(masterlist) | (part 5) -> (part 7)
You blinked. It felt like your brain had just blue screened.
“What?” You managed to say.
Chan laughed nervously. “Ah, hi.”
You blinked again before rubbing a hand over your eyes. “Am I still asleep?”
Chan laughed a bit louder this time. “I promise you're not.”
“I-” your brain rebooted again. “Just- how?”
This time he smirked. “Well, you see, I had some time off work and decided to go to a bar. I ended up running into this girl who told me all about her hot friend-”
You groaned exasperatedly and Chris laughed again.
“I've been texting you- Oh my god I told you you were my bias,” you realized.
“I was flattered, to be fair,” Chris said.
You threw your hands up in the air. “You know, I was trying to convince myself you weren't you. Like, you don't own the copyright on being a guy named Chris from Australia who works in music.”
He laughed again.
God his smile was so pretty.
“But then!” You continued. “You said you played Genshin. And you told me you were listening to The Weekend before going onto Bubble and literally recommending a song by The Weekend.”
He huffed sheepishly. “I hadn't quite thought about that.”
You snorted. “This is just…” You trailed off, truly unsure what you should say.
He looked hesitant. “Is it going to be a problem? I understand if it's not what you were expecting, or if…”
“No,” you told him before he could continue. “I mean- yeah I need to process this a bit, but not in a bad way.” You felt a little shy for a moment as you thought of what you wanted to say, but you plowed on anyway. “I've really enjoyed talking to you Chris. To you. I was excited about this date because of you. You also happening to be Mr. Bang Chan himself, I mean, it doesn't really change that.”
He snorted. “Mr. Bang Chan is my dad.”
You immediately laughed. “No it's not!”
“You’re right,” he laughed back.
You stared at him again for a moment and shook your head. “I'm still not fully convinced this isn't somehow faked, even if I can't think of a way for it to be this perfectly faked.”
“Do you want me to hold up a peace sign? Grab a paper with today's date on it?” Chris asked playfully.
“If you have a newspaper lying around, I think I'd be even more shocked,” you countered. “And a peace sign wouldn’t prove anything, you always throw peace signs.”
The two of you laughed again for a moment before Chris licked his lips nervously.
“Ya know, I was worried about how all this would go, too,” he admitted. “Even at first, before I knew you knew who we were for sure. You still could've recognized me and just…”
You nodded understandingly. “Some people don't know how to act when they meet someone they think is ‘bigger’ than them,” you offered.
He nodded, a look of relief crossing his features. “Exactly.” He looked sheepish. “I hadn't thought of it at first, either, but then I realized there was a chance you were a sasaeng- and I'm sorry for thinking that, but I had to check into it just to be sure-”
“No, no,” you cut in. “You're like, uber famous Chris. It'd be ridiculous if you didn't make sure I wasn't some crazy stalker or something.”
He sighed. “Thank you for understanding.”
“It's not weird for you that I'm a fan, is it?” You asked softly.
“Ah, that's something I've thought about a lot,” he admits, voice equally soft. “Not to sound… full of myself I guess? But I just realized there came a time when, if we got big enough, the odds of someone knowing of me just became… too high. Like, what if I passed on the right person just because they recognized my face?”
He ran a hand through his hair. “I think it says a lot about a person, how they act when meeting someone they ‘idolize’ I guess. Whether you still treat them like a human, or just disregard any respect entirely.”
“Not to also sound ‘full of myself’, but I've met a few smaller celebrities before,” you said. “Mainly YouTubers or Twitch streamers, but I just don't understand how anyone can act the way I've seen some of the more disrespectful fans act.” You hummed. “Though I don't personally think people who act like that should be classified as fans.”
“I agree,” Chris replied, nodding. “I don't think true Stays are the ones who ever treat us poorly.”
“We should probably order food if you want any chance of eating before midnight,” you joked.
Chris smiled. “Yeah, you’re probably right.”
The two of you talked through what foods you were thinking about getting before settling on your respective orders.
“Listen,” you said as the gift card payment went through, “I know you’re like, rich, but $75 is a wild amount for a single person’s delivery cost.”
Chris grinned and shrugged. “I didn’t want you to have to skip out on anything.”
“I have like, at least $30 leftover still,” you stressed.
“Then spend it some other time,” Chris winked. “Like I said, no take backs.”
You rolled your eyes playfully. “You’re ridiculous.”
“But in an endearing way, right?” Chris teased.
You fought the blush you felt creeping up on your cheeks. “I think you know the answer to that Christopher.”
He gasped, putting a hand on his chest. “Not the full name!”
You snorted, rolling your eyes playfully.
Chris looked you over then, a smile creeping onto his features. “You know, I haven't really gotten to say it yet, but you look really beautiful.” He rested his chin on top of his hand. “The pictures your friend showed me don't do you justice.”
Holy shit this man.
Your eyes widened slightly, and you couldn't help the blush that immediately flooded your cheeks. “I- um, thank you?” You blinked and tried to recover. “But also, speak for yourself sir.”
Chris tried to keep a cool face, but even through the video call you could see his cheeks pinkening.
“Well,” you continued, still smiling from the compliment, “I don't know about you, but my food isn't going to be here for like, 40 minutes at least. Do we want to start the movie while we wait?”
Chris shrugged. “If you wanna. I also don't mind just chatting with you.”
How dare this man be so smooth.
“I don't wanna be responsible for you not going to bed until like 2am,” you countered.
“Trust me, I do just fine staying up until odd hours on my own,” he said. “At least this time it'd be for a good reason.” He snorted, leaning back a bit. “But also, I chose today for a reason. I have a late start tomorrow, so I don't have to worry about the time as much.” He shrugged. “I didn't want our date to feel rushed, no matter what day you picked.”
“Oh,” you replied softly, “that's very sweet.”
He looked at you fondly. “You're worth the time, Y/N.”
