don't tempt me Bernadette I have too many hobbies as it is
I am itching to embellish the bottom hem of my Norse Greenland (herjolfness) dress, sewn from the patterns taken from the archaeologically excavated garments shown in Medieval Garments Reconstructed. I have the sister book, Woven Into the Earth and it shows how borders on these garments were both tablet woven and sewn.
A couple of pages from Woven Into the Earth:
I am familiar with tablet weaving, but not with this tablet weaving sewing mix.
@zooarchaeologyatdinner, anyone else, do you have any experience with this technique?
I learned that carving wood with a chainsaw is not called whittling - it's called power carving.
I will now be referring to sewing with a machine as power sewing.
I didn't get any good pics from the actual site, since I never do when I'm having a good time, so this is just the selfie I took to make sure everything was on straight. So, here's the current, and totally confused location-wise, Viking-ish kit. SCA has some looser standards, so if I was reenacting proper, I'd strip a lot of this down, I think, but scadian me is a tacky beast. You like my new pampooties? I made them out of buckskin and they have little rolled toggles on the side.
Hey, have you ever wanted a really high quality custom chemise?
My mother in law is retired and helps to support herself with a little Etsy shop. It’s located here!
She makes absolutely stunning period garb for the SCA and her workmanship is stunning.
(She made my beautiful tunic on the left)
She only has those three listings but I believe she’s open to custom historical garb orders. Check it out! She’s great!
I present to you Lady Caterina de Savona's classes on patterning a tunic or gown, which I just used
And then the fun mash-it-up part with layers and accessories!
