9: Does your character dream or are their nights filled with an empty blackness? Describe a dream they’ve had or a night they couldn’t sleep and what they did to preoccupy their time.

before   becoming   finding   the   death   note   ,      light   had   basically   normal   dreams   -      things   like   flying   or   falling   or   forgetting   to   put   on   clothes    before   going   to   school   .      he   rarely   had   dreamless   nights   ,      unless   he   was   overly   tired   (   like   if   he   pulled   an   all -  nighter   helping   the   police   with   a   case   &.   still   had   to   finish   his   work   for   &.   go   to   school   in   the   morning   .   )

after   finding   the   death   note   ,      however   ,      his   dreams   took   a  dark   turn   .      the   more   he   killed   ,       the   worse   they   got   .     before   L ‘  s   death   ,      most   were   of   himself   as   a   god   seated   on   a   throne   of   human   skulls   ,      millions   of   faceless   people   coming   to   kneel   at   his   feet   .   these   were   his   favorite   dreams   &.   often   left   him   with   a   crooked   sort   of   smile  as   he   slept   .

during   the   yotsuba   arc   ,      light   started   having   dreams   of   himself   as  a   monstrous   version   of   kira   armed   with   a   scythe   instead   of   a  pen   ,      swooping   from   the   sky   to   steal   the   souls   of   those   deemed   sinners   .      while   these   were   rare   ,      they   left   him   uneasy   upon   waking   .     because   there    was   no   way   to   prove   that   he   was   not   once   kira   .

 however   ,      as   things   stopped   going   his   way   ,      the   dreams   worsened   .      the   faceless   people   started   climbing   his   throne   with   their   broken   ,      bloody   fingers   &.   clawing   at   his   clothes   &.   his   skin   to   draw   him   down   to   their   own   level   of   hell   .      even   worse   still   ,      he   started   to   dream   of  a   shinigami -  esque   monster   looking   over   his   shoulder   ,      scythe   in   one   hand   ,      note   in   the   other   waiting   for   the   day   he   could   have   light ‘  s   own   life   .      surprisingly   ,     this   dream   monster   did   not    resemble   ryuk   .      it   looked   more   like   a   grotesque   version   of   L   with   over -  sized   eyes   &.   lips   &.    a   tongue   that   lolled   from   the   creature ‘  s   mouth   .      in   his   worst   nightmares   ,      the   creature   devoured   him   alive   .

on   nights   when   light   cannot   sleep   ,      he   often   practices   meditation   or   performs   some   meaningless   task   like   cleaning   until   he   gets   over   whatever   thought   was   keeping   him   awake   .      when   he   is   handcuffed   to   L   ,      he   either   collapses   from   exhaustion   or   imagines   patterns   in   the   ceiling   paint   until   sleep   takes   him   .   

28: Are they afraid of death? Do they have any regrets?

light   does   fear   death   ,      though   not   out   of   some   belief   in   a   higher   power   or   a   realm   of   hell   .      he   is   afraid   of   not   existing   ,      of   being   forgotten   .      he   is   afraid   of   vanishing   into   the   unknown   ,      and   what   that   will   mean   for   him   .

five:     cleanliness is next to godliness, at least in light’s opinion. he is obsessively clean. even when he’s pretending to be ‘normal’ he knows the location of every piece of dirt or stray chip crumb. while he doesn’t feel compelled to clean, he does prefer cleanliness. perfection is exceedingly important to light, it always has been and always will be. even when he appears “messy” it’s perfectly staged. he thinks through every detail about his appearance. when light really accepts his role as kira, he starts spending less time thinking about his appearance, especially when L’s investigation starts putting real pressure on him.seventeen:    light always has an idea in his head of how he wants to look at any given time and chooses his outfit accordingly. he knows every item of clothing he owns and whether it is dirty, clean or being washed. he doesn’t spend much time getting dressed as a result, although he always makes sure his clothing is wrinkle free and laying perfectly before leaving the house. nineteen:     before becoming kira, light generally thinks about people, or rather the human condition. it’s how he first noticed that he was different - in his mind better - than everyone else he knew. he notices that ‘normal people’ don’t think the way he does or notice things the way he does. it’s almost like he’s a completely different species than the rest of humanity. (in fact, once he meets L, he rather considers L to be the same type of person as him.)

once he accepts the role of kira, he still thinks about the human condition, at first, but as the investigation closes in, he spends more nights thinking about how to stay ahead of those who seek to end his ‘reign’.
