Carina be like, romance with former high school bully is a popular trope but I want to do something different. Something revolutionary like a love triangle that involves best friends.
Summary: Bridget has been working late while James is away. A little drabble about him coming home.
Author’s Note - this is a short scene that took me way too long to write. It’s been busy in my life but I miss writing so much! I’ll always love James and Bridget too - even if I don’t have as much time to play Choices or write as I’d like. Special shout out and thanks to my tribe: @mrswalkerwrites @angstymarshmallow and @justfanficticious who encourage me and keep me going. So thankful for each of y’all! Love you ladies! <3

Bridget tightened the belt around her waist that cinched her coat closer to her body. The cold night air was making her bones ache. Winter-y weather had just begun to settle upon the city and the first snowfall of the season was imminent. Her spine quivered a little as she picked up her pace. The echo of her heels on the cement floor of the hallway sent shivers up her spine. Shew as walking alone and it was late. She was tired and couldn’t wait to get home.
Her neck was sore and she rolled her head around in a circle as she approached the door to the apartment she shared with James. She knew he’d be incredibly upset if he knew how late she had been working the past few nights. Or, that she walked home a few blocks instead of calling a cab late at night.
He had been gone for almost a week attending a “high fallutin’” (as she called it) conference with some of his authors from the publishing firm. In her mind ’s eye, she could imagine him hob-knobbing with important people, while wining and dining potential writers who could join his team. She was so proud of James and how hard he worked. He had been promoted fairly quickly and seemed to have a newfound confidence about his career. He shared with her recently that he felt as though he had finally found something that combined his love for writing with his desire to produce meaningful work with extraordinary people. She smiled wistfully thinking of him while she turned the key and opened the door.
Immediately, as the door opened, the fragrance of her favorite candle enveloped her senses. Without thinking, she began to panic. Did I leave one burning all day? Oh my God!
She continued to walk through the entryway of the apartment into the living room. Her eyes took in the scene before her and her breath caught in her throat as her mind continued to race. She could feel her heartbeat in her ears and the palms of her hands while her gaze fell across the open floorplan of the kitchen that led into the living room, then into a small hallway where the guest room and bath were. Several candles were lit all over the apartment, and she was startled.
Glancing nervously at the hooks on the wall by the door, she noticed James’ jacket and shoes. A thrill shook her from head to toe as she raced into the kitchen calling out his name. When she realized he wasn’t in there, she quickly turned on her heel and lightly jogged to her bedroom.
“Ja—“ she stopped in her tracks as she walked through the doorway to their room. Gasping slightly, and covering her mouth as to not make a loud noise, she bit her lip and inhaled sharply at the sight before her.
It was impossible to tell how long he had been there, but laying on the bed was James, completely asleep and dead to the world. He was still clothed in his crisp white button down and dark gray suit pants. His suit jacket was at the end of the bed, where he had most likely thrown it. A new spiral bound manuscript was laying on the nightstand, his notes in red scrawled all over it. Lights were on in the adjoining bathroom where she could see more candles near the bathtub.
What in the world?! She asked herself as she quietly moved closer to him. With a devilish grin, she quietly sat down beside him and slowly kissed him while letting one hand rest on his chest.
“I fell asleep.” James mumbled, not opening his eyes. “What time is it?”
“Does it matter?” Bridget whispered, leaning in to kiss him again. James hand brushed her upper thigh under the coat she still wore and her pencil skirt.
“I guess not...” He sighed, wrapping his arms around her. “I got home early and wanted to surprise you.” He whispered, nuzzling her neck, moving his lips just below her ear. He sat up partly and brought her closer to him, pulling her tightly into his arms as he continued to kiss her.
She closed her eyes and cherished the feeling of his skin on hers. She realized in an instant that she missed him more than she ever thought she could. Savoring this moment and not wanting it to end, she gently pushed him back down upon the bed and straddled his hips.
“I missed you.” Bridget whispered, locking eyes with him as his hands rested on her hips.
“I missed you too, love.” James replied. “I drew us a bath, but I didn’t know you’d be home so late…the water must be cold by now…” He trailed off. “I’d be happy to start a new one.”
When Bridget didn’t respond right away, he stared longingly into her eyes and traced his index finger along the curve of her face. He gently brought her lips to his and kissed her softly.
“There’s no need for a bath, dear.” Bridget whispered breathlessly from just one kiss.
“I can think of plenty of other ways to stay warm tonight.”
Uh. Should I say I was being sarcastic as always? Nope. I'd be lying if I said I know what happened, so I can’t be sure. Then, I can’t explain why I wrote this
Anyway. I know I’m a bastard and all of that, I admit it. I’m proud of it. But I do my best to be worse with people I know AND people who do their best to get rid of me.
I DON’T know you, guys. In summary, If I do something that bothers you, people, you just have to tell me(?). I won’t change the way I am because I like to be a jerk more than the Jerkyll (I have my reasons), but we can reach an agreement. Is that so hard?
As you can see in almost all my tags, I'm full of sarcasm. If I don’t agree with something, I write a long argument of my opinions, I don’t put a simple "this is stupid because I say it". No, that IS stupid.
Although, if you want to block this blog anyway, you are free to do it. It's not like I'll cry in a corner or something.
