to hear the chatter amongst her peers in regards to current academics. Now, mind you, these were not her peers— not in her eyes anyway. No one from another world could necessarily be her peer. Really, no one from her world could be one either. Marisa could not be controlled or talked down to. A young, fresh 20 year old, the world was her oyster– and so were all of the others behind windows she had yet to find.
The golden monkey growled from the shadows as Marisa began to walk into the bar. The strain between them was still fairly fresh, and she felt the tug and pinch and pull as she left him outside. Marisa tried to shake her head, clear it of the pain and woe and longing. No, no, no, she would not allow herself to feel this. They weren’t separating, merely stretching the distance. She heard his soft wail just as the door was closing, and though they were on opposite sides of the wood, she could still urge him to hide and hide well. She would be back soon.
Marisa took one, two, three steps in the bar before nearly running into another woman carrying a few beers.
“Ah, sorry, I wasn’t paying attention,” Marisa apologized. The woman certainly was not much older than she was. She wasn’t even much taller or shorter than Marisa herself. Marisa looked up and down, at the beers she was cradling, and cleared her throat to say, “Would you like some help with that?”
