"Baji Haunting the Narrative" Statistics
Total wordcount for post: 3.3k
Heavy spoilers for Tokyo Revengers!!
Preliminary Information
Hello! These are my charts of statistics for how many times Baji haunts the narrative after his death in the Valhalla arc. I did spend about a week putting all this information together, so if you saw a mistake with my counting, no you didn’t lmao; and fun fact! The majority of the graphs are a deep blue color because that’s what Baji’s official character image color is. I love him. Anyways, smth smth “that’s ridiculous. Who would spend an entire week reading through Tokyo Revengers just to quantify how many times the other characters talk about Baji?”
I would.
Additionally, for the sake of clarification, I grouped the specific ways that Baji is brought up within the story into seven major categories which are:
Direct references by name
Direct reference by “he / him / you” pronouns
Other direct references (“someone” / “one death” / interrupted reactions, etc.)
Indirect references in which Baji’s presence is implied or is canonically confirmed to influence characters’ actions, their arcs in the future, and alterations of physical appearance (not including instances subject to conjecture like Mikey potentially resembling his dead loved ones in the future, because iirc even though it makes sense, that’s not canonically confirmed)
Singular panels / echo of previous dialogue
Important symbols (eg. the charm, Baji’s bike, etc.)
Full elaborative flashbacks in which he is an active player
However, for one of the charts I also simplified them into three broader categories, just so the information would be more concise to look at, which are:
Conversations: (name, pronoun, other direct references)
Visual references (influence, panel, symbol)
Full Flashbacks
Things to note!!:
Since Baji is included periodically throughout two pretty long multi-chapter flashbacks from Mikey and Shinichirou’s perspectives (one on Mikey’s meta of strength, and Shinichirou’s flashback from the Original Timeline and the origin of the “dark impulse”), for the sake of quantification each time Baji appears will be counted under category five as single panel references, and not as full elaborative flashbacks.
I divided up the arcs according to the Tokyo Revengers wiki, which can be found here: Wow! A cool link!
Also, the reason why this ended up being so long is because I listed all the instances that Baji is brought up in chronological order at the end of the post.
Anyways, without further ado!!
Total times per arc Baji is mentioned after his death (165)
Valhalla arc (ch. 34 - 77; post ch. 62): 72
Black Dragon arc (ch. 78 - 121): 36
Tenjiku arc (ch. 122 - 185): 15
Bonten Future arc (ch. 186 - 206): 15
Final arc (ch. 207 - 278; including Three Deities & Kantou Manji): 27
Specific ways that Baji haunts the narrative throughout the story
Types of mentions per arc (simplified)
Note: seeing the nature of how the characters talk about Baji was also smth that was very interesting because as the story moves on, the way they mention him becomes more casual and fond of his memories. As a whole there’s also a general downward trend where they start bringing him up in conversation less because it displays how the wound of Baji’s death is healing over time, which is a really cool element writing-wise and smth I really loved about the story.

However if y’all want another one of these for Shin you’re gonna have to pay me because I am not doing ts again lmaooo.
I additionally made another post about me behind the scenes tweaking out about counting all ts up to my cfs on instagram bc I thought it was funny.
Thank you for reading!

How was everyone’s day? Personally mine was… well, it certainly wasn’t dull.
I had a run in with the most… fascinating girl today.

It went well!
I like to think I have a “pen pal” now. How exciting :)
