oh hello my berzerkley counterpart how can I possibly say no
“Oh, skekLach! Come look at this!” The Scroll keeper crowed gleefully. The Collector gave a thick niff and groaned, getting up and lumbering over.
“What is it?” She croaked. The Scroll keeper passed her the flat canvas he was holding. Her eyes widened and her mouth parted in surprise. It was her.
An old painting from the golden age she somehow had never seen before. How did it slip past her? It must have gotten left behind during a tithe, or sent late or...
“I remember I had this commissioned! I forgot to give it to you.” skekOk chuckled sheepishly. She tossed him a look. Forgot? For hundreds upon hundreds of trine? skekLach’s expression softened. Yeah, that sounds about right.
The painting was washed with flecks of gold, with her in a victorious pose surrounded by riches and treasure. With one hand holding a chalice with a flame above it, and the other graciously accepting the offerings of many gelfling hands handing tithes over from the far ends of the canvas. The background had parted clouds and the Claw mountains of Ha’rar in the distance. Her arduffs flanked by her side, jaws open and frolicking.
skekLach touched the canvas. It was beautiful... But what really got to her was herself of all things. Her jet black hair, her clear mint skin dappled only in battle scars... before they got infected.
“Collector? ...skekLach?” skekOk slunk up next to her, his voice quiet and tentative. She didn’t mean to get misty eyed, and groaned in annoyance at the reflex, wiping her face and giving a frustrated, miserable groan. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing, nothing...” She produced a handkerchief and blew her nose. “I just... used to be so beautiful.”
“Oh, Collector,” skekOk tutted, his wiry hands finding their way to her broad face and guiding it towards his. “You’ll always be beautiful.”
She chuckled as she kissed him.
“Knock it off, Scroll keeper.”
