Tomorrow I take my daughter to her other grandma's, we're meeting halfway. I'm gonna miss the hell out of her while she's gone. But, I'll be kid free for an entire week. What's a girl to do 🤔🤣
I'll see you tomorrow 😉😉 #childfree #nokids #kidfree #notamum #kidfreelife #childless #childlessbychoice #childfreebychoice #childfreelife #childfreelifestyle #childfreeandlovingit #childfreecommunity #unapologeticallychildfree #teamnokids #idontwantkidsthough #neverhavingkids #iamchildfree #childfreeforever #childfreeandhappy #childfreefamily #nokidsallowed (at Nairobi, Kenya) https://www.instagram.com/p/CRasT9Elnlq/?utm_medium=tumblr
I'm the anon who sent in the prompt a few hours ago, Mike or Peter as I miss them. Thank you.
//original ask was for a kid-free fic featuring either Peter or Mike.//
Peter sat in the chair across the room and watched as you, his bride of five years stretched languidly in the early morning light. The sun peeked through the shades highlighting your hair. The sheet moved exposing more of your soft, sun-kissed skin. You were the most beautiful person God had ever put breath into. It was your intelligence, strength, kindness, humbleness that he fell in love along with about a million other qualities.
“You’re doing it again, Peter,” you mumbled keeping your eyes closed.
Peter smiled to himself. “Can’t help it,” he said. “Good morning.”
The sound of a newspaper rustling, a cup being placed back on a saucer told he had been up for a while. Probably watching and waiting for you to wake up so you could have breakfast. “Good morning. It’s vacation. Why are you up so early?” you asked finally opening your eyes when you felt the bed sink when Peter sat down.
“My body is accustomed to getting up early,” he replied.
And being up late, stressed, frustrated and overworked you wanted to add but instead kept it to yourself. Peter leaving the Manhattan DA’s office was the best choice he could ever have made. Manhattan had brought nothing but bad into your lives from the minute you landed. It put a strain on your marriage but you were working on your relationship.
“What’s for breakfast?” you asked sitting up in bed.
Peter chuckled. “Of course that’s the first thing on your mind.”
“Well, not the first thing.” Leaning forward you allowed the sheet to fall away from your body. Slowly you crawled into Peter’s lap wrapping your arms around his neck.
“Hmmm…” he hummed in his throat. “A man could get used to this.”
A couple hours later after being satiated in more ways than one, you and Peter were ready to explore your surroundings. When all the ugliness went down during Peter’s last trial it was decided to get away to a remote area, unplug, destress and regroup.
There wasn’t a timeline for returning to the real world. It was one of the perks of owning your own business with employees you can trust. No other responsibilities awaited your return.
Peter laced his fingers with yours as you leisurely walked around the small coastal town that was close to the seaside home you were staying in. When Peter suggested Maine you were skeptical at first but as soon as you arrived you understood why he picked it for the getaway.
The weather was warm during the day and cool at night which made for good snuggling conditions. And the house Peter found was absolutely stunning. Views of the cove, secluded, huge master bedroom with French doors that opened to a deck, and two fireplaces.
“The proprietor told me about the perfect place to get fresh lobster,” Peter said. He had pulled you into a small shop that sold items made from local artists.
The thought of cooking your own lobster always made you cringe. “I don’t know. Can we get them already cooked?” you asked.
Peter grinned. “I’ll do the cooking ‘em if you make that cherry souffle I like so much.”
“Deal,” you said then stretched up to kiss his cheek. When his phone rang you frowned. It was the first call in days compared to it being attached to his ear when he was working a case.
“Who could be calling me?” Peter pulled the phone from his pocket. Olivia’s name popped on the screen.
“You have got to be kidding me.” Queen Olivia Benson. That woman got under your skin. She was part of the reason Peter has been so unhappy in Manhattan. She was also part of the reason for the problems in your relationship. “Don’t you dare answer that call, Peter,” you threatened.
“Didn’t plan on it.” He ignored the call only to have her ring him up again. Peter looked at you then again the phone. “Peter Stone..” He mouthed ‘sorry’ then stepped away.
You responded by shaking your head and narrowing your eyes. No way were you going to stand around and wait for the conversation to be over. Turning on your heel you made your way back out to the sidewalk and up the street to the winery.
Thirty minutes later Peter walked in. “I’ve been calling you for half an hour.”
“And I’ve been ignoring you for half an hour,” you quipped.
Peter sat on the stool beside you. “What is your problem?”
“Olivia Benson is my problem and the fact that you go running whenever she calls,” you snapped giving him a look just begging him to say you were wrong.
He sighed. She had been a point of contention in your marriage since almost day one. The night that Pam was killed you drove over to his office only to find him in her arms being comforted. And she was the first to know about the rape accusation. “I’m sorry. I know how you feel about her.”
Peter apologized explaining he didn’t want to cause you any stress. And as far as Olivia comforting him you knew it was all innocent but it still bothered you.
“Then why take her call?” you asked.
“I asked her to call me about an open case. She informed me the suspect was found guilty. That’s all. She won’t be calling again. I promise.” He placed his hand over yours. “I love you, Y/N.”
“I love you too, Peter. I’d love you a lot more if you weren’t a daft fool,” you said with a smirk.
“Daft fool?” Peter chuckled. “Well, you could call me worse.”
Your smile fell as a thought crossed your mind. “Do you regret not having children?”
“Regret? No. I’ve thought about it but then I realize I don’t have to wipe anyone’s butt, and I can sleep in on weekends-”
“We can go on a trip at the drop of a hat-” you interrupted.
“Have sex whenever and wherever we want to.” Peter waggled his eyebrows.
You nodded your head. “That’s the best reason. Well that and the butt wiping thing,” you remarked.
Peter chuckled then sighed. “I can’t wait to see what adventures are in store for us.”
“Me either. Now, ya big stud take me to bed or lose me forever,” you said.
“Show me the way honey,” Peter said eagerly with a big grin.
It’s not me, it’s you.
“Spoken like a single person without kids.”
I hadn’t heard that in a while. In fact, while the person who said it used to make comments like that all the time, he hadn’t in years. I’ll admit, it threw me off and I was pretty pissed.
Having kids doesn’t make your life more important than mine and it certainly doesn’t make you better. We all make our choices and we live our lives the way we want to. There isn’t a right or wrong way.
I think what gets me fired up about this is there’s always been an insecurity there for me. As I’ve mentioned before, choosing to not have kids has meant years of having to explain it. Years of people telling me I’d change my mind or that I had to have kids. Having to defend something that shouldn’t have to be defended weighs on you and when someone tries to make you feel as if your life isn’t as evolved or is less, yeah, it bothers you.
To be fair, sometimes I think my friends can be a bit envious of the life I lead. I don’t mean they want to be single and in their mid-30’s, but there is an element of freedom they no longer have. If I want to go somewhere, I do it. If I want to sleep in, I do it. My life is still dictated by me and as a result, I am doing all of the things they like they do but can’t.
The point I’m trying to make is that while I get defensive, I forget there are two sides. Yes, those comments are somewhat hurtful but perhaps they aren’t about me at all.
Because at the end of the day, my life is pretty awesome.
My grandmas are the polar opposite. When they learned (separately) that I don’t want kids
Grandma H: Oh well, its good you know that.
versus
Grandma M: Who else is going to giving me great grand children (ignoring that she has two biological gg children and several step gg children)? You’re being selfish! You’ll change your mind!
Grandma M just found out this past weekend.
So much drama for literally doing nothing.
