natasha & steve ( @halcyvns )
natasha hadn't planned on going to the bar after work, but she had. and she was glad that she did, she needed the drink. but what she didn't expect was to see steve - she hadn't seen him since before everything had happened and it took her a few minutes of telling herself to speak to him and the last of her drink for her to actually do it. "hi there," she smiled, sitting beside him. "you looked lonely so I thought I'd join you,"

“steve?” after her encounter with wanda, she’d made it her mission to make sure that steve was safe, she had to know that he was okay. “you okay?” she asked, walking up to him, placing a hand on his shoulder.
This wasn’t about Steve. Definitely not. This was Bucky’s birthday. Of course, Steve really, really, really wanted it go well. He got to celebrate his brother’s first birthday since reuniting. That being said, Steve may have gone a little overboard in the kitchen. He made hasselback apples as well as a cake and pie. And got streamers. And balloons. He showed restraint at noisemakers. That was too much, even for him.
Steve set up the desserts in Bucky’s place, putting up the banner he made that said “Happy Birthday, Grandpa!” He was honestly glad that they made it to the point where they could joke about Bucky’s age as much as they joked about Steve’s. They never ignored the fact that time had passed, but it was a different issue to be able to laugh about it.
Finally, Steve set up his present on the coffee table. He got a few chew toys for Bepa and a Brooklyn Dodgers cap. “The kids at the store called it vintage.” Steve said in despair once Bucky opened the gift.
Bucky really wasn’t expecting anything for his birthday. If he was honest, he didn’t want to deal with it all. He assumed that was probably from the small case of depression he seemed to have. So the morning started off his usual way, a good run with Bepa before coming back and eating breakfast. He didn’t know where Natalia was, it made him wonder on exactly who all knew when his birthday was. Of course, the way he found out was through the internet so probably everyone knew.
Maybe if he stayed inside, no one would bother him. Well, no one besides the idiot who lived somewhere above him -- he never actually paid much attention to the numbers in the elevator. Which is how he found the little surprise Steve finished getting ready. And this was something he could handle, it was nothing over the top and it was just them two. He liked that. “You know, it almost looks like you have too much time on your hands.” He teased, his eyes looking at the decorations and desserts again.
Bucky fell silent after that for a moment. Bepa stayed by his side for once, which was strange seeing how training the pup was a job in itself. A smile pulled at his lips as he walked towards Steve, his eyes already seeing the present on the table. He carefully opened it, giving one of the toys to Bepa and setting the cap in his hands. But the silence was quickly over when he heard the tone of Steve’s voice and he couldn’t help but laugh at the poor man. “How dare they. We need to write a strongly worded letter.”
He didn’t know whether to put it on or not and decided at moment to just admire it before putting it safely back into the bag so Bepa wouldn’t try to chew on it. “Thank you.” A mantra he kept wanting to say over and over. He couldn’t express how thankful he was for Steve being his life now and nothing seemed to ever manage to say it all.
TEXT: Hey old man. Your birthday is coming up. Cake or pie? Or neither? Or both?
Text: Surprise me. Think you can handle it, Pops?
Don't blame poor and precious вера.
She’s getting big, you know. So really, it’s the truth.
And clean your room too, while you're at it.
You gotta tell that to вера. She’s the one who messes up the bed.
