another interesting difference between the book and the movie is that grace did have training in the books. in the movie, he argues that he can't go on the mission because he didn't do the trainings with the crew and they tell him that he'll learn quickly in space. in the book, he was there was the whole time. he was testing equipment in zero gravity, he was testing the controls on the eva, he was in the pools, he had the training.

in the movie, it really looked like he wasn't supposed to be on the hail mary. in the book... he had the training

Ok, but seriously. Something weird is definitely going on.

So here are my thoughts: I think that The Smiling Dead will try and fake Mel’s death. At the end of the pilot, all the rotlings saw the smiling dead try and kill the “human”. But it hatched into Ramiel (as we all know). Now, the rotlings know something is up. Why would they try and kill a normal angel instead of the prophesied human? Suspicion is at an all time high for the gang. So, I think in ep 2 they may try and hold off the rotlings for awhile. Then they’ll come up with a plan which involves faking Mel’s death. That’s why there’s this skeleton version of her. The rotlings are stupid, they’ll fall for it easily.

Nick said “not really” after he made the announcement of Mel dying. So, she’s not going to die in a literal sense…. Or maybe I’m just overthinking everything and he was just joking. But hey! That’s just a theory! A Gaslight District theory
