Their lungs were burning. With each attempt at breath more and more water poured down her throat and flooded her lungs. No matter how desperately she tried to use her arms and legs to swim to the surface it did nothing more than dwindle her fading oxygen even faster.
The pain had just become unbearable by the time a long and slender shape wrapped around her and suddenly she was gasping and coughing. Her shoulders trembled as she clung to the long tail that safely secured her amongst the waves. Her voice was ragged as she coughed and tried to expel the salt water from her lungs. She didn't even register she had been saved at first, her body solely focusing ok trying to recover from nearly drowning. But when he spoke her name she finally looked up.
"Ja-ade....?" It was hard to speak, her lungs were on fire and with each breath she took it was as if her throat was being set on fire. Tears that had unknowingly been filling up in her eyes now finally spill over. “Th-the pot—ion it.... It wore off—” She tried to explain but her breathing was erratic and mind still frazzled from the near death experience. “I-I was so scared...”
