Hey, it's coming up on finals in the states, and I know they're are still college students somewhere on here, so just a friendly reminder --

Your instructors are people. You don't have to like them, you don't have to think they're good, but they're not grading machines. They still have to sleep and eat and use the restroom and everything.

I hadn’t heard that in a while. In fact, while the person who said it used to make comments like that all the time, he hadn’t in years. I’ll admit, it threw me off and I was pretty pissed.

Having kids doesn’t make your life more important than mine and it certainly doesn’t make you better. We all make our choices and we live our lives the way we want to. There isn’t a right or wrong way.

I think what gets me fired up about this is there’s always been an insecurity there for me. As I’ve mentioned before, choosing to not have kids has meant years of having to explain it. Years of people telling me I’d change my mind or that I had to have kids. Having to defend something that shouldn’t have to be defended weighs on you and when someone tries to make you feel as if your life isn’t as evolved or is less, yeah, it bothers you.

To be fair, sometimes I think my friends can be a bit envious of the life I lead. I don’t mean they want to be single and in their mid-30’s, but there is an element of freedom they no longer have. If I want to go somewhere, I do it. If I want to sleep in, I do it. My life is still dictated by me and as a result, I am doing all of the things they like they do but can’t.

The point I’m trying to make is that while I get defensive, I forget there are two sides. Yes, those comments are somewhat hurtful but perhaps they aren’t about me at all.

Because at the end of the day, my life is pretty awesome.

when I walked home tonight, okay, I swung by my parents’ house to see if the cats were out. Doyle was. he was so dang excited to see me, he walked with me (read: followed despite my protests) to the corner, then finally laid down, squawking, on the sidewalk. this is his way of going “okay I’m done now.”

he’s a darling little old man, but I have places to be. shouldn’t’ve stopped. u_u
