while he had (evidently) left it undisclosed, a considerable amount of will’s expectations and assurance revolved around edie. it wasn’t uncommon, of course, but it had certainly not been that way before evelynn’s passing. the prospects were special because of the last mission’s outcome too. sure, the mission had been ultimately completed, but he didn’t want to begin forming a streak after that.

    “how are you feeling for today?”

will didn’t know how to reach out to zia given how their last conversation had gone. evidently, he felt riddled with embarrassment and shame; it was also regrettable that they’d be running on yet another tight schedule for this mission, and that they’d be taking care of different zones throughout.

  but for now, he wanted to make use of whichever opportunity he could cram in before they left. 

   “hey,” he greeted, already feeling as though he’d fallen victim to poor word choice. “i just... i know it’s not great timing, but i just wanted to say i’m sorry about what happened back in manhattan.”

the man let out a soft sigh upon peering around the corner of a row of containers. by now, he’d eased into the gusts of cold air laced with the scent of old metal and sea salt. perhaps this was bound to become repetitive, but for a short moment, will appreciated getting to somewhat catch a break by having been assigned to this kind of civilian duty before they had to face the more demanding part. 

     “this hall’s empty,” he called out to laura, over to where she stood. “anything there?”
