I have seen a few sampler quilts with stars that I really liked online so I knew a star quilt would be in my future. Unrelatedly, I had picked up a copy of The Block Book by Judy Martin but I found it has a ton of star patterns. Then, at a quilters’ garage sale last month, I saw a $1 scrap bag of yellow fabrics. That’s serendipity if I’ve ever seen it, so I decided it was time to start my stars.
The first two were directly from the book. The third one is similar to one in the book but it was a 10.25” block and the others were 12” so I decided to tweak it a bit, resize it, and make it a paper pieced pattern. The process would have been far simpler if I had one of those 45 degree rulers, but with a little trigonometry I made it work.
For the layout I have in mind I’ll need about 16 of the 12” stars and 8 or so 6” stars. Right now, I think I will do all of the small stars in that cathedral window style, but we’ll see if I change my mind.

Microsoft Office Suite stitched and designed by CachalotTheUnlikely.
I had an idea for the office White Elephant—and thanks to fednews—I turned it into a office suite of art. I hope y'all enjoy it as well! The patterns were self-drafted using flosscross.com and crosstitch.com caption maker. The aida and floss were from my stash. I used DMC 906, 702, 699, and 890 for the Excel icon. I've hung them up behind me for all to see when my camera is on.
I can't keep knitting the sweater until I ply more of the white yarn. I don't want to fight with plying on my cantankerous rickety wheel, I want to mindlessly knit colorwork. I can't knit until I ply. Surely there's a way around this that involves magic instead of plying.
For almost a year now I've been working on and off on a paper piecing quilt pattern of Astartes helmets. I just think they're neat.
I have given myself quite the challenge, not least of which is that the designs are not consistent across official GW artwork. But this one I think I nailed. It's a Noise Marine Helmet complete with the mohawk, made out of intentionally clashing patterned fabrics. The wall hanging is around 50x100cm, with free motion quilting. It's a gift for the wonderful @tagedeszorns.
The pattern is a bit of mess, but if anyone is intersted: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1tpz0ypDM94BDMUfxoV7qrlkF5vLoJEmJ/view?usp=sharing
I am trying to self draft my first own little project (why in the midst of a heatwave?) and it's just a basic stockinette raglan but oh geez, the math and trying to wrap my head around this logic is intense. I am having a blast, but if anyone has some good resources, I am very happy to receive them.
finished up these bad boys yesterday! self drafted lounge pants from second hand fabric :-)
I made!! pants!!
that side detail is actually a sneaky extra inch of seam allowance on each side, felled down on the outside so that I can widen the pant legs if I gain more weight :]
