Genuinely think the ban is either because the technique screwed Megumi up (because I think using the Shinjuku showdown as a reason is such a lazy reason and a cop out and also a bit too easy (and hypocritical considering several cursed techniques had something to do with that disaster)). Or Megumi genuinely did something ridiculously insane. He’s obviously memorized as objectively the genius of jujutsu sorcery ( because him apparently being someone who they’d rely on to figure out how to convert a person into a cursed object definitely speaks volumes, as the only sorcerers I think who were once experts on that kind of thing were Sukuna and Kenjaku) and they go out of their way to make his absence felt…it’s on purpose and I genuinely think he probably had to have done something so ridiculously crazy with his the technique that speaks to his genius that they had to make the definitive decision; “Yeah, this technique shall never be used again”
Because no other sorcerer has ever gotten their technique straight up banned like that
Exactlyyyy. i agree with everything you said after it, so im gonna talk about what i personally mean and imagine by "post-shinjuku showdown complications". because interestingly enough i think whether meg ends up just dead or as a curse, the ending of his life is pretty much the same, its just a matter if and how he sticks around.
ive said it recently rather vaguely: a terminal illness caused and affected by cursed energy, cursed technique-induced.
how do i think thats possible? kashimo and his technique. remember, kashimo pre-showdown did all that stuff with just cursed energy. he activated his cursed technique only against sukuna, and the technique itself made his body collapse. thats what did him in.
so lets recount megumis damage. proper.
from 112, his soul breaks. we dont know how literal that is, but id say metaphysically, it at least cracked.
then the bath ❗ and i genuinely cant understate the damage it did.
once upon a time i said its interesting how megs domain expansion and innate domain are different, under the assumption than the post bath meg footage is his innate domain.
i was wrong.
megumis soul got pushed down under his innate domain. that light we see far far above? thats his innate domain.
makora was his last tether to his innate domain and technique. think of it as a literal soul cable. while megumi was shouldering the adaptation process that link to makora was his connection to ten shadows, powering it up and tanking the damage.
5. five. unlimited. fucking. voids. to the soul.
at that point you dont just know and see everything at this moment. you see everything that there ever was and will be and timespace continuum doesnt exist to you. you dont experience time. you are not you. there exists no boundary between you and the world because all you can see is atomic nuclei.
all megumi could feel outside of unlimited void was makora.
and then gojo severed that, too.
and while in the grand scheme of things that was his last i love you to megumi, in that moment it was his last connection to anything.
after that he couldnt even power ten shadows. thats why sukuna lost access to it. because megumi was too far gone to even be used for energy.
after that the absolute ass-beating sukuna took from yuuji specifically. the soul damage as yuuji battered the boundary between sukufushis souls. i dont believe it was just a clean line. i think they were more intertwined than anyone let on, because of how sukuna was leeching off megumis soul.
so, the damage from at least the ripples of what? seven fucking black flashes? straight to the soul???
not to mention, he absorbed fucking tengen. TENGEN.
and All The Possible Complications From EXTRACTING SUKUNA AND TENGEN??? From Megumis Body?????
AND DID I MENTION A DEAD FUCKING MAKORA????
not a single person in the story took that much soul damage. not a single person in the history of jujutsu took that much damage, period.
they all fucking died.
and thats just from the bath. just from a single unlimited void. just from possession. just from becoming one with tengen.
but we see hes "okay". hes lightheaded, and spacey, and paranoid, and irritable, and brain damaged, and soul damaged, and no one knows what to do with him. but hes "okay".
i dont think the signs of proper damage start showing until later in his life. because theres no six eyes around. theres no one who can see cursed energy and theres no one who can see souls.
so if megumis soul had fucking wholes in it? if ten shadows where trying to mend it? same way they do with each totality? and if that started leaking through?
so if no ones around to notice it. and megumi got a huge boost of not just cursed energy, but cursed ambition fueled by grief and spite?
i think megumi reinvented jujutsu as an art. like, genuinely, i believe he did some unimaginable stuff, especially concerning the use of RCT, not just by using it on himself, but on other people and the world.
i just know he was everywhere. doing insane things. because he is an insane person.
and his soul never got over the damage, because no one could heal it, because no one in history has ever survived tanking this much.
and ten shadows did what it does, adapt and sink and rebuild and reform and fill the gaps until so little of megumis soul remained his body started collapsing as well.
and i dont think it was a very painful process. i think it was exhausting. and megumi wouldve pushed through it until he physically couldnt.
its not 'ohh boo taking 5 unlimited voids made him ill' its ten shadows trying to rebuild megumi and his soul from scratch with shadow.
its the process of adaption again. his soul was eroding over time and with each use of his technique it got worse and worse. and i know megumi did great things. but this time ten shadows was adapting to accepting death.
