I know that this would hit Chad the hardest. The man adores his family, his niece is one of the most important people in his life, and now he sees this sad little kid whose parents left them to be someone else's problem all because of something that's a part of them, something they couldn't control. He also finds out that Herman went through the EXACT same thing. It would hit Alice pretty hard since her own dad dipped on her too

Also I hc that Herm didn't tell them about his past but it accidentally slips because he got so upset over the fact that the kid is going through the same things that he did and he's so miffed and he accidentally mentions it

And they would be so worried for him because Herm isn't okay

But it gets better because the kid has an entire group of assholes to baby them
