Alastor played Vox so hard. He played Vox BEAT FOR BEAT. YOU'RE TELLING ME VOX WAS SO PREDICTABLE to him that Alastor RISKED heaven and hell because he KNEW EXACTLY WHAT VOX WAS GOING TO DO.

This was his strategy because, despite how much Vox claims to be constantly changing and improving, his behavior has never changed. And Alastor knew this, he was so confident in that pattern of behavior that he orchestrated a situation where Vox would completely lose it. Alastor KNEW being in close proximity to Vox would make Vox sloppy. He KNEW Vox was going to go all the way and double down as long as he was there to keep goading him on. He KNEW Vox was going to succeed. But he also knew that once he was free of his deal with Rosie and she fixed his staff, he'd be able to fix it. He had such unfaultering confidence in his plan that he allowed and encouraged Vox to go all the way.

Rosie, from what we can assume, is not a sinner and is one of the strongest people in Hell. She doubted that they would be able to stop the machine without Alastor SO MUCH that she made a deal with him to make sure he would. And he knew this would happen, too. He needed Vox to succeed, he needed the stakes to be so suicidally high that Rosie would be unable to refuse.

And what really gets me is that no one, save Rosie, knows. No one knows that the fate of Heaven and Hell was in ALASTOR'S HANDS THE WHOLE TIME. HE DID THIS. HES SO FUCKING EVIL. HE PUPPETEERED THE WHOLE THING.
