*insert a baby yoda rifling through Alana's knicker drawers* [ from alex *3* ]
It’s not often someone can get through ShinRa’s security, much less floors upon floors worth of SOLDIERs unnoticed. Clearly, however, the small child had somehow managed it. At least... she was sure it was a child. She’d never quite seen a creature such as it (he?) before, but there were many odd things in Gaia. Perhaps he escaped from the Science Department?
Regardless, she’d just emerged from a much-needed shower, towel around her shoulders to keep the water dripping from her still damp hair onto her tank-top. She paused in the doorway that connected the bathroom and bedroom, staring at the small boy as he pawed through boyshorts and bikinis, thongs, and granny panties for those days when everything sucked. Lace and silk and cotton.
“Alright, little man,” finally over her initial shock, she marched right over to her dresser and plucked his small body wrapped in brown cloth easily enough from the drawer. She nearly spat in laughter as his head popped out, one of her thongs tangled around his large ears. “Stop wiggling, I’m trying to help you.”

D O N E - I know I’ve seen your gorgeous characters around so I’m surprised I wasn’t following you already! ♥♥♥♥
“Get. Off. Me.”
Stoic, even in the face of a giggling seven year old, Sherlock Holmes glanced at the girl hugging his leg. Her cream skin and black, wavy hair spoke of her Hawaiian roots, but it was her lips and blue eyes that showed her Holmes genes. Not to mention the way she’d speedily solved the 1,500 piece puzzle that now lay discarded on the floor.
He stood still in the center of his flat on Rathbone Street, staring at the skull on the mantelpiece. The girl continued to giggle and hug his leg tightly, to which he responded by sighing loudly. Closing his eyes, he slipped into a trance-like state, his brow furrowing as his hands flicked at something only he could see. Dates and names flowed in front of him, as if he was sifting through a Rolodex of information.
No, entire file cabinets of details he’d chosen and stored.
“Mummy, Daddy’s in his mind palace again!”
The girl’s voice broke his concentration, but he’d already gotten the information he needed. Reaching down, he took the camera phone the girl handed him ( she’d reached into the pocket of his coat ) and texted a quick message to Detective Inspector Lestrade. Once done, he slipped the phone into the inner pocket of his jacket and shrugged off his coat.
“Daddy, was it the au pair? It was, wasn’t it?”
“What do your deductions tell you? Be sure of your answers or be quiet.”
The girl, whose name was Nalani Willa Catherine Holmes, grinned. She was used to the brash way her father talked, and she often countered it with her snarkiness. “It was the au pair.”
“Very good.” Sherlock rarely bestowed praise, but he was found to give it frequently to the child who was shaping to be the next brilliant mind in the Holmes clan. He finally bent down and pried her off of his leg, scooping her in his arms and promptly plopping her down on the armchair next to his. Sherlock sat down next to her and crossed his legs, his fingertips steepled together.
A black cat zoomed into the room, a piece of sushi in its mouth. As the cat took refuge under the table, Nalani’s mother, Hokulani, appeared from the kitchen. Her hair was tossed up in a messy updo, and her loose shirt was longer than the ratty shorts she wore underneath.
“Nalani, tell your mother the dangers of not using an apron and wearing loose clothes in the kitchen,” he said, throwing his wife significant other partner her a glance. At the same time, he grabbed his laptop and opened it, sifting through the messages he’d gotten on his website.
Nalani began listing the dangers, stopping only when her mother gestured that she go to the kitchen and eat her dinner. The tiny footsteps became muffled as Nalani scooted away, chanting ‘sushi sushi sushi!’ as she went. But footsteps still echoed, and he sighed again.
“No.” He knew what Hokulani had in mind. He also knew that she was going to close his laptop and place it on the armchair their daughter had just vacated. Which she did, straddling his lap and sliding her arms around her neck. Anyone who knew Sherlock Holmes would be surprised to see him in such a domestic ( and romantic ) situation. He hadn’t planned on any of it, but there he was.
“I miss you,” he heard her whisper near his ear, and her fingers ran through the hair on the nape of his neck. “Later?”
Another sigh. He knew she’d just been shopping for new lingerie, had gotten into a slight tussle on the train back home, and thought of cooking pasta before settling on sushi and mashed potatoes. He also knew that she was wearing the new bra and thong she’d bought earlier that day under her clothes. Add to that the fact that Nalani was set to spend the weekend with her paternal grandparents, and it all pointed to a rigorous nightly exercise ahead of him.
Leaning his head back, he allowed the tip of his nose to brush against her lips. “Just tonight? I thought you could handle more than that.”
Before she could retort, he lifted her bodily off of him, set her down on the floor, and headed into the kitchen.
